2 Chronicles 7
1 When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from the sky and burned all the offerings and sacrifices [that were on the altar], and the glorious radiance of Yahweh filled the temple.
Lorsque Salomon eut achevé de se répandre en prières, le feu descendit du ciel, et consuma les holocaustes et les victimes; et la majesté du Seigneur remplit la maison.
2 The radiance [was extremely bright], with the result that the priests could not enter the temple of Yahweh.
Et les prêtres mêmes ne pouvaient entrer dans le temple du Seigneur, parce que la majesté du Seigneur avait rempli le temple du Seigneur.
3 When all the Israeli people [who were there] saw the fire coming down and the glory of Yahweh above the temple, they prostrated themselves with their faces touching the ground. They worshiped and thanked Yahweh, singing, “Yahweh is always good to us; he faithfully loves us forever.”
Mais tous les enfants d’Israël aussi virent descendre le feu et la gloire du Seigneur sur la maison; et tombant, inclinés vers la terre, sur le pavé qui était de pierre, ils adorèrent et louèrent le Seigneur: Parce qu’il est bon, parce que sa miséricorde est éternelle.
4 Then the king and all the people who were there dedicated the temple to Yahweh by offering more sacrifices to him. King Solomon gave 22,000 cattle and 120,000 sheep and goats to be sacrificed.
Or le roi et tout le peuple immolaient des victimes devant le Seigneur.
Le roi Salomon tua donc vingt-deux mille bœufs et cent vingt mille béliers; et le roi dédia, ainsi que tout le peuple, la maison du Seigneur.
6 The priests stood in their positions, and the other descendants of Levi stood in their positions holding the musical instruments [to praise] Yahweh, instruments that King David had caused to be made for praising Yahweh and thanking him. [They sang], “He faithfully loves us forever.” Facing the other descendants of Levi the priests stood, blowing their trumpets, while all the Israeli people were standing [and listening].
Or les prêtres étaient appliqués à leurs fonctions, et les Lévites jouaient des instruments propres aux cantiques du Seigneur qu’a composés le roi David pour louer le Seigneur: Parce que sa miséricorde est éternelle; chantant les hymnes de David sur leurs instruments; mais les prêtres sonnaient des trompettes devant eux, et tout Israël était debout.
7 Solomon dedicated the middle part of the courtyard in front of the temple. Then he gave offerings to be completely burned there along with the fat of the animals to be sacrificed to maintain fellowship with Yahweh. The priests burned them there in the courtyard because in addition to those things there were offerings of grain, with the result that there was not enough space on the bronze altar to burn all those sacrifices.
Salomon consacra aussi le milieu du parvis devant le temple du Seigneur; car il avait offert là les holocaustes et les graisses des hosties pacifiques, parce que l’autel d’airain qu’il avait fait ne pouvait tenir les holocaustes, les sacrifices et les graisses.
8 Solomon [and the other people] celebrated the Festival of Living in Temporary Shelters for seven days. There was a huge group of people who celebrated with him. Some of them came from [as far away as] Lebo-Hamath [in the far north] and the border of Egypt [in the far south].
Salomon fit donc en ce temps-là la solennité pendant sept jours, et tout Israël avec lui: assemblée très grande, venue depuis l’entrée d’Emath jusqu’au torrent d’Égypte.
9 On the eighth/next day they gathered again [to worship Yahweh]. They had celebrated the dedication of the altar for seven days and the Festival of Living in Temporary Shelters for seven days.
Et au huitième jour, il fit une réunion, parce qu’il avait dédié l’autel durant sept jours, et qu’il avait célébré la solennité durant sept jours.
10 Then on the next day Solomon sent them to their homes. They were very joyful because of all the good things that Yahweh had done for David and Solomon and for all his Israeli people.
Ainsi, au vingt-troisième jour du septième mois, il renvoya dans leurs tabernacles les peuples se livrant à l’allégresse, et se réjouissant du bien qu’avait fait le Seigneur à David, à Salomon et à Israël son peuple.
11 Solomon’s [workers] finished building the temple and Solomon’s palace. And Solomon finished doing everything else that he had planned to do.
Salomon acheva donc la maison du Seigneur, la maison du roi, et tout ce qu’il s’était proposé en son cœur de faire dans la maison du Seigneur et dans sa propre maison, et il prospéra.
12 Then Yahweh appeared to him one night [in a dream] and said to him, “I have heard your prayer, and I have chosen this temple to be the place where my people will offer sacrifices to me.
Or le Seigneur lui apparut pendant la nuit, et dit: J’ai entendu ta prière, et choisi ce lieu pour moi, comme une maison de sacrifice.
13 “When I prevent any rain from falling, or when I command locusts to eat all the crops, or when I send a plague among my people,
Si je ferme le ciel, et qu’il ne tombe point de pluie; si j’ordonne et je commande à la sauterelle de dévorer la terre, et si j’envoie une peste à mon peuple,
14 if the people who belong to me humble themselves and pray, and request me to help them, and if they turn away from their sinful behavior, then I will hear from heaven. I will forgive them for having sinned and I will cause them to prosper again.
Mais que, converti, mon peuple, sur qui a été invoqué mon nom. me prie, et qu’il recherche ma face, et qu’il fasse pénitence de ses voies très mauvaises, alors moi je les exaucerai du ciel, et je pardonnerai leurs péchés, et je purifierai leur terre.
15 I [SYN] will see them and I [SYN] will hear them when they pray to me in this place.
Mes yeux aussi seront ouverts, et mes oreilles attentives à la prière de celui qui priera en ce lieu;
16 I have chosen and have (set apart/dedicated) this temple in order that people may worship [MTY] me there forever. I will always watch over [MTY] it and protect [IDM] it.
Car j’ai choisi et j’ai sanctifié ce lieu, afin que mon nom y soit à jamais, et que mes yeux et mon cœur y demeurent constamment tous les jours.
17 “And as for you, if you obey me as David your father did, and if you do all that I command you to do, and obey all my laws and decrees,
Et toi-même, si tu marches devant moi comme a marché David ton père; si tu fais selon tout ce que je t’ai ordonné, et que tu gardes mes lois et mes ordonnances,
18 I will make sure that your descendants will always be kings, which is what I promised to David your father, saying, ‘Some of your descendants will always be the kings of Israel.’
J’élèverai le trône de ton règne comme je l’ai promis à David, ton père, disant: On n’enlèvera pas à ta race un homme qui doit être prince en Israël.
19 “But if you Israelis turn away from me and disobey the decrees and commands that I have given to you, and you start to worship other gods,
Mais si vous vous détournez, et que vous abandonniez mes lois et mes préceptes que je vous ai proposés, et que, vous en allant, vous serviez des dieux étrangers et les adoriez,
20 I will cause you to be expelled from this land that I have given to you, and I will abandon this temple that I have set apart to be the place where people should worship me. I will cause it to be despised and ridiculed by people of all nations.
Je vous arracherai de ma terre que je vous ai donnée; et cette maison que j’ai consacrée à mon nom, je la rejetterai de ma face, et je la livrerai en proverbe et en exemple à tous les peuples.
21 Although this temple is now greatly respected, when that happens, all the people who pass by will be appalled, and they will say, ‘Why has Yahweh done terrible things like this to this country and to this temple?’
Ainsi cette maison sera en dérision à tous ceux qui passeront, et ils diront, frappés d’étonnement: Pourquoi le Seigneur a-t-il fait ainsi à cette terre et à cette maison?
22 And others will reply, ‘It happened because they rejected Yahweh, the God to whom their ancestors belonged, the one who brought their ancestors out of Egypt, and they have been worshiping other gods and trying to please them. And that is why Yahweh has caused them to experience all these disasters.’”
Et l’on répondra: Parce qu’ils ont abandonné le Seigneur Dieu de leurs pères, qui les retira de la terre d’Égypte, et qu’ils ont pris des dieux étrangers, et qu’ils les ont adorés et servis: c’est pour cela que sont venus sur eux tous ces maux.
