Deuteronomy 31
1 When Moses/I finished saying all that to the Israeli people,
Moïse adressa encore ces paroles à tout Israël.
2 he/I said to them, “Now I am 120 years old. I am no longer able to go everywhere [that you go] (OR, to be your leader). Furthermore, Yahweh has told me that I will not cross the Jordan [River].
Il leur dit: « Aujourd'hui, je suis âgé de cent vingt ans, je ne puis plus sortir et entrer, et Yahweh m'a dit: Tu ne passeras pas ce Jourdain.
3 But Yahweh our God will go ahead of you. He will [enable you to] destroy the nations that are living there, in order that you can occupy their land. Joshua will be your leader, which is what Yahweh already told me.
C'est Yahweh, ton Dieu, qui passera devant toi; c'est lui qui détruira de devant toi ces nations, et tu les posséderas. Josué sera celui qui passera devant toi, comme Yahweh l'a dit.
4 Yahweh will do to those nations what he did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amor people-group when he destroyed their armies [MTY].
Yahweh les traitera comme il a traité Séhon et Og, roi des Amorrhéens, qu'il a détruits ainsi que leur pays.
5 Yahweh will enable you to conquer those nations, but you must [kill all of the people of those nations, which is] what I have commanded you to do.
Yahweh vous les livrera, et vous les traiterez selon tous les ordres que je vous ai donnés.
6 Be brave and confident. Do not be afraid of those people. [Do not forget that] it is Yahweh our God who will go with you. He will always help [LIT] you and never abandon you.”
Soyez forts et remplis de courage; n'ayez ni crainte ni frayeur devant eux, car c'est Yahweh, ton Dieu, qui marche avec toi; il ne te délaissera point et ne t'abandonnera point. »
7 Then Moses/I summoned Joshua, and while all the Israeli people were listening, he/I said to him, “Be brave and confident. You are the one who will lead these people into the land that Yahweh promised to our ancestors that he would give to them, and you will enable them to occupy it.
Moïse appela Josué et lui dit en présence de tout Israël: « Sois fort et rempli de courage, car c'est toi qui entreras avec ce peuple dans le pays que Yahweh a juré à leurs pères de leur donner, et c'est toi qui le leur feras posséder.
8 It is Yahweh who will go ahead of you. He will be with you. He will always help [LIT] you. He will never abandon you. So do not be afraid or dismayed.”
Car c'est Yahweh qui marchera devant toi, lui qui sera avec toi; il ne te délaissera point et ne t'abandonnera point; sois sans crainte et sans peur. »
9 Moses/I wrote down all these laws [on two scrolls] and gave [one scroll] to the priests, who carried the chest containing the Ten Commandments, and [gave the other scroll] to the Israeli elders.
Moïse écrivit cette loi, et la donna aux prêtres, fils de Lévi, qui portaient l'arche de l'alliance de Yahweh, et à tous les anciens d'Israël.
10 Moses/I told them, “At the end of every seven years, at the time that all debts are canceled, [read this to the people] during the Festival of [Living in Temporary] Shelters.
Et il leur fit ce commandement: « Après chaque septième année, à l'époque de l'année de rémission, à la fête des tabernacles,
11 Read it to all the Israeli people when they gather at the place that Yahweh chooses for them to worship him.
quand tout Israël viendra se présenter devant Yahweh, ton Dieu, dans le lieu qu'il aura choisi, tu liras cette loi devant tout Israël, de sorte qu'ils l'entendent.
12 Gather together everyone—men, women, children, even the foreigners [who are living] in your towns—in order that they may hear [these laws] and learn to revere Yahweh our God, and to faithfully obey everything that is written in these laws.
Assemble le peuple, les hommes, les femmes, les enfants, et l'étranger qui sera dans tes portes, afin qu'ils entendent, et afin qu'ils apprennent à craindre Yahweh, votre Dieu, et qu'ils aient soin de mettre en pratique toutes les paroles de cette loi.
13 [If they do that], your descendants who have never known these laws will hear them and will also learn to revere Yahweh our God, during all the years that they live in the land that you are about to cross the Jordan [River] to occupy.”
Et leurs enfants, qui ne la connaîtront pas, l'entendront et apprendront à craindre Yahweh, votre Dieu, tout le temps que vous vivrez sur la terre vers laquelle vous irez pour la posséder, après avoir passé le Jourdain. »
14 Then Yahweh said to Moses/me, “Listen carefully. You will soon die. Summon Joshua, and you go to the Sacred Tent with him, in order that I may appoint him [to be the new leader].” So Joshua and Moses/I went to the Sacred Tent.
Et Yahweh dit à Moïse: « Voici que le moment est proche où tu vas mourir. Appelle Josué, et présentez-vous dans la tente de réunion, pour que je lui donne mes ordres. » Moïse et Josué allèrent se présenter dans la tente de réunion.
15 There Yahweh appeared to them/us in a pillar of cloud, and that cloud was close to the door of the tent.
Et Yahweh apparut, dans la tente, dans une colonne de nuée, et la colonne de nuée se tint à l'entrée de la tente.
16 Yahweh said to Moses/me, “You will soon die [EUP]. Then these people will become unfaithful [MET] to me. They will abandon me and (break/stop obeying) the agreement that I made with them. They will begin to worship the foreign/pagan gods [that are worshiped by the people] of the land that they will enter.
Et Yahweh dit à Moïse: « Voici, tu vas être couché avec tes pères; et ce peuple se lèvera et se prostituera à des dieux étrangers du pays au milieu duquel il va entrer. Il m'abandonnera et il rompra mon alliance que j'ai conclue avec lui.
17 When that happens, I will become very angry with them. I will abandon them [DOU] and I will no longer help them [IDM], and I will destroy them {they will be destroyed}. Many terrible things will happen to them, with the result that they will say, ‘[We are certain that] [RHQ] these things are happening to us because our God is no longer with us.’
Et ma colère s'enflammera contre lui en ce jour-là; je les abandonnerai et je leur cacherai ma face; on le dévorera; une multitude de maux et d'afflictions fondront sur lui, et il dira en ce jour-là: N'est-ce pas parce que mon Dieu n'est pas au milieu de moi que ces maux ont fondu sur moi?
18 And because of all the evil things that they will have done, and [especially because] they will have started to worship other gods, I will refuse to help [IDM] them.
Et moi je cacherai ma face en ce jour-là, à cause de tout le mal qu'il aura fait, en se tournant vers d'autres dieux.
19 “So, [I am going to give you] a song. Write it [on a scroll] and teach it to the Israeli people and cause them to memorize it. It will be like a witness that accuses them.
Ecrivez donc ce cantique. Enseigne-le aux enfants d'Israël, mets-le dans leur bouche, afin que ce cantique me serve de témoin contre les enfants d'Israël.
20 I am about to take them into a very fertile [IDM] land, a land that I solemnly promised their ancestors that I would give to them. There they will have plenty to eat, with the result that their [stomachs] will [always] be full and they will become fat. But then they will turn to other gods and start to worship them, and they will despise me and (break/stop obeying) the agreement that I made with them.
Car, quand j'aurai fait entrer ce peuple dans la terre que j'ai promise par serment à ses pères, terre où coulent le lait et le miel; qu'il aura mangé et se sera rassasié et engraissé: alors il se tournera vers d'autres dieux, et ils les serviront, ils me mépriseront et il rompra mon alliance.
21 And they will experience many terrible disasters. After that happens, their descendants will never forget this song, and it will be like a witness [that says, ‘Now you know why Yahweh punished your ancestors].’ I will soon take them into the land that I vowed that I would give to them; but now, before I do that, I know what they are thinking [that they will do when they are living there].”
Et quand une multitude de maux et d'afflictions auront fondu sur lui, ce cantique déposera comme témoin contre lui; car il ne sera pas oublié et ne sortira pas de la bouche de ses descendants. Car je connais les dispositions qui l'animent dès aujourd'hui, avant même que je l'aie fait entrer dans le pays que je lui ai promis par serment. »
22 So on the day that [Yahweh gave Moses/me this song], he/I wrote it down, and he/I taught it to the Israeli people.
En ce jour-là, Moïse écrivit ce cantique, et il l'enseigna aux enfants d'Israël.
23 Then Yahweh (appointed/set apart) Joshua and said to him, “Be brave and confident, because you will lead the Israeli people into the land that I vowed that I would give to them. And I will be with you.”
Yahweh donna ses ordres à Josué, fils de Nun, et lui dit: « Sois fort et rempli de courage; car c'est toi qui feras entrer les enfants d'Israël dans le pays que je leur ai promis par serment, et je serai avec toi. »
24 Then Moses/I finished writing on a scroll all the laws that Yahweh had told to him/me.
Lorsque Moïse eut complètement achevé d'écrire dans un livre les paroles de cette loi,
25 Then Moses/I told the descendants of Levi, who were carrying the Sacred Chest that contained the Ten Commandments,
il donna cet ordre aux Lévites qui portaient l'arche de l'alliance de Yahweh:
26 “Take this scroll on which these laws [are written], and place it beside the Sacred Chest that contains the agreement that Yahweh our God made with you, in order that it may remain there to testify [about what Yahweh will do] to the people [if they disobey him].
« Prenez ce livre de la loi et mettez-le à côté de l'arche de l'alliance de Yahweh, votre Dieu, et il sera là comme un témoin contre toi.
27 [I say this] because I know that these people are very stubborn [DOU]. They have rebelled against Yahweh all during the time that I have been [with them], and they will rebel much more after I die!
Car je connais ton esprit rebelle et la raideur de ton cou. Aujourd'hui que je suis encore vivant au milieu de vous, vous avez été rebelles contre Yahweh; combien plus le serez-vous après ma mort? —
28 So gather all the elders of the tribes and your officials, in order that I can tell them the words [of this song], and request all those who are in heaven and on the earth to be witnesses to testify against these people.
Assemblez auprès de moi tous les anciens de vos tribus et vos magistrats; je prononcerai ces paroles à leurs oreilles, et je prendrai à témoin contre eux le ciel et la terre.
29 I say that because I know that after I die, the people will become very wicked. They will turn away from doing everything that I have commanded them to do. And in the future, because of all the evil things that they will do, they will cause Yahweh to become angry with them. And he will cause them to experience disasters.”
Car je sais qu'après ma mort vous vous corromprez certainement, que vous vous détournerez de la voie que je vous ai prescrite, et que le malheur vous atteindra dans la suite des temps, pour avoir fait ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahweh, en l'irritant par l'œuvre de vos mains. »
30 Then, while all the Israeli people listened, Moses/I sang/recited this entire song to them:
