< Exodus 25 >

1 Yahweh said to Moses/me, “There [are many things that I want] you to tell to the Israeli people.
And the Lord spak to Moises, and seide, Speke thou to the sones of Israel,
2 Tell them that they must give offerings/gifts to me. Receive from the people every offering/gift that they want to give to me.
that thei take to me the firste fruytis; of ech man that offrith wilfuli, ye schulen take tho.
3 These are the things that they may offer/give: Gold, silver, bronze,
Forsothe these thingis it ben, whiche ye schulen take, gold, and siluer, and bras, iacynt,
4 blue, purple, and scarlet yarn/wool, fine (linen/white cloth), goats’ hair for making [cloth],
and purpur, and reed silk twies died, and bijs, heeris of geet, and `skynnes of wetheris maad reed,
5 rams’ skins that have been (tanned/dyed red), goatskins, [hard] wood from acacia [trees],
and skynnes of iacynt,
6 olive oil [to burn] in the lamps, spices to [put in] the olive oil for anointing [the priests] and in the sweet-smelling incense,
and trees of Sechym, and oile to liytis to be ordeyned, swete smellynge spiceries in to oynement, and encensis of good odour,
7 [expensive quartz] stones [called] onyx, and other expensive stones to be fastened [to the priest’s vest] and put on the pouches [that are to be fastened to the vest].
onochym stoonys, and gemmes to ourne ephod, and the racional.
8 Tell the people to make a big Sacred Tent for me, so that I can live in it among them.
And thei schulen make a seyntuarie to me, and Y schal dwelle in the myddis of hem, bi al the licnesse of the tabernacle,
9 They must make the Sacred Tent and all the things that will be used inside it according to the plan/model that I will show you.”
which Y schal schewe to thee, and of alle the vessels of ournyng therof.
10 “[Tell the people to] make a [sacred] chest from acacia wood. It is to be (45 in./110 cm.) long, (27 in./66 cm.) wide, and (27 in./66 cm.) high.
And thus ye schulen make it; ioyne ye to gidere an arke of the trees of Sechym, whos lengthe haue twey cubitis and an half, the broodnesse haue a cubit and half, the hiynesse haue `in lijk maner a cubit and half.
11 Cover it with pure gold inside and outside, and put a gold border around the top of it.
And thou schalt ouergilde it with clenneste gold with ynne and with out forth; and thou schalt make a goldun crowne aboue `bi cumpas,
12 [They must] make/cast four rings from gold and fasten them to the legs of the chest. Put two rings on each side of the chest.
and foure goldun cerclis, whiche thou schalt sette bi foure corneris of the arke; twei ceerclis be in o syde, and twei cerclis in the tother side.
13 [They must] make [two] poles from acacia wood, and they must cover them with gold.
Also thou schalt make barris of the trees of Sechym, and thou schalt hile tho with gold,
14 [They must] put the poles into the rings on the sides of the chest, so that the chest can be carried by the poles.
and thou schalt brynge yn bi the cerclis that ben in the sidis of the arke,
15 The poles must always be left in the rings; they must not take the poles out [of the rings].
that it be borun in tho, whiche schulen euere be in the ceerclis, nether schulen ony tyme be drawun out of thoo.
16 Put inside the chest the [two stone slabs that I will give you, on which] I have written my commandments.
And thou schalt putte in to the arke the witnessing, which Y schal yyue to thee.
17 [Tell them to] make a lid for the chest from pure gold. [It will be the place where I will] forgive people’s sins. It [also] is to be (45 in./110 cm.) long and (27 in./66 cm.) wide.
And thou schalt make a propiciatorie of clenneste gold; `that is a table hilinge the arke; the lengthe therof schal holde twei cubitis and an half, the broodnesse schal holde a cubit and half.
18 [Tell them to] hammer [huge lump of] gold into the form of two creatures that have wings.
Also thou schalt make on euer eithir side of `Goddis answeryng place twei cherubyns of gold, and betun out with hamer;
19 One of these is to be put at each end of the chest, but the gold [from which] they [are made] must be joined to the gold from which the lid [is made].
o cherub be in o syde of `Goddis answeryng place, and the tother in the tother side;
20 [Tell them to place the] winged creatures so that their wings touch each other and spread out over the lid.
hele thei euer either side of the propiciatorie, and holde thei forth wyngis, and hile thei `Goddis answeryng place; and biholde thei hem silf to gidere, while the faces ben turned in to the propiciatorie, with which the arke of the Lord schal be hilid,
21 Put inside the chest the stone slabs that I will give you. Then fasten the lid onto the top of the chest.
in which arke thou schalt putte the `witnessyng, which Y schal yyue to thee.
22 I will set times to talk with you there. From above the lid of the chest, between the two winged creatures, I will tell to you all my laws that [you must tell] to the Israeli people.”
Fro thennus Y schal comaunde, and schal speke to thee aboue the propiciatorie, that is, fro the myddis of twei cherubyns, that schulen be on the arke of witnessyng, alle thingis whiche Y schal comaunde `bi thee to the sones of Israel.
23 “[Tell them to] make a table from acacia wood. It is to be (36 in./88 cm.) long, (18 in./66 cm.) wide, and (27 in./66 cm.) high.
Also thou schalt make a boord of the trees of Sechym, hauinge twei cubitis of lengthe, and a cubit in broodnesse, and a cubit and half in hiyenesse.
24 [Tell them to] cover it with pure gold and put a gold border around it.
And thou schalt ouergilde the bord with purest gold, and thou schalt make to it a goldun brynke `bi cumpas;
25 [Tell them to] make a rim all around it, (3 in./7.5 cm.) wide, and put a gold border around the rim.
and `thou schalt make to that brynke a coroun rasid bitwixe foure fyngris hiy, and `thou schalt make on that another lytil goldun coroun.
26 [Tell them to] make/cast four rings from gold and fasten the rings to the four corners of the table, one ring close to each leg [of the table].
And thou schalt make redi foure goldun cerclis, and thou schalt put thoo in foure corners of the same boord, bi alle feet.
27 The rings should be fastened to the table near the rim.
Vndur the coroun schulen be goldun cerclis, that the barris be put thorou tho, and that the boord may be borun.
28 Make two poles from acacia wood and cover them with gold. The poles for carrying the table are to be inserted in the rings.
Thou schalt make tho barris of the trees of Sechym, and thou schalt cumpas with gold to bere the boord.
29 Also [tell them to] make plates, cups, jars, and bowls to be used [when the priests] pour out wine [to offer to me]. They must all be made from pure gold.
And thou schalt make redi vessels of vynegre, and viols, cenceris, and cuppis of pureste gold, in whiche fletynge sacrifices schulen be offrid.
30 On the table, in front of the chest, there must always be the loaves of sacred bread [that the priests have offered] to me.”
And thou schalt sette on the boord looues of proposicioun, in my siyt euere.
31 “[Tell them to] make a lampstand from pure gold. They must hammer [one large lump of] gold to make its base and its shaft. [The branches of the lampstand], the cups for holding the oil, the flower buds and the [flower] petals [that decorate the branches of the lamp, the base, and the shaft are all to be hammered from] one [big] lump of gold.
And thou schalt make a candilstike `betun forth with hamer, of clenneste gold, and thou schalt make the schaft therof, and yerdis, cuppis, and litle rundelis, and lilies comynge forth therof.
32 There are to be six branches on the lampstand, three on each side [of the shaft].
Sixe yerdis schulen go out of the sidis, thre of o side, and thre of the tother.
33 Each of the branches is to have on it three [gold decorations that will look like] almond blossoms. These decorations must also have flower buds and [flower] petals.
Thre cuppis as in the maner of a note bi ech yerde, and litle rundelis to gidere, and a lilie, and in lijk maner thre cuppis at the licnesse of a note in the tother, and litle rundelis togidere, and a lilie; this schal be the werk of sixe yerdis, that schulen be brouyt forth of the schaft.
34 On the [shaft of the] lampstand there are to be four [gold decorations that also look like] almond blossoms, each one with flower buds and petals.
Forsothe in thilke candilstik e schulen be foure cuppis in the maner of a note, and litle rundels and lilies by ech cuppe;
35 On each side, there is to be one [flower] bud beneath each of the branches.
and litle rundelis schulen be vndir twey yerdis bi thre places, whiche yerdis to gidere ben maad sixe, comynge forth of o schaft; and therfor the litle rundelis and yerdis
36 All these buds and branches, along with the shaft, are to be hammered from one large lump of pure gold.
therof schulen be alle betun out with hamer, of clenneste gold.
37 Also [tell them to] make seven small cups [for holding oil. One is to be put on top of the shaft and the others are to be put on top of the branches]. Place these cups so that [when the lamps are lit], the light will shine toward the (front of the lampstand/entrance).
And thou schalt make seuene lanternes, and thou schalt sette tho on the candilstike, that tho schyne euene ayens.
38 [Tell them to] make tongs from pure gold, [to remove the burned wicks] and trays [in which to put the burned wicks].
Also tongis to `do out the snottis, and where tho thingis, that ben snottid out, ben quenchid, be maad of clenneste gold.
39 [Tell them to] use (75 pounds/35 kg.) of pure gold to make the lampstand and the tongs and the trays.
Al the weiyt of the candilstike with alle hise vesselis schal haue a talent of clennest gold.
40 Make sure that they make these things according to the instructions that I am giving you [here] on [this] mountain.”
Biholde thou, and make bi the saumpler, which ys schewide to thee in the hil.
