2 Chronicles 10
1 All the people of Israel went to Shechem [city] in order to appoint Rehoboam to be their king. So Rehoboam also went there.
Ug si Roboam miadto sa Sichem; kay ang tibook Israel ming-adto sa Sichem aron sa paghimo kaniya nga hari.
2 Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, had fled to Egypt [to escape] from King Solomon. But when he heard [about the people wanting to appoint Rehoboam to be their king], he returned [to Israel] from Egypt
Ug nahitabo, sa pagkadungog ni Jeroboam anak nga lalake ni Nabat niana (kay siya didto sa Egipto, diin siya mikalagiw gikan sa atubangan ni hari Salomon) nga si Jeroboam mipauli gikan sa Egipto.
3 So the [leaders of the northern tribes] summoned him, and he went with them [to talk] to Rehoboam. They said to Rehoboam,
Ug ilang gipasugoan ug gipatawag siya; ug si Jeroboam ug ang tibook Israel ming-adto, ug sila namulong kang Roboam nga nagaingon:
4 “Your father [Solomon] forced us to work very hard for him. If you do not force us to work that hard, and if you charge us less taxes than we were paying to him, we will serve you [faithfully].”
Ang imong amahan nagpabug-at sa among yugo; busa karon ang pagsakit nga pag-alagad sa imong amahan, ug ang iyang mabug-at nga yugo nga iyang gibutang ibabaw kanamo himoang magaan-gaan, ug kami magaalagad kanimo.
5 He replied, “Come back three days from now [and I will give you my answer].” So those leaders [and Jeroboam] left.
Ug siya miingon kanila: Bumalik kamo pag-usab kanako sa tapus ang totolo ka adlaw. Ug ang katawohan mingpahawa.
6 Then King Rehoboam consulted his older men who had advised his father Solomon while he was still alive. He asked them, “What shall I say to answer these men?”
Ug si hari Roboam nagpakitambag uban sa mga tigulang nga nanagtindog sa atubangan ni Salomon nga iyang amahan samtang buhi pa siya, sa pag-ingon: Unsay tambag nga inyong ikahatag kanako aron akong ikatubag niining katawohan?
7 They replied, “If you will be kind to these people and do things that will please them, and if you say kind things to them when you answer them, they will always serve you.”
Ug sila namulong kaniya, nga nagaingon: Kong ikaw magmaloloy-on niining katawohan, ug magpahimuot kanila, ug mamulong sa maayong mga pulong kanila, nan sila mahimong imong mga ulipon sa walay katapusan.
8 But he ignored what the older men advised him to do. Instead, he consulted the younger men who had grown up with him, who were now his advisors.
Apan iyang gisalikway ang tambag sa mga tigulang nga ilang gihatag kaniya, ug nagpakitambag sa mga batan-on nga nanagtubo dungan kaniya, nga nagtindog sa iyang atubangan.
9 He said to them, “How should I answer the men who are asking me to reduce the [work and taxes] that my father required from them?”
Ug siya miingon kanila: Unsang tambaga ang inyong ikahatag kanako aron atong ikatubag niining katawohan, nga mingsulti kanako, sa pag-ingon: Himoa nga ang yugo nga gibutang sa imong amahan sa ibabaw namo magaan-gaan?
10 The young men who had grown up with him replied, “[Those men] have said that your father forced them to work very hard for him, so they want you to reduce the [work and taxes] that your father required from them. But this is what you should tell them: ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.
Ug ang mga batan-on nga nanagtubo uban kaniya namulong kaniya, sa pag-ingon: Mao kini ang ipamulong mo sa katawohan nga mingsulti kanimo, sa pag-ingon: Ang imong amahan naghimo sa among yugo nga mabug-at; apan himoa kining magaan-gaan alang kanamo; mao kini ang ipamulong mo kanila: Ang akong diyutay nga tudlo mabaga pa kay sa mga hawak sa akong amahan.
11 What I mean is that my father required you to [work hard and pay high taxes]. But I will make those loads heavier. [It was as though] my father whipped you, but I will whip you with whips that have pieces of metal in them.’”
Ug karon ingon nga ang akong amahan nagmando kaninyo uban ang usa ka mabug-at nga yugo, ako magadugang sa inyong yugo: ang akong amahan nagcastigo kaninyo uban sa mga latigo, apan ako magacastigo kaninyo uban sa mga tanga.
12 Three days later, Jeroboam and all the leaders came to King Rehoboam again, which is what he had told them to do.
Busa si Jeroboam ug ang tibook katawohan ming-adto kang Roboam sa ikatolo ka adlaw, ingon sa sugo sa hari, nga nagaingon: Balik dinhi kanako sa ikatolo ka adlaw.
13 The king ignored the advice of the older men and spoke harshly to the Israeli leaders.
Ug ang hari mitubag kanila nga misingka: ug si hari Roboam misalikway sa tambag sa mga tawong tigulang,
14 [He told them what the younger men had advised.] He said, “My father put heavy burdens [of work and taxes] on you, but I will put heavier burdens on you. [It was as though] he beat you with whips, but I will beat you with whips that have pieces of metal in them!”
Ug namulong kanila sumala sa tambag sa mga batan-ong lalake, nga nagaingon: Ang akong amahan nagpabug-at sa inyong yugo, apan ako magadugang niana: ang akong amahan nagcastigo kaninyo uban sa mga latigo, apan ako magacastigo kaninyo uban sa mga tanga.
15 So the king did not pay any attention to the Israeli leaders. But this happened in order that what Yahweh had told the prophet Ahijah about Jeroboam would happen.
Busa ang hari wala magpatalinghug sa katawohan; kay kini gituyo sa Dios, aron nga mapalig-on ni Jehova ang iyang pulong, nga iyang gipamulong pinaagi kang Ahias nga Silonhon ngadto kang Jeroboam ang anak nga lalake ni Nabat.
16 When the Israeli leaders realized that the king did not pay any attention to what they said, they shouted, “We do not want anything to do with this descendant of King David! We will not pay attention to what this grandson of Jesse says! You people of Israel, let’s go home! As for this descendant of David, he can rule his own kingdom!” So the Israeli leaders returned to their homes.
Ug sa pagtan-aw sa tibook Israel nga ang hari wala magpatalinghug kanila, ang katawohan mingtubag sa hari, sa pag-ingon: Unsay labut namo kang David? ni may panulondon kami sa anak nga lalake ni Isai: ang tagsatagsa ka tawo ngadto sa inyong mga balong-balong, Oh Israel: karon tan-awa sa kaugalingon mong balay, David. Busa ang tibook Israel namahawa ngadto sa ilang mga balong-balong.
17 And [after that, the only Israeli] people whom Rehoboam ruled over were those who lived in the territory of [the tribes of] Judah [and Benjamin].
Apan mahatungod sa mga anak sa Israel nga nagpuyo sa mga ciudad sa Juda, si Roboam ang naghari kanila.
18 Then King Rehoboam went with Adoniram [to talk to the Israeli people]. Adoniram was the man who supervised [all the men who were] forced to work [for Rehoboam]. But the Israeli people killed him by throwing stones at him. When that happened, King Rehoboam quickly got in his chariot and escaped to Jerusalem.
Unya gipaadto ni hari Roboam si Adoram, nga nagbantay sa mga tawo ilalum sa pintakasi; ug ang mga anak sa Israel mingbato kaniya sa kamatayon uban sa mga bato. Ug si hari Roboam midali sa pagtungtong sa iyang carro, aron sa pagkalagiw ngadto sa Jerusalem.
19 Ever since that time, [the people of the northern tribes of] Israel have been rebelling against the descendants of [King] David.
Busa ang Israel mingsukol batok sa balay ni David hangtud niining adlawa.
