Deuteronomy 10
1 “Then Yahweh said to me, ‘Cut two stone tablets like the first ones. And make a wooden chest to put them in. Then [bring the tablets] up to me on this mountain.
Damals sagte der HERR zu mir: ›Haue dir zwei Steintafeln zurecht, wie die ersten waren, und steige zu mir auf den Berg herauf; fertige dir auch eine hölzerne Lade an.
2 I will write on those tablets the same words that I wrote on the first tablets, the ones that you broke. Then you can put them in the chest.’
Ich will dann auf die Tafeln die Worte schreiben, die auf den ersten Tafeln gestanden haben, welche du zertrümmert hast; dann sollst du sie in die Lade legen.‹
3 “So I made a chest. I used wood from an acacia tree to make it. Then I cut two tablets of stone like the first ones, and I went up the mountain carrying the tablets.
So fertigte ich denn eine Lade von Akazienholz an, hieb zwei Steintafeln zurecht, wie die ersten waren, und stieg mit den beiden Tafeln in der Hand auf den Berg hinauf.
4 There Yahweh wrote on the tablets the [same] Ten Commandments [that he had written on the first tablet]. They are the commandments that he told to your ancestors from the middle of the fire on the mountain, when they were gathered [at the bottom of the mountain]. Then Yahweh gave the tablets to me,
Da schrieb er auf die Tafeln in derselben Schrift, wie das erste Mal, die zehn Gebote, die der HERR am Tage der Versammlung an dem Berge aus dem Feuer heraus euch zugerufen hatte, und übergab mir (die Tafeln).
5 and I turned and went down the mountain. Then, just as he had commanded, I put them in the chest that I had made. And they are still there.”
Als ich dann umgekehrt und vom Berge wieder hinabgestiegen war, legte ich die Tafeln in die Lade, die ich angefertigt hatte; dort sind sie liegen geblieben, wie der HERR mir geboten hatte.
6 (Then, from the wells that belonged to the people of Jaakan, the Israeli people traveled to Moserah. There Aaron died and was buried, and his son Eleazar took his place and became the Supreme Priest.
Die Israeliten aber brachen von Beeroth-Bene-Jaakan nach Mosera auf; dort starb Aaron und wurde dort begraben, und sein Sohn Eleasar trat als Priester an seine Stelle.
7 From there, the Israelis traveled to Gudgodah, and from there to Jotbathah, which was a place that had many streams.
Von da zogen sie nach Gudgoda weiter und von Gudgoda nach Jotba, einem reichbewässerten Landstrich.
8 At that time, Yahweh (set apart/appointed) the tribe of Levi to carry the chest that contained [the tablets on which were written] the Ten Commandments, and to stand in Yahweh’s presence [in the sacred tent], to offer sacrifices, and to pray for Yahweh to bless [the people. They are still doing those things] at the present time.
Damals sonderte der HERR den Stamm Levi dazu aus, die Lade mit dem Bundesgesetz des HERRN zu tragen und als seine Diener vor ihm zu stehen und in seinem Namen zu segnen, wie es bis auf den heutigen Tag geschieht.
9 That is the reason that the tribe of Levi did not receive any land like the other tribes did. What they received was the work/privilege of being Yahweh’s [priests], which is what he said that they should do.)
Darum haben die Leviten kein Erbteil und kein Besitztum erhalten wie ihre Brüder: der HERR ist ihr Erbteil, wie der HERR, dein Gott, ihnen zugesagt hat.
10 “I stayed on the mountain 40 days and nights, just like I did the first time. [I prayed to] Yahweh, and he (answered my prayers/did what I requested) again and said that he would not destroy your ancestors.
Als ich aber auf dem Berge ebenso lange wie das erste Mal, nämlich vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte, geblieben war, erhörte der HERR mich auch diesmal; der HERR wollte dich nicht verderben
11 Then Yahweh said to me, ‘Continue your journey, going in front of the people, to occupy the land that I vowed your ancestors that I would give to you.’”
und gebot mir: ›Mache dich auf den Weg und brich an der Spitze des Volkes auf, damit sie ans Ziel kommen und das Land in Besitz nehmen, das ich ihnen geben will, wie ich ihren Vätern eidlich versprochen habe!‹«
12 “Now, you Israeli people, [I will tell you] [RHQ] what Yahweh our God requires/demands that you do. He requires you to revere him, to conduct your lives as he wants you to, to love him, and to serve him wholeheartedly [DOU],
»Und nun, Israel, was fordert der HERR, dein Gott, von dir? Doch nur, daß du den HERRN, deinen Gott, fürchtest und immerdar auf seinen Wegen wandelst und daß du ihn liebst und dem HERRN, deinem Gott, mit ganzem Herzen und mit ganzer Seele dienst,
13 and to obey all of his commandments [DOU] which I am giving to you today for your benefit.
indem du die Gebote und die Satzungen des HERRN, die ich dir heute gebiete, zu deinem eigenen Wohlergehen beobachtest.
14 “Do not forget that Yahweh our God owns even the sky and everything that is in it. He also owns the earth and everything that is on it.
Bedenke wohl: dem HERRN, deinem Gott, gehört der Himmel, und zwar der innerste Himmel, die Erde und alles, was auf ihr ist;
15 But [in spite of owning all those things], Yahweh loved your ancestors, and from all the people-groups [on the earth] he chose us, their descendants, and we are still his people.
und doch hat der HERR sich nur deinen Vätern in Liebe zugewandt und hat euch, die Nachkommen jener, aus allen Völkern auserwählt, wie es an diesem Tage offenbar ist.
16 So you must stop sinning [MET] and stop being stubborn [IDM]!
So beschneidet denn die Vorhaut eures Herzens und zeigt euch nicht länger halsstarrig!
17 Yahweh our God is greater than all gods, and he is greater than all rulers. He is very powerful [DOU] and awesome. He (is impartial/does not do things that favor one (group/person) more than others), and he does not accept bribes.
Denn der HERR, euer Gott, ist der Gott der Götter und der Herr der Herren, der große, starke und furchtbare Gott, der die Person nicht ansieht und sich nicht bestechen läßt,
18 He makes sure that orphans and widows are treated fairly. He loves even (foreigners/people from other countries) who live among us Israeli people, and he gives them food and clothes.
der den Waisen und Witwen Recht schafft und den Fremdling liebhat, so daß er ihm Brot und Kleidung gibt.
19 So you must love those foreigners too, because you were once foreigners when you were living in Egypt.
Darum sollt ihr auch den Fremdling lieben; denn ihr seid selbst Fremdlinge im Lande Ägypten gewesen.
20 Revere Yahweh our God and worship only him. (Be faithful to/Have a close relationship with) him, and say that he should punish you if you do not do what you promise.
Den HERRN, deinen Gott, sollst du fürchten, ihm sollst du dienen, ihm anhangen und nur bei seinem Namen schwören!
21 He is the one whom you must praise. He is our God, and we have seen the great and amazing things that he has done for us.
Er ist dein Ruhm und er dein Gott, der an dir jene großen und wunderbaren Taten vollführt hat, die du mit eigenen Augen gesehen hast.
22 When our ancestors, [Jacob and his family], went down to Egypt, there were only seventy of them. But now Yahweh our God has caused us to be as numerous as the stars in the sky.”
Siebzig Seelen an Zahl sind einst deine Väter nach Ägypten hinabgezogen, und jetzt hat der HERR, dein Gott, dich so zahlreich gemacht wie die Sterne am Himmel.«
