Deuteronomy 11
1 “[Because of all that] Yahweh your God [has done for you], you must love him and continually obey all his rules and regulations and commandments.
Tu aimeras Yahweh, ton Dieu, et tu observeras ce qu’il demande de toi, ses lois, ses ordonnances et ses commandements, tous les jours de ta vie.
2 It was you and your ancestors, not your children, whom he disciplined [by causing all of you to have/experience difficulties]. So, starting today, continue to think about how very great and very powerful he is [DOU, MTY].
Reconnaissez aujourd’hui, — car je ne m’adresse pas à vos enfants, qui ne connaissent pas et qui n’ont pas vu les leçons de Yahweh, votre Dieu, — reconnaissez sa grandeur, sa main forte et son bras étendu;
3 Think about the various miracles [DOU] that he performed in Egypt. Think about what he did to the king of Egypt and to his country.
ses prodiges et ses œuvres qu’il a faits au milieu de l’Égypte, contre Pharaon, roi d’Égypte, et contre tout son pays;
4 Think about what he did to the army of Egypt, to their horses and their chariots. Think about how he caused the Red Sea to flood/cover over them while they were pursuing your ancestors, and how the army of Egypt was completely (wiped out/destroyed).
ce qu’il a fait à l’armée d’Égypte, à ses chevaux et à ses chars, comment il a précipité sur eux les eaux de la mer Rouge, lorsqu’ils vous poursuivaient, et comment Yahweh les a détruits jusqu’à ce jour.
5 Think about what Yahweh did for your ancestors in the desert before you arrived at this place.
Reconnaissez ce qu’il a fait pour vous dans le désert, jusqu’à votre arrivée en ce lieu;
6 Think about what he did to Dathan and Abiram, the two sons of Eliab from the tribe of Reuben. While all of your ancestors were watching, the earth split open, and they fell into the opening [and disappeared], along with their families and their tents, their servants, and their animals.
ce qu’il a fait à Dathan et Abiron, fils d’Eliab, fils de Ruben, que la terre, ouvrant sa bouche, engloutit, avec leurs maisons, leurs tentes et toutes les personnes de leur suite, au milieu de tout Israël.
7 You [SYN] and your ancestors have seen all these miracles that Yahweh performed.
Car vos yeux ont vu toutes les grandes œuvres que Yahweh a faites.
8 So, obey all the commandments that I am giving you today, in order that you will be strong and able to cross the river and occupy the land that you are about to enter,
Vous observerez donc tous les commandements que je vous prescris aujourd’hui, afin que vous soyez forts, que vous entriez et que vous vous rendiez maîtres du pays où vous allez passer pour en prendre possession,
9 and in order that you will live for a long time in that land, the land that Yahweh solemnly promised your ancestors that he would give to them and to their descendants, a land that is very fertile [IDM].
et afin que vous prolongiez vos jours sur la terre que Yahweh a juré à vos pères de leur donner, à eux et à leur postérité, pays où coulent le lait et le miel.
10 The land that you are about to enter and occupy is not like the land of Egypt, where your ancestors lived. In Egypt, after they planted seeds, it was necessary for them to work hard [MTY] to water [the plants that grew].
Car le pays où tu vas entrer pour le posséder n’est pas comme le pays d’Égypte, d’où vous êtes sortis, que tu ensemençais et que tu arrosais avec ton pied, comme un jardin potager.
11 But the land that you are about to enter is a land where there are many hills and valleys, where there is plenty of rain.
Mais le pays où vous allez passer pour le posséder est un pays de montagnes et de vallées, qui boit les eaux de la pluie du ciel;
12 Yahweh takes care of that land. He [SYN] watches over it every day, from the beginning of each year to the end of each year.
un pays dont Yahweh, ton Dieu, prend soin, et sur lequel Yahweh a continuellement les yeux, depuis le commencement de l’année jusqu’à la fin de l’année.
13 Today I am commanding you to love Yahweh our God and to serve him with your entire inner beings. If you do that,
Si vous obéissez à mes commandements que je vous prescris aujourd’hui, aimant Yahweh, votre Dieu, et le servant de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme,
14 each year he will send rain on your land at the (right times/times when it is needed), (in the autumn/at the end of the dry season) and (in the spring/before the next dry season starts). As a result, you will have grain and [grapes to make] wine and [olives to make olive] oil.
je donnerai à votre pays la pluie en son temps, la pluie de la première et celle de la dernière saison, et tu recueilleras ton blé, ton vin nouveau et ton huile;
15 And he will cause grass to grow in your fields for your livestock [to eat]. You will have all the food that you want.
je mettrai aussi de l’herbe dans tes champs pour ton bétail, et tu mangeras et te rassasieras.
16 “But I warn you, do not turn away from Yahweh our God and start to worship other gods,
Prenez garde à vous, de peur que votre cœur ne soit séduit, que vous ne vous détourniez et ne serviez d’autres dieux et ne vous prosterniez devant eux.
17 because if you do that, Yahweh will become very angry with you. He will prevent any rain from falling. As a result, the crops will not grow, and you will soon die [from hunger] in the good land that Yahweh is about to give to you.
La colère de Yahweh s’enflammerait contre vous; il fermerait le ciel, et il n’y aurait pas de pluie; la terre ne donnerait pas ses produits et vous péririez promptement dans le bon pays que Yahweh vous donne.
18 So, keep thinking [IDM] about these commands. Write them [on tiny scrolls] and fasten them to your arms/wrists, and write them on bands that you fasten to your foreheads [to help you to remember them].
Mettez donc sur votre cœur et sur votre âme ces paroles que je vous dis. Vous les lierez comme un signe sur vos mains, et elles seront comme des fronteaux entre vos yeux.
19 Teach them to your children again and again. Talk about them [all the time]: When you are in your houses and when you are walking outside; talk about them when you are lying down at night and when you are getting up in the morning.
Vous les enseignerez à vos enfants, et vous leur en parlerez, soit quand tu resteras dans ta maison, ou que tu iras en voyage, soit quand tu te coucheras ou que tu te lèveras.
20 Write them on the doorposts and on the gates of your houses.
Tu les écriras sur les poteaux de ta maison et sur tes portes:
21 Do that in order that you and your children will live for a long time in the land that Yahweh promised to our ancestors that he would give to them. That land will belong to you [and your descendants] as long as there is a sky above the earth.
afin que vos jours et les jours de vos enfants, dans le pays que Yahweh a juré à vos pères de leur donner, soient aussi nombreux que les jours des cieux au-dessus de la terre.
22 “Faithfully continue to obey what I am commanding you to do—to love Yahweh our God, and to conduct your lives as he wants you to do, and to (be faithful to/have a close relationship with) him.
Car si vous observez soigneusement tous ces commandements que je vous prescris d’accomplir, aimant Yahweh, votre Dieu, marchant dans toutes ses voies et vous attachant à lui,
23 If you do that, Yahweh will expel all the people-groups in that land as you advance, people-groups that are more numerous and more powerful than you are.
Yahweh chassera toutes ces nations devant vous, et vous vous rendrez maîtres de nations plus grandes et plus puissantes que vous.
24 All the ground [in that land] on which you walk will be yours. Your territory will extend from the desert [in the south] to the Lebanon [Mountains in the north], and from the Euphrates River [in the east] to the [Mediterranean] Sea in the west.
Tout lieu que foulera la plante de vos pieds sera à vous; votre frontière s’étendra du désert au Liban, et du fleuve de l’Euphrate jusqu’à la mer occidentale.
25 Yahweh our God will cause all the people in that land to be afraid of you, which is what he promised, with the result that no people-group will be able to stop you.
Nul ne tiendra devant vous; Yahweh, votre Dieu, répandra devant vous, comme il vous l’a dit, la crainte et l’effroi sur tout le pays où vous mettrez le pied.
26 “Listen carefully: Today I am telling you [that Yahweh will either] bless [you or he will] curse you.
Voici que je mets aujourd’hui devant vous une bénédiction et une malédiction:
27 If you obey the commandments of Yahweh our God that I am giving to you today, he will bless you.
la bénédiction, si vous obéissez aux commandements de Yahweh, votre Dieu, que je vous prescris aujourd’hui;
28 If you do not obey them, and if you turn away from him to worship other gods that you have never known about before, he will curse you.
la malédiction, si vous n’obéissez pas aux commandements de Yahweh, votre Dieu, et si vous vous détournez de la voie que je vous prescris en ce jour, pour aller après d’autres dieux que vous n’avez pas connus.
29 And when Yahweh brings you into the land that you are about to enter and occupy, [some of you must stand on top of] Gerizim Mountain and proclaim what will cause Yahweh to bless you, and [the others must stand on top of] Ebal Mountain and proclaim [what will cause Yahweh to] curse you.”
Et lorsque Yahweh, ton Dieu, t’aura fait entrer dans le pays où tu vas pour en prendre possession, tu prononceras la bénédiction sur le mont Garizim, et la malédiction sur le mont Ebal.
30 (Those two mountains are [RHQ] west of the Jordan [River], west of the Jordan Valley near the huge oak tree at Moreh [village] in the land where the Canaan people-group lives. They live close to the sacred trees near Gilgal.)
Ces montagnes ne sont-elles pas de l’autre côté du Jourdain, derrière le chemin de l’occident, au pays des Chananéens qui habitent dans l’Arabah, vis-à-vis de Galgala, près des térébinthes de Moré?
31 “You will soon cross the Jordan [River] to occupy the land that Yahweh our God is giving to you. When you enter that land and start to live there,
Car vous allez passer le Jourdain pour entrer en possession du pays que Yahweh, votre Dieu, vous donne; vous le posséderez et vous y habiterez.
32 be sure to obey all the rules and regulations that I am giving to you today.”
Vous aurez donc soin d’observer toutes les lois et toutes les ordonnances que je mets aujourd’hui devant vous. »
