2 Samuel 6
1 Then David chose 30,000 Israeli men and gathered them together.
David rassembla encore toute l’élite d’Israël, au nombre de trente mille hommes.
2 He led them to the place in Judah [formerly] called Baalah, [now called Kiriath-Jearim]. They went in order to bring from there [to Jerusalem] the sacred chest, which had the name of Yahweh, the leader of the armies of [the angels in] heaven, written on it, and which had the [statues of the] winged creatures on top of it. Between those statues was where Yahweh spoke messages about ruling his people [MTY].
Accompagné de tout le peuple réuni auprès de lui, David se leva et se mit en marche depuis Baalé-Juda, pour faire monter de là l’arche de Dieu, sur laquelle est invoqué le Nom, le nom de Yahweh des armées qui siège sur les Chérubins.
3 The sacred chest was in the house of Abinadab, on top of a hill. They went there, and they put the chest on a new cart. Uzzah and Ahio, the two sons of Abinadab, were guiding [the oxen that were pulling the cart].
Ils placèrent sur un chariot neuf l’arche de Dieu, et l’emmenèrent de la maison d’Abinadab, qui était sur la colline; Oza et Achio, fils d’Abinadab, conduisaient le chariot neuf
4 Uzzah walked alongside the cart, and Ahio walked in front of it.
(et ils l’emmenèrent de la maison d’Abinadab, qui était sur la colline) avec l’arche de Dieu; Achio marchait devant l’arche.
5 David and all the Israeli men were celebrating in God’s presence, singing with all their strength and [playing] lyres and harps, and beating tambourines, and clashing castanets and cymbals.
David et toute la maison d’Israël dansaient devant Yahweh, au son de toutes sortes d’instruments de bois de cyprès, de harpes, de luths, de tambourins, de sistres et de cymbales.
6 But when they came to the place where Nacon threshed grain, the oxen stumbled. So Uzzah put his hand on the sacred chest to (steady it/prevent it from falling [off the cart]).
Lorsqu’ils furent arrivés à l’aire de Nachon, Oza étendit la main vers l’arche de Dieu et la saisit, parce que les bœufs avaient fait un faux pas.
7 Yahweh immediately became very angry with Uzzah, and he killed him right there alongside the sacred chest, because he had touched the chest, [and Yahweh had commanded that only the descendants of Levi who help the priests should touch the sacred chest].
La colère de Yahweh s’enflamma contre Oza, et Dieu le frappa sur place, à cause de sa précipitation; et Oza mourut là, près de l’arche de Dieu.
8 David was angry because Yahweh had punished Uzzah. So ever since that time, that place has been called ‘The Punishment of Uzzah’.
David fut fâché de ce que Yahweh avait ainsi porté un coup à Oza; et ce lieu a été appelé jusqu’à ce jour Phéréts-Oza.
9 David was [also] afraid of [what else] Yahweh [would do to punish them], so he said, “(How can I take the sacred chest with me [to Jerusalem]?/I am afraid to take the sacred chest with me [to Jerusalem].)” [RHQ]
David eut peur de Yahweh en ce jour-là, et il dit: « Comment l’arche de Yahweh viendrait-elle vers moi? »
10 So he did not want to take the sacred chest to Jerusalem. Instead, they took it to another place; they took it to the house of Obed-Edom, from Gath [city].
Et David ne voulut pas retirer l’arche de Yahweh chez lui, dans la cité de David; et la David la fit conduire dans la maison d’Obédédom de Geth.
11 They left the sacred chest in the house of Obed-Edom for three months, and [during that time] Yahweh blessed Obed-Edom and his family.
L’arche de Yahweh resta trois mois dans la maison d’Obédédom de Geth, et Yahweh bénit Obédédom et toute sa maison.
12 Later, people told David, “Yahweh has blessed Obed-Edom and his family because [he is taking care] of the sacred chest!” When David heard that, he [and some other men] went to Obed-Edom’s house, and very joyfully brought the sacred chest from there to Jerusalem.
On vint dire au roi David: « Yahweh a béni la maison d’Obédédom et tout ce qui est à lui, à cause de l’arche de Dieu. » Et David se mit en route, et il fit monter l’arche de Dieu de la maison d’Obédédom dans la cité de David, avec un joyeux cortège.
13 [This time, descendants of Levi] were carrying the sacred chest, but when they had walked only six steps, they stopped, and there David killed a bull and a fat calf, and offered them to Yahweh for a sacrifice.
Quand les porteurs de l’arche de Yahweh eurent fait six pas, on offrit en sacrifice un bœuf et un veau gras.
14 David was wearing [only] a linen cloth wrapped around his waist, and was dancing very energetically to honor Yahweh.
David dansait de toute sa force devant Yahweh, et David était ceint d’un éphod de lin.
15 David and the Israeli men took the sacred chest up [to Jerusalem], shouting [loudly] and blowing trumpets.
David et toute la maison d’Israël firent monter l’arche de Yahweh avec des cris de joie et au son des trompettes.
16 While they were carrying the sacred chest into the city, [David’s wife] Michal, who was Saul’s daughter, looked out the window [of her house]. She saw King David leaping and dancing to honor Yahweh. So she was disgusted with him.
Lorsque l’arche de Yahweh entra dans la cité de David, Michol, fille de Saül, regarda par la fenêtre et, voyant le roi David sauter et danser devant Yahweh, elle le méprisa dans son cœur.
17 They brought the sacred chest into the tent that David had erected for it. Then David gave to Yahweh offerings to be completely burned [on an altar], and other offerings to maintain fellowship with Yahweh.
Après qu’on eut fait entrer l’arche de Yahweh et qu’on l’eut déposée à sa place, au milieu de la tente que David avait dressée pour elle, David offrit devant Yahweh des holocaustes et des sacrifices pacifiques.
18 When David had finished offering those sacrifices, he asked Yahweh, the Commander of the armies [of the angels], to bless the people.
Quand David eut achevé d’offrir les holocaustes et les sacrifices pacifiques, il bénit le peuple au nom de Yahweh des armées.
19 He also distributed food to all the people. To each Israeli man and woman he gave a loaf of bread, some meat, and a raisin cake. Then all the people returned to their homes.
Puis il distribua à tout le peuple, à toute la multitude d’Israël, hommes et femmes, à chacun un gâteau, une portion de viande et une pâte de raisins. Et tout le peuple s’en alla chacun dans sa maison.
20 When David went home to [ask Yahweh to] bless his family, his wife Michal came out to meet him. She said to him, “Maybe you, the king of Israel, [think that you] [IRO] were honoring yourself today, but really, you acted like a fool, uncovering yourself while the female servants of your officials were watching!”
Comme David s’en retournait pour bénir sa maison, Michol, fille de Saül, sortit à la rencontre de David, et elle dit: « Quelle gloire aujourd’hui pour le roi d’Israël de s’être découvert aujourd’hui aux yeux des servantes de ses serviteurs, comme se découvrirait un homme de rien! »
21 David replied to Michal, “[I was doing that] to honor Yahweh, who chose me instead of your father and other members of his family, to be the king of the Israeli people, the people who belong to Yahweh. And I will [continue to] dance to honor Yahweh!
David répondit à Michol: « C’est devant Yahweh, qui m’a choisi de préférence à ton père et à toute sa maison pour m’établir prince sur son peuple, sur Israël, c’est devant Yahweh que j’ai dansé.
22 [Even though you think that what I did] was disgraceful, I will continue to do it even more. You may despise me [because of what I did], but the women whom you were talking about will honor me!”
Je m’humilierai encore plus que cela et je serai vil à mes propres yeux, et auprès des servantes dont tu parles, auprès d’elles, je serai en honneur. »
23 [As a result, ] Saul’s daughter Michal never gave birth to any children.
Et Michol, fille de Saül, n’eut pas d’enfant jusqu’au jour de sa mort.
