Deuteronomy 32
1 “Listen to me, [all you who are in the] heavens, and [all you who are on the] earth, listen to what I say [MTY].
"Écoutez, cieux, je vais parler; et que la terre entende les paroles de ma bouche.
2 I wish/desire that my teaching will fall on you like rain drops or be like dew on the ground, and be like a gentle rain on the young plants, like showers on the grass.
Que mon enseignement s’épande comme la pluie, que mon discours distille comme la rosée, comme la bruyante ondée sur les plantes, et comme les gouttes pressées sur le gazon!
3 I will praise Yahweh [MTY]. And [all you people should] tell others that our God is very great.
Car c’est le nom de l’Éternel que je proclame; rendez hommage à notre Dieu!
4 He is like a rock [MET] [under which we are protected]; [everything] that he does is perfect and completely just/fair [DOU]. He always does what he says that he will do; he never does anything that is wrong.
Lui, notre rocher, son œuvre est parfaite, toutes ses voies sont la justice même; Dieu de vérité, jamais inique, constamment équitable et droit.
5 “But [you Israeli people] have been very unfaithful to him; because of your sins, you no longer [deserve to] be his children. You are extremely wicked and deceitful [DOU].
Est-ce lui qui a condamné ses enfants? Non, c’est leur propre indignité, ô race perverse et tortueuse!
6 You foolish and senseless [DOU] people, (is this the way that you should repay Yahweh [for all that he has done for you]?/this is certainly not the way that you should repay Yahweh [for all that he has done for you].) [RHQ] He is your father; he created you [RHQ]; he caused you to become a nation.
Est-ce ainsi que vous payez Dieu de retour, peuple insensé et peu sage? N’Est-il donc pas ton père, ton créateur? N’Est-ce pas lui qui t’a fait et qui t’a organisé?
7 “Think about [what happened] long ago; consider what happened to your ancestors. Ask your parents, and they will inform you; ask the older people, and they will tell you.
Souviens-toi des jours antiques, médite les annales de chaque siècle; interroge ton père, il te l’apprendra, tes vieillards, ils te le diront!
8 When God, who is greater than any other god, long ago divided the people into groups, he assigned to the nations their land. He determined where each people-group should live and (assigned to/chose for) each people-group a god/angel.
Quand le Souverain donna leurs lots aux nations, quand il sépara les enfants d’Adam, il fixa les limites des peuples d’après le nombre des enfants d’Israël.
9 But Yahweh decided that we would be his people; he chose [us, the descendants of] Jacob, to belong to him.
Car ce peuple est la part du Seigneur; Jacob est le lot de son héritage.
10 “He saw [our ancestors] when they were in a desert, wandering in a land (that was desolate/where no people lived). He protected them and took care of them, as every person takes good care of his own eyes. [SIM, IDM]
II le rencontre dans une région déserte, dans les solitudes aux hurlements sauvages; il le protège, il veille sur lui, le garde comme la prunelle de son œil.
11 [Yahweh protected his people] just like an eagle encourages its babies [to fly] and flutters over them [MET], spreading its wings and catching them [if they start to fall].
Ainsi l’aigle veille sur son nid, plane sur ses jeunes aiglons, déploie ses ailes pour les recueillir, les porte sur ses pennes robustes.
12 Yahweh was the only one who led them; no other foreign god helped him.
Seul, l’Éternel le dirige, et nulle puissance étrangère ne le seconde.
13 “[After they entered the land that Yahweh promised to give to them], Yahweh enabled them to rule the hilly areas; they ate the crops that grew in the fields. They found honey in the rocks, and their olive trees [MTY] grew [even] in stony ground.
II l’a fait monter victorieusement sur les hauteurs de la terre et jouir des produits des champs; l’a nourri avec le miel des rochers, avec l’huile de la roche pierreuse,
14 The cows gave them plenty of curds/yogurt, the goats gave them plenty of milk, they had well-fed sheep and cattle, they had very good wheat, and they made delicious wine from their grapes.
avec la crème des vaches, le lait des brebis, les gras agneaux, les béliers de Basan et les boucs, avec la mœlle exquise du froment; et tu buvais le sang vermeil du raisin.
15 “The Israeli people became rich and prosperous, but then they rebelled against God; they abandoned him, the one who created them, the one who powerfully saves them.
Yechouroun, engraissé, regimbe; tu étais trop gras, trop replet, trop bien nourri et il abandonne le Dieu qui l’a créé, et il méprise son rocher tutélaire!
16 So he abandoned them because they started to worship other/strange gods. Because of their worshiping disgusting idols, he became angry.
Ils l’irritent par des cultes étrangers; ils l’outragent par leurs abominations.
17 They offered sacrifices to gods who were [really] demons, gods that their ancestors had never known; they offered sacrifices to gods that they had recently found out about, gods whom your ancestors had never revered.
Ils sacrifient à des démons qui ne sont pas Dieu, à des déités qu’ils ne connaissaient point; déités nouvelles, de fraîche date, que n’avaient pas redoutées vos pères.
18 They forgot [the true] God, the one who protects them [MET], the one who created them and caused them to live.
Et le rocher qui t’engendra, tu le dédaignes, et tu oublies le Dieu qui t’a fait naître.
19 “When Yahweh saw that [they had abandoned him], he became angry, so he rejected [the Israeli people, who are like] his sons and daughters.
A cette vue, le Seigneur s’est indigné; ainsi outragé par ses fils, par ses filles,
20 He said, ‘They are very wicked/stubborn people, very unfaithful; so I will no longer help them, and then I will watch and see what happens to them.
il a dit: Je veux leur dérober ma face, je verrai ce que sera leur avenir; car c’est une race aux voies obliques, des enfants sans loyauté.
21 They made me very angry because of their worshiping idols, which are not really gods; they have caused me to be [jealous [MET] because I want them to worship only me]. So now, in order to cause them to become jealous, I will send [to attack them an army of] a nation of worthless and foolish people.
Eux m’ont irrité par des dieux nuls, m’ont contristé par leurs vaines idoles; et moi je les irriterai par un peuple nul, je les contristerai par une nation indigne.
22 I will be very angry, and I will destroy them like a fire that will burn on the earth and all the way down to the place where dead people are [MET]; that fire will destroy the earth and everything that grows on it, and it will even burn what is down under the mountains. (Sheol h7585)
Oui, un feu s’est allumé dans ma colère, dévorant jusqu’aux profondeurs de l’abîme; il a consumé la terre et ses productions, embrasé les fondements des montagnes. (Sheol h7585)
23 I will cause them to experience many disasters; [they will feel as though] [MET] I am shooting all my arrows at them.
J’Entasserai sur eux tous les malheurs; contre eux j’épuiserai mes flèches.
24 They will die because of being hungry and because of having hot fevers and because of terrible diseases; I will send wild animals to attack [MTY] them, and poisonous snakes to bite [MTY] them.
Exténués par la famine, dévorés par la fièvre et des pestes meurtrières, j’exciterai contre eux la dent des carnassiers, et le venin brûlant des reptiles.
25 Outside [their houses, their enemies] will kill them [MTY] with swords, and in their homes, [their enemies will cause] them to be terrified. Their enemies will kill young men and young women, and they will kill infants and old people with gray hair.
Au dehors, l’épée fera des victimes, au dedans, ce sera la terreur: adolescent et jeune vierge, nourrisson et vieillard.
26 I wanted to scatter the Israeli people to distant countries in order that no one would ever remember them.
J’Aurais résolu de les réduire à néant, d’effacer leur souvenir de l’humanité,
27 But [if I did that], their enemies would wrongly boast that they were the ones who had [gotten rid of my people]; they would say, “We [SYN] are the ones who defeated them; it was not Yahweh who has done all these things.”’
Si je ne craignais le dire insultant de l’ennemi et l’aveuglement de leurs persécuteurs, qui s’écrieraient: "C’Est notre puissance qui triomphe, ce n’est pas l’Éternel qui en est la cause."
28 You Israelis are a nation of people who do not have any sense. None of you is wise.
Car c’est une race aux idées fausses; ils sont dépourvus d’intelligence.
29 If you were wise, you would understand [why you would be punished]; you would have realized what was going to happen to you.
S’Ils étaient sages, ils y réfléchiraient; ils seraient frappés de ce qui finit par leur arriver:
30 [You would have realized] why 1,000 [of your soldiers] would be defeated by only one [of the enemy soldiers], and why two of your enemies would chase away 10,000 [Israeli soldiers]. [You would realize that this would happen] only if God, the one who always defended you [MET], had allowed your enemies to defeat you, because he had abandoned you.
"Comment un seul homme pourrait-il en poursuivre mille, deux, mettre en fuite une myriade, si leur protecteur ne les eût vendus, si l’Éternel ne les eût livrés?
31 Your enemies know that their gods are not powerful like Yahweh, our God, [so their gods could not have defeated us Israelis].
Car leur protecteur ne ressemble point au nôtre, et nos ennemis sont une race à part.
32 Your enemies are like [MET] grapevines planted near [the ruins of] Sodom and Gomorrah [cities]; the grapes from those vines are bitter and poisonous;
De fait, leur vigne tient de la vigne de Sodome, et leur terroir, des campagnes de Gomorrhe; leurs raisins sont des baies vénéneuses, ce sont des grappes amères que les leurs.
33 the wine [from those grapes] is like the poison of snakes [DOU].
Leur vin, c’est la bave des serpents, c’est le poison meurtrier des vipères!"
34 [“Yahweh says], ‘I know [RHQ] [what I have planned to do to the Israeli people and to their enemies], and those plans are so secure [that it as though he locked them up] [MET].
Certes, ceci est mon secret; il est scellé dans mes archives.
35 I am the one who will get revenge and pay those enemies back for what they have done [to my people], at the right time for them to be punished [IDM]; they will soon experience disasters, and I will punish/destroy them quickly.’
A moi la vindicte et les représailles, vienne l’heure où leur pied doit glisser; car il approche, le jour de leur catastrophe, et l’avenir accourt sur eux!
36 “But Yahweh will see that you who are truly his people, who (are innocent/have not done things that are wrong), and he will be merciful to you. And he will see that you are helpless, and that there are very few of you, slaves or free people, who are still alive.
Oui, l’Éternel prendra parti pour son peuple, pour ses serviteurs il redeviendra propice, lorsqu’il les verra à bout de forces, sans appui et sans ressources.
37 Then Yahweh will ask his people, ‘Where are the gods that you thought would protect you [MET]?
Alors il dira: "Où sont leurs dieux, ces rocs tutélaires, objets de leur confiance;
38 You gave to those gods the best parts of the animals that you sacrificed, and you poured out wine for them to drink. So, they should begin to help you; they should be the ones who will protect you!
qui consomment la graisse de leurs victimes, s’abreuvent du vin de leurs libations? Qu’ils se lèvent pour vous secourir! Qu’ils soient pour vous une sauvegarde!
39 “But now you will realize that I, only I, am God; there is no other god who is [a real] god. I am the one who can kill people and who can cause people to live; I can wound people, and I can heal people, and there is no one who can prevent me from doing those things.
Reconnaissez maintenant que c’est moi, qui suis Dieu, moi seul, et nul dieu à côté de moi! Que seul je fais mourir et vivre, je blesse et je guéris, et qu’on ne peut rien soustraire à ma puissance.
40 I raise my hand toward heaven and solemnly declare that just as sure as I live forever,
Oui, j’en lève la main au ciel, j’en atteste mon éternelle existence
41 that when I sharpen my sword, as I [SYN] prepare to punish people, I will get revenge on my enemies; I will pay back those who hate me.
Quand j’aiguiserai l’éclair de mon glaive, quand ma main s’armera du châtiment, je prendrai ma revanche sur mes adversaires, je paierai de retour mes ennemis.
42 I will kill all [of my enemies] with a sword; it will be as though I had arrows that will be covered with their blood. I will kill [MTY] all those whom I capture and cut off their leaders’ heads.’
J’Enivrerai de sang mes flèches, et mon glaive se repaîtra de chair, du sang des mourants et des captifs, du crâne des capitaines ennemis!"
43 “You people of all nations, you as well as his people should praise Yahweh, because Yahweh gets revenge on those who kill the people who serve him; and he cleanses his people’s land which has become defiled because of their sins.”
Nations, félicitez son peuple, car Dieu venge le sang de ses serviteurs; il exerce sa vindicte sur ses ennemis, réhabilite et sa terre et son peuple!"
44 Joshua and Moses/I recited the words of that song while the Israeli people were listening.
Moïse vint faire entendre au peuple toutes les paroles de ce cantique, lui avec Hoschéa, fils de Noun.
45 When they/we finished reciting to the Israeli people the words of this song,
Lorsque Moïse eut achevé d’adresser toutes ces paroles à Israël entier,
46 Moses/I said, “Never forget all these commands that I have been giving you today. Teach these laws to your children, in order that they will faithfully obey all of them.
il leur dit: "Prenez à cœur toutes les paroles par lesquelles je vous admoneste en ce jour, et que vous devez recommander à vos enfants pour qu’ils observent avec soin toutes les paroles de cette doctrine.
47 These instructions are very important [LIT]. If [you obey] them, you will live a long time in the land that you are about to cross the Jordan [River] to occupy.”
Car ce n’est pas pour vous chose indifférente, c’est votre existence même! Et c’est par ce moyen seul que vous obtiendrez de longs jours sur cette terre, pour la possession de laquelle vous allez passer le Jourdain."
48 On that same day, Yahweh said to Moses/me,
L’Éternel parla à Moïse, ce même jour, en ces termes:
49 “Go to the Abarim Mountain range [here] in the Moab region, across from Jericho. Climb Nebo Mountain, and look [toward the west] to see Canaan land, the land that I am about to give to the Israeli people.
"Monte sur cette cime des Abarîm, sur le mont Nébo, situé dans le pays de Moab en face de Jéricho, et contemple le pays de Canaan, que je donne aux enfants d’Israël en propriété;
50 You will die on that mountain [EUP, DOU], like your [older] brother Aaron died on Hor Mountain.
puis meurs sur la montagne où tu vas monter, et rejoins tes pères, de même que ton frère Aaron est mort à Hor-la-Montagne et est allé rejoindre ses pères.
51 You will die because both of you disobeyed me in the presence of the Israeli people, when you all were at Meribah Springs near Kadesh [town] in the Zin Desert. You did not honor and respect me in the presence of the Israeli people in the way that I deserve because I am God.
Parce que vous avez été fautifs envers moi au milieu des enfants d’Israël, à l’occasion des eaux de Meriba à Kadêch, dans le désert de Cîn, en ne me sanctifiant pas au milieu des enfants d’Israël.
52 [When you are on that mountain where I told you to go], you will see in the distance in front of you the land that I am about to give to the Israeli people, but you will not enter it.”
Ce n’est qu’à distance que tu verras le pays: mais tu n’y entreras point, dans ce pays que je donne aux enfants d’Israël."
