1 Samuel 5

1 After the army of the Philistia people-group captured God’s sacred chest in Ebenezer [town], they took it to Ashdod [which is one of their biggest cities].

Y los Filisteos tomada el arca de Dios, la trajeron desde Eben-ezer a Azoto.

2 They carried it into the temple of [their god] Dagon, and placed it alongside a statue of Dagon.

Y tomaron los Filisteos el arca de Dios, y metiéronla en la casa de Dagón, y pusiéronla junto a Dagón.

3 But early the next morning, when the people of Ashdod [went to see it, they saw that] the statue had fallen on its face in front of Yahweh’s sacred chest! So they set the statue up in its place again.

Y el siguiente día los de Azoto se levantaron de mañana, y, he aquí Dagón postrado en tierra delante del arca de Jehová: y tomaron a Dagón, y volviéronle a su lugar.

4 But the following morning, [they saw that] it had fallen down in front of the sacred chest again. But this time, the statue’s head and hands had broken off, and were lying in the doorway. Only its body remained intact/unbroken.

Y tornándose a levantar de mañana el día siguiente, he aquí que Dagón había caído postrado en tierra delante del arca de Jehová: y la cabeza de Dagón, y las dos palmas de sus manos estaban cortadas sobre el umbral de la puerta; solamente había quedado Dagón en él.

5 That is the reason that since that time, the priests of Dagon and everyone else who enters the temple of Dagon in Ashdod do not step on the doorsill [where the hands and head of Dagon fell].

Por esta causa los sacerdotes de Dagón, y todos los que entran en el templo de Dagón, no pisan el umbral de Dagón en Azoto hasta hoy.

6 Then Yahweh [SYN] powerfully caused the people of Ashdod and the people who lived in nearby villages to have (a very great plague/serious illness) of tumors.

Y la mano de Jehová se agravó sobre los de Azoto, que los destruyó; y los hirió con hemorróides en los siesos en Azoto y en todos sus términos.

7 The men of Ashdod realized why this was happening, and they cried out, “The god of the Israeli people is punishing us and is also punishing our god Dagon. So we cannot allow the sacred chest of the god of the Israelis to remain here!”

Y viendo esto los de Azoto, dijeron: No quede con nosotros el arca del Dios de Israel: porque su mano es dura sobre nosotros, y sobre nuestro dios Dagón.

8 They summoned the five kings of the Philistia people-group, and asked them, “What should we do with the sacred chest of the god of the Israelis?” The kings replied, “Take the sacred chest to Gath [city].” So they moved it to Gath.

Y enviaron a juntar a sí todos los príncipes de los Filisteos, y dijeron: ¿Qué haremos del arca del Dios de Israel? Y ellos respondieron: Pásese el arca del Dios de Israel en Get. Y pasaron el arca del Dios de Israel.

9 But after they took it to Gath, Yahweh powerfully struck the people of that city also, with the result that many men, including young men and old men, got tumors on their skin. Then the people became very afraid.

Y aconteció que como la hubieron pasado, la mano de Jehová fue contra la ciudad con grande quebrantamiento: que hirió los hombres de aquella ciudad desde el chico hasta el grande que se les cubrían los siesos con hemorróides.

10 So they took the sacred chest to Ekron [city]. But when the men carried the sacred chest into Ekron, the people there cried out, “Why are you bringing the sacred chest of the God of the Israelis into our city [RHQ]? [By doing that] you will cause us and the rest of our people to die!”

Y enviaron el arca de Dios a Accarón. Y como el arca de Dios vino a Accarón, los de Accarón dieron voces, diciendo: Pasaron a mí el arca del Dios de Israel por matarme a mí y a mí pueblo.

11 The people were terrified/in panic because [they knew that] God was starting to punish them severely. So they summoned the [five] kings of the Philistia people-group again, and [pleaded with them], saying, “Take this sacred chest of the god of the Israelis back to its own place! If you do not do that quickly, we will all die!”

Y enviaron a juntar todos los príncipes de los Filisteos, diciendo: Enviád el arca del Dios de Israel, y tórnese a su lugar, y no mate a mí y a mí pueblo. Porque había quebrantamiento de muerte en toda la ciudad, y la mano de Dios se había allí agravado.

12 Some of the people in Ekron had already died, and the rest of the people were suffering because of tumors on their skin. So they all cried out to their gods [MTY] [to help them].

Y los que no morían, eran heridos con hemorróides en los siesos, que el clamor de la ciudad subía al cielo.
