< Deuteronomy 28 >
1 “If you do what Yahweh our God tells you to do and faithfully obey everything that I am today commanding you to do, he will cause you to become greater than any other nation on the earth.
Pea ʻe hoko ʻo pehē, “Kapau te ke tokanga lelei ki he fono ʻa Sihova ko ho ʻOtua, ke tokanga mo fai ʻene ngaahi fekau kotoa pē ʻaia ʻoku ou fekauʻi koe he ʻaho ni, ʻe hiki koe ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua ke ke māʻolunga lahi koe ʻi he ngaahi puleʻanga kotoa pē ʻo māmani:
2 If you obey Yahweh, this is what he will do to bless you:
Pea ʻe hoko kiate koe ʻae ngaahi tāpuaki ni kotoa pē, ʻo fetaʻomi kiate koe, ʻo kapau te ke tokanga ki he leʻo ʻo Sihova ko ho ʻOtua.
3 He will bless everything that you do when you are in the cities and he will bless everything that you do when you are [working] in the fields.
ʻE monūʻia koe ʻi he kolo, pea ʻe monūʻia koe ʻi he ngoue.
4 He will bless you by giving you many children [IDM] and by giving you abundant crops, and plenty of cattle and sheep.
ʻE monūʻia ʻae fua ʻo ho sino, mo e fua ʻo hoʻo ngoue, mo e fua ʻo hoʻo fanga manu, mo hono tupu ʻo hoʻo fanga manu lalahi, mo hoʻo ngaahi fanga sipi.
5 He will bless you by causing you to have good harvests with plenty of grain [MTY] to make bread.
ʻE monūʻia hoʻo kato mo ho feleoko.
6 He will bless you [everywhere]—when you go out [of your houses] and when you come into [your houses].
Te ke monūʻia koe ʻi hoʻo hū mai, pea monūʻia ʻi hoʻo ʻalu kituaʻā.
7 Yahweh will enable you to defeat [the armies of] your enemies; they will attack you from one direction, but they will run away from you in seven/many directions.
ʻE pule ʻE Sihova ke teʻia ʻi ho ʻao ʻa ho ngaahi fili ʻoku tuʻu hake kiate koe: tenau haʻu kiate koe ʻi he hala ʻe taha, pea hola meiate koe ʻi he hala ʻe fitu.
8 Yahweh will bless you [by filling] your barns [with grain], and he will bless all the work that you do; he will bless you in the land that he is giving to you.
ʻE fekau ʻe Sihova ʻene tāpuaki kiate koe ʻi he ngaahi fale faʻoʻanga koloa, pea ʻi he meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku ke ʻai ho nima ki ai; pea te ne tāpuaki koe ʻi he fonua ʻaia ʻoku foaki kiate koe ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua.
9 “If you obey all the commandments that Yahweh our God [has given to you] and if you conduct your lives as he wants you to do, you will continue to be his people, which is what he promised.
ʻE fokotuʻumaʻu koe ʻe Sihova ko e kakai māʻoniʻoni kiate ia, ʻo hangē ko ʻene fuakava kiate koe, ʻo kapau te ke tauhi ʻae ngaahi fekau ʻa Sihova ko ho ʻOtua, ʻo ʻeveʻeva ʻi hono ngaahi hala.
10 “When all the people-groups on the earth will realize that you belong to [MTY] Yahweh, and they will be afraid of you.
Pea ʻe mamata ʻe he kakai kotoa pē ʻo māmani, kuo ui koe ʻi he huafa ʻo Sihova; pea tenau manavahē kiate koe.
11 “And Yahweh will cause you to prosper very much. He will give you many children [IDM], many cattle, and abundant crops in the land that he vowed to our ancestors that he would give to you.
Pea ʻe ngaohi koe ʻe Sihova ke lahi hoʻo lelei, ʻi he ngaahi fua ʻo ho sino, pea ʻi he fua ʻo hoʻo fanga manu lalahi, pea ʻi he ngaahi fua ʻo ho fonua, ʻi he fonua ʻaia naʻe fuakava ai ʻa Sihova ki hoʻo ngaahi tamai ke foaki kiate koe.
12 “When rain is needed, Yahweh will send it from where he stores it in the sky, and he will bless all your work, with the result that you [will be able to] lend money to many other nations, but you will not need to borrow [money from them].
ʻE toʻo kiate koe ʻa Sihova ʻa ʻene koloa lelei, ʻae langi ke foaki mai ʻae ʻuha ki ho fonua ʻi hono faʻahitaʻu totonu, pea ke tāpuaki ʻae ngāue kotoa pē ʻa ho nima: pea te ke nō atu koe ki he ngaahi puleʻanga lahi, ka ʻe ʻikai te ke nō mai.
13 If you faithfully obey all of the commands of Yahweh our God that I am giving you today, Yahweh will cause your nation to be a leader among the nations, not inferior to them; you will always be prosperous and never be needy/poor [IDM].
Pea ʻe ngaohi koe ʻe Sihova ko e ʻulu, ka ʻoku ʻikai ko e hiku; pea te ke māʻolunga pe ʻa koe, kae ʻikai te ke māʻulalo; ʻo kapau te ke tokanga ki he ngaahi fekau ʻa Sihova ko ho ʻOtua, ʻaia ʻoku ou fekau kiate koe he ʻaho ni, ke tokanga ki ai ʻo fai:
14 [Yahweh will do all these things for you] if you do not turn away from [obeying] what I am commanding you today, and if you never worship or serve other gods.
Pea ʻe ʻikai te ke afe mei ha lea ʻe taha ʻaia ʻoku ou fekau kiate koe he ʻaho ni, ki he nima toʻomataʻu, pe ki he toʻohema, ke muimui ʻi ha ngaahi ʻotua kehe ke tauhi ʻakinautolu.
15 But if you do not do what Yahweh our God is telling you to do, and if you do not faithfully obey all his rules and regulations that I am giving to you today, this is what he will do to curse you:
Kae hoko ʻo pehē, “ʻO kapau ʻe ʻikai te ke fanongo ki he leʻo ʻo Sihova ko ho ʻOtua, ke tokanga ʻo fai ki heʻene ngaahi fekau kotoa pē mo ʻene ngaahi tuʻutuʻuni ʻaia ʻoku ou fekau kiate koe he ʻaho ni; ʻe hoko ai ʻae ngaahi malaʻia ni kiate koe ʻo ne fetaʻomi kiate koe:
16 He will curse you when you are in the cities and he will curse you when you are [working] in the fields.
Te ke malaʻia koe ʻi he kolo, pea malaʻia koe ʻi he ngoue.
17 He will curse you by not allowing you to have good harvests with plenty of grain [MTY] to make bread.
Te ke malaʻia koe ʻi hoʻo kato, pea ʻi ho feleoko.
18 He will curse you by giving you only a few children [IDM], by causing you to have poor crops, and by not enabling you to have many cattle and sheep.
ʻE malaʻia ʻae fua ʻo ho sino, mo e fua ʻo ho fonua, mo e tupu ʻo hoʻo fanga manu lalahi, mo e fanga sipi.
19 He will curse you [everywhere]—when you go out [of your houses] and when you come into [your houses].
ʻE malaʻia koe ʻi hoʻo hū mai, pea malaʻia koe ʻoka ke ka ʻalu kituaʻā.
20 If you do evil things and reject Yahweh, he will curse you by causing you to (be confused/not know what to do), and to be frustrated in everything that you do, until [your enemies] quickly and completely destroy you {you will be quickly and completely destroyed}.
ʻE fekau ʻe Sihova kiate koe ʻae malaʻia, mo e mamahi, mo e tautea, ʻi he meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku ke ʻai ho nima ki ai ke fai, ka ke ʻauha koe, pea ke mole ʻo ʻosi vave; ko e meʻa ʻi he kovi ʻo hoʻo ngaahi ngāue, ʻaia kuo ke liʻaki ai au.
21 Yahweh will cause you to experience terrible diseases, until not one of you remains alive in the land that you are about to enter and occupy.
ʻE fakapikimaʻu kiate koe ʻe Sihova ʻae mahaki fakaʻauha, ke ne fakaʻauha ai koe mei he funga ʻoe fonua, ʻaia ʻoku ke ʻalu ki ai ke maʻu.
22 Yahweh will strike/afflict you with diseases that shrivel your bodies, with fever, with inflammation/swelling. It will be extremely hot, and it will not rain. There will be scorching winds, and [Yahweh will cause] your crops to rot. All these things will strike you until you die.
ʻE taaʻi koe ʻe Sihova ʻaki ʻae fakaʻauʻausino, pea mo e mofi, pea mo e hangatāmaki, pea mo e vela lahi ʻaupito, pea mo e heletā, pea mo e mahunu, mo e popo; pea tenau tuli koe ke ke ʻauha ai.
23 There will be no rain [MET], [with the result that] the ground will be [as hard as] iron [MET].
Pea ʻe hoko ʻae langi ʻoku ʻi ʻolunga ʻi ho ʻulu ko e palasa, pea ko e kelekele ʻoku ʻi lalo ʻiate koe ʻe hoko ko e ukamea.
24 Instead of sending rain, Yahweh will send strong winds to blow sand and dust over your land, until your land is ruined.
ʻE ngaohi ʻe Sihova ʻae ʻuha ʻo ho fonua ko e efu mo e efuefu: ʻe ʻalu hifo ia mei langi kiate koe ke ke ʻauha ai.
25 Yahweh will enable your enemies to defeat you; your soldiers will attack your enemies from one direction, but they will run away from your enemies in seven/many directions, and when the people of other nations see what is happening to you, they will say that it is horrible.
ʻE pule ʻe Sihova ke taaʻi koe ʻi he ʻao ʻo ho ngaahi fili: ke ke ʻalu kituaʻā koe ʻi he hala ʻe taha kiate kinautolu, pea te ke hola ʻi he hala ʻe fitu mei honau ʻao: pea ʻe fetuku koe ki he ngaahi puleʻanga kotoa pē ʻo māmani.
26 [You will die], and birds and wild animals will come and eat your corpses, and there will not be anyone to scare/shoo them away.
Pea ʻe hoko ho ʻangaʻanga ko e meʻakai ia ki he fanga puna ʻoe ʻatā, pea ki he fanga manu ʻoe fonua, pea ʻe ʻikai fakaseʻeseʻe ʻakinautolu ʻe ha tokotaha.
27 Yahweh will cause you to have boils on your skin, like he caused the people of Egypt to have [many years ago]. He will cause you to have tumors, open sores, and your skin will itch, and there will be nothing that will cure those diseases.
Pea ʻe taaʻi koe ʻe Sihova ʻaki ʻae pala ʻo ʻIsipite, mo e mahaki kovi, mo e poku, mo e veli, ʻaia ʻoku ʻikai faʻa fakamoʻui koe mei ai.
28 Yahweh will cause [some of] you to become insane; he will cause some of you to become blind, and he will cause [some of] your minds to become confused.
ʻE taaʻi ʻaki koe ʻe Sihova ʻae faha, mo e kui, mo e lilika ʻoe loto:
29 [Because you will not be able to see where you are going], at midday you will (grope/feel your way) around with your hands, like people do in the darkness. You will continually be oppressed and robbed, and no one will help you.
30 Some of you men will be engaged/promised to marry a young woman, but someone else will rape her. You will build houses, but you will never live in them. You will plant grapevines, but you will not eat the grapes; [someone else will eat them].
Te ke poloʻi ho uaifi pea ʻe mohe ia mo e tangata kehe: te ke langa ha fale, ka ʻe ʻikai te ke nofo ki ai: te ke tō ʻae ngoue vaine, ka ʻe ʻikai te ke maʻu hono ngaahi fua.
31 Your enemies will butcher your cattle while you watch them, and you will not get any of the meat to eat. They will drag away your donkeys while you watch them do it, and they will not give them back to you. They will take away your sheep; and no one will help you [rescue them].
ʻE tāmateʻi hoʻo pulu ʻi ho ʻao, ka ʻe ʻikai te ke kai ia: ʻe toʻo ʻo ʻave fakamālohi pe ʻa hoʻo ʻasi mei ho ʻao, pea ʻe ʻikai toe ʻomi kiate koe: ʻe foaki ʻa hoʻo fanga sipi ki ho ngaahi fili, pea ʻe ʻikai ʻiate koe ha tokotaha ke toe maʻu mai ia.
32 While you watch, your sons and daughters will be given to foreigners to become their slaves. Every day you will very sadly watch for your children to return, but (you will watch in vain/they will never return).
Ko ho ngaahi foha mo ho ngaahi ʻofefine ʻe foaki ki he kakai kehe, pea ʻe fakasio ho mata, pea mole ʻi he holi kiate kinautolu ʻi he ʻaho kotoa: pea ʻe ʻikai ha mafai ʻi ho nima.
33 People from a foreign nation will take all the crops that you worked hard to produce, and they will constantly treat you harshly and cruelly [DOU].
Ko e fua ʻo ho fonua, mo hoʻo ngāue kotoa pē, ʻe kai ʻo ʻosi ia ʻe ha puleʻanga ʻaia ʻoku ʻikai te ke ʻiloa; pea ʻe fakamoʻulaloaʻi koe mo taʻomia maʻuaipē.
34 The result will be that all these terrible things that you see/experience will cause you to become insane.
Ko ia te ke faha ai ʻi he mamata ʻe ho mata ʻaia te ke mamata ki ai.
35 Yahweh will cause your legs [to be covered with] painful boils that cannot be healed, and you will have boils from the bottoms of your feet to the tops of your heads.
ʻE taaʻi koe ʻe Sihova ʻi ho tui, pea ʻi ho vaʻe, ʻaki ʻae pala ʻaia ʻe ʻikai faʻa fakamoʻui, mei ho ʻaofi vaʻe ʻo aʻu ki ho tumuʻaki.
36 Yahweh will cause your king and the rest of you to be taken to another country, to a place in which you and your ancestors have never lived before, and there you will worship and serve gods that are made of wood or stone.
ʻE ʻomi koe ʻe Sihova mo e tuʻi ʻaia te ke fakanofo ke pule kiate koe, ki he puleʻanga ʻaia naʻe ʻikai te ke ʻilo ʻe koe, pe ko hoʻo ngaahi tamai; pea te ke tauhi ʻi ai ʻae ngaahi ʻotua kehe, ko e ʻakau mo e maka.
37 When the people-groups in nearby countries see what has happened to you, they will be shocked/horrified; they will make fun [DOU] of you.
Pea te ke hoko koe ko e ofoʻanga, mo e lauʻikoviʻanga, mo e lumaʻanga, ʻi he ngaahi puleʻanga kotoa pē ʻaia ʻe tataki koe ki ai ʻe Sihova.
38 You will plant plenty of seeds in your fields, but you will reap only a small harvest, because locusts will eat the crops.
Te ke fetuku ʻae tenga lahi ki he ngoue, ka ke ʻomi ʻae meʻa siʻi mei ai; koeʻuhi ʻe kai ʻo ʻosi ia ʻe he heʻe.
39 You will plant grapevines and take care of them, but you will not pick any grapes to make wine, because worms will eat the vines.
Te ke tō ʻae ngaahi ngoue vaine, pea ʻauhani ia, ka ʻe ʻikai te ke inu hono uaine, pe tānaki hono fua, koeʻuhi ʻe kai ia ʻe he ʻunufe.
40 Olive trees will grow everywhere in your land, but you will not get any olive oil to rub on your skin because the olives will drop [on the ground before they are ripe].
Te ke maʻu ʻae ʻakau ko e ʻolive ʻi he ngaahi potu fonua kotoa pē, ka ʻe ʻikai te ke pani ʻaki koe ʻae lolo; koeʻuhi ʻe lī hono fua ʻe hoʻo ʻolive.
41 You will have sons and daughters, but they will not stay with you, because they will be captured and taken away.
ʻE tupu ʻiate koe ʻae ngaahi foha mo e ngaahi ʻofefine, ka ʻe ʻikai te ke maʻu ha fiemālie ʻiate kinautolu; he tenau ʻalu ʻo nofo pōpula.
42 Swarms of locusts/insects will eat your crops and [the leaves of] all your trees.
Ko ho ngaahi ʻakau kotoa pē mo e fua ʻo ho fonua ʻe fakaʻosi ia ʻe he heʻe.
43 Foreigners who live in your land will become more and more [powerful], and you will become less and less [powerful].
Ko e muli ʻoku ʻiate koe ʻe hiki māʻolunga lahi ʻiate koe; pea ʻe fakahifo koe ke māʻulalo ʻaupito.
44 They will [have money to] lend to you, but you will not [have any money to] lend to them. They will be superior [IDM] to you, and you will be inferior to them [IDM].
ʻE nō atu ʻe ia kiate koe, pea ʻe ʻikai te ke nō kiate ia: ʻe hoko ko e ʻulu ia pea ko e hiku koe.
45 “You will experience all these disasters, and you will continue to experience them you until you are destroyed, if you do not do what Yahweh your God told you to do, and do not obey all the rules and regulations that he gave to you.
Pea koeʻuhi ko e ngaahi malaʻia ni ʻe hoko kiate koe, tenau tuli koe, pea maʻu koe, kaeʻoua ke ʻauha koe; ko e meʻa ʻi he ʻikai te ke tokanga ki he leʻo ʻo Sihova ko ho ʻOtua, ke tauhi ʻene ngaahi fekau mo ʻene tuʻutuʻuni ʻaia naʻa ne fekauʻi koe:
46 “These disasters will warn [DOU] you and your descendants forever [about what happens to groups who disobey Yahweh].
Pea tenau ʻiate koe, ko e fakaʻilonga, mo e meʻa fakaofo, pea ki ho hako ʻo taʻengata.
47 “Because Yahweh blessed you abundantly in many ways, you should have served him very joyfully [DOU], but you did not do that.
Ko e meʻa ʻi he ʻikai te ke tauhi ʻa Sihova ko ho ʻOtua ʻi he angatonu mo e fiefia ʻoe loto, koeʻuhi ko e mahu meʻa lelei kotoa pē;
48 “Therefore, you will work for the enemies whom Yahweh will send to attack you. You will be hungry and thirsty; you will not have clothes to wear; and you will lack everything else that you need. And Yahweh will cause you to become slaves [MET] and work hard until he gets rid of you.
Ko ia te ke tauhi ai ʻa ho ngaahi fili ʻaia ʻe fekau ʻe Sihova ke tuʻu hake kiate koe, ʻi he fiekaia, mo e fieinu, pea ʻi he telefua, pea ʻi he masiva ʻi he meʻa kotoa pē: pea te ne ʻai ʻae haʻamonga ukamea ki ho kia, koeʻuhi ke ne fakaʻauha koe.
49 “Yahweh will cause an army from very far away [HYP] to attack you, whose soldiers speak a language that you do not know/understand. They will swoop down on you [quickly] like an eagle [SIM] attacks its prey.
ʻE ʻomi ʻe Sihova ʻae puleʻanga kiate koe mei he mamaʻo, mei he ngataʻanga ʻo māmani, ʻo hangē ko e puna ʻae ʻikale; ʻae puleʻanga ko e lea ʻanautolu ʻe ʻikai te ke ʻiloʻi;
50 They will be fierce looking. They will not act mercifully toward anyone, not even young children and old people.
Ko e puleʻanga ʻoku mata mālohi, ʻaia ʻe ʻikai tenau tokanga ki he sino ʻoe motuʻa, pe fakahā ha ʻofa ki he talavou:
51 They will [kill and] eat your livestock, and they will eat your crops, and you will (starve/die because you do not have anything to eat). They will not leave for you any grain or wine or [olive] oil or cattle or sheep; and you will all die [from hunger].
Pea ʻe kai ʻe ia hono tupu ʻo hoʻo fanga manu lahi, mo e fua ʻo ho fonua, ke ʻoua ke ke ʻauha koe: ʻaia foki ʻe ʻikai tenau tuku kiate koe ha uite, pe ha uaine, pe ha lolo, pe ko e tupu ʻo hoʻo fanga manu lalahi, pe ha fanga sipi, kaeʻoua ke ne fakaʻauha koe.
52 Your enemies will surround your towns throughout the land that Yahweh your God is about to give to you, and they will break down the high and strong walls [around your towns], walls which you trusted/thought would protect you.
Pea te ne tauʻi koe ʻi ho ngaahi matapā kotoa pē, ke holoki hifo ʻa ho ngaahi ā māʻolunga mo tali tau, ʻaia ʻoku ke falala ki ai, ʻi ho fonua kotoa pē: pea te ne tauʻi koe ʻi he ngaahi matapā kotoa pē ʻi he potu fonua kotoa pē, ʻaia kuo foaki kiate koe ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua.
53 “When your enemies are surrounding [your towns], you will be extremely hungry, with the result that you will eat the flesh of your own sons and daughters that Yahweh your God has given to you.
Pea te ke kai ʻae fua ʻo ho sino ʻoʻou, ko e kakano ʻo ho ngaahi foha pea mo ho ngaahi ʻofefine, ʻaia kuo foaki kiate koe ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua, ko e meʻa ʻi he tau, pea ʻi he kāpui koe ʻe hoʻo ngaahi fili ʻaia tenau fakamamahiʻi ai koe.
54 When your enemies have surrounded your towns, even the most gentle and sensitive men among you will want food very desperately, with the result that they will [kill their own children and] eat their flesh, because they will not have anything else to eat. They will not even share any of it with their brothers or wives whom they love very much or with any of their children who are still alive.
Ko e tangata ʻiate kimoutolu ʻaia ʻoku vaivai pea mamahi ngofua, ʻe kovi hono mata ki hono tokoua, pea ki he uaifi ʻo hono fatafata, pea ki hono toe ʻo ʻene fānau ʻaia ʻe liʻaki:
56 Even the most gentle and sensitive/kind women among you, who are very refined/rich with the result that they have never had to walk anywhere [HYP], will do the same thing. When your enemies have surrounded your towns, those women will be extremely hungry, with the result that after they give birth to a baby, they will secretly [kill it and] eat its flesh and also eat its afterbirth. And they will not share any of it with their husbands whom they love very much or with any of their other children.
Ko e fefine vaivai mo mamahi ngofua ʻiate kimoutolu, ʻaia naʻe ʻikai meimei tuku hono ʻaofivaʻe ki he kelekele koeʻuhi ko e vaivai mo e mamahi ngofua, ʻe kovi hono mata ki he husepāniti ʻo hono fatafata, pea ki heʻene tama, pea ki heʻene taʻahine,
Pea ki he tamasiʻi ʻoku haʻu ʻi he vahaʻa ʻo hono vaʻe, pea ki heʻene fānau te ne fanauʻi: he te ne kai fakafufū ia ʻi heʻene masiva ʻi he meʻa kotoa pē ʻi he tau mo e fakahonge, ʻaia ʻe fakamamahi ʻaki koe, ʻe ho fili ʻi ho ngaahi matapā.
58 “If you do not faithfully obey all of the laws that I am writing, and if you do not revere Yahweh our glorious God [MTY],
Kapau ʻe ʻikai te ke tokanga ke fai ʻae ngaahi lea kotoa pē ʻoe fono ni ʻaia kuo tohi ʻi he tohi ni, koeʻuhi ke ke manavahē ki he huafa nāunauʻia mo fakamanavahē ni, KO SIHOVA KO HO ʻOTUA;
59 he will [punish you by] causing you and your descendants to experience great afflictions and plagues which will last for many years.
Pehē ʻe toki ngaohi ʻe Sihova hoʻo ngaahi tautea ke fakamanavahē, pea mo e tautea ki ho hako, ʻio, ko e tautea lahi, ʻo fuoloa, mo e ngaahi mahaki lahi, pea fai fuoloa.
60 He will cause you to experience the plagues that he sent on the people of Egypt, and you will never be healed.
Kaeʻumaʻā foki ʻa ʻene ʻomi kiate koe ʻae ngaahi mahaki ʻo ʻIsipite, ʻaia naʻa ke manavahē ai; pea tenau piki mau kiate koe.
61 He will also cause you to experience many other sicknesses and diseases that I have not talked about in these laws, until you all will die.
Pea mo e ngaahi mahaki kotoa pē, mo e ngaahi tautea kotoa pē, ʻaia ʻoku ʻikai tohi ʻi he tohi ʻoe fono ni, ʻe ʻomi ia ʻe Sihova kiate koe, kaeʻoua ke ke ʻauha koe.
62 You became as numerous as the stars in the sky, but only a few of you will remain alive, if you do not obey Yahweh your God.
Pea ʻe tuku ʻakimoutolu ke mou toe tokosiʻi pe, ka naʻa mou tatau mo e ngaahi fetuʻu ʻoe langi ʻi hono tokolahi: ko e meʻa ʻi he ʻikai te ke fai talangofua ki he leʻo ʻo Sihova ko ho ʻOtua.
63 Yahweh was very happy to do good things for you and to cause you to become very numerous, but now he will be happy to ruin you and get rid of you. [Those of] you [who do not die from these plagues] will be snatched away from the land that you will soon be entering to possess.
Pea ʻe hoko ʻo pehē, hangē naʻe fiefia ʻa Sihova kiate kimoutolu ke fai lelei kiate kimoutolu, pea ke fakatokolahi ʻakimoutolu: ʻe pehē, ʻe fiefia ʻa Sihova kiate kimoutolu ke fakaʻauha ʻakimoutolu, pea ke fakaʻosi ʻakimoutolu; pea ʻe hamusi ʻakimoutolu, mei he fonua ʻaia ʻoku ke ʻalu ki ai ke maʻu ia.
64 “Yahweh will scatter you among many people-groups, all over the earth, and in those areas/places you will serve other gods that are made of wood or stone, gods which you and your ancestors have never known/worshiped.
Pea ʻe fakahēʻi koe ʻe Sihova ki he kakai kotoa pē, mei he ngataʻanga ʻe taha ʻo māmani ʻo aʻu atu ki hono ngataʻanga ʻe taha; pea te ke tauhi ʻi ai ʻae ngaahi ʻotua kehe, ʻaia naʻe ʻikai te ke ʻilo ʻe koe, pe ko hoʻo ngaahi tamai, ʻio ʻae ʻakau mo e maka.
65 In those places you will be restless. Yahweh will cause you to be constantly worried/anxious, feel hopeless, and discouraged.
66 You will always be afraid that your enemies will kill you. You will be very fearful, all day and all night.
Pea ʻe ʻikai te ke ʻilo pe te ke moʻui pe te ke mate; pea te ke mamahi ʻi he ʻaho mo e pō, pea ʻe ʻikai te ke maʻu fakamoʻoni ki hoʻo moʻui:
67 Because you will be very fearful/afraid because of the [terrible] things that you see, each morning you will say ‘I wish it were evening already!’ and each evening you will say ‘I wish it were morning already!’
Te ke pehē ʻi he pongipongi, ʻAmusiaange kuo efiafi! pea ʻi he efiafi te ke pehē, ʻAmusiaange kuo pongipongi! Ko e meʻa ʻi he manavahē ʻo ho loto, ʻaia te ke manavahē ai, pea ʻi he mamata ʻe ho mata ʻaia te ke mamata ki ai.
68 Yahweh will send [some of] you back to Egypt in ships, even though he promised that you would never [be forced to] go there again. There in Egypt you will try to sell yourselves to become slaves of your enemies [in order to have food to eat], but no one will buy you. [All those things will happen to you if you do not obey the laws that Yahweh is giving to you].”
