1 Samuel 4
1 And Samuel told to all the people of Israel the messages that God gave him. At that time the Israeli army went to fight against the army of the Philistine people. The Israeli army set up their tents at Ebenezer, and the Philistine army set up their tents at Aphek.
Ug ang pulong ni Samuel miabut sa tibook nga Israel. Karon ang Israel nanggula sa pagpakig-away batok sa mga Filistehanon, ug nanagpahaluna tupad sa Eben-ezer: ug ang mga Filistehanon mingpahaluna didto sa Aphec.
2 The Philistine army attacked the Israeli army, and as the battle continued, the Philistines defeated the Israelis and killed about 4,000 of their soldiers.
Ug ang mga Filistehanon nanagpahimutang sa ilang kaugalingon sa pagtalay batok sa Israel: ug sa diha nga nagakasangka na sila sa gubat ang Israel gidaug sa atubangan sa mga Filistehanon; ug ilang gipamatay gikan sa panon sa kasundalohan sa patag duolan sa upat ka libo ka tawo.
3 When the remaining Israeli soldiers returned to their camp, the Israeli elders/leaders said, “Why did Yahweh allow the Philistine army to defeat us today? We should bring the chest that contains the Ten Commandments here from Shiloh, in order that Yahweh will go with us [when we go to the battle again, and] in order that our enemies will not defeat us again!”
Ug sa diha nga ang mga tawo miabut na sa campo, ang mga anciano sa Israel nanag-ingon: Ngano ba nga gihampak man kita ni Jehova niining adlawa sa atubangan sa mga Filistehanon? Atong kuhaon ang arca sa tugon ni Jehova gikan sa Silo ug dad-on ta nganhi, aron kana mahianhi sa taliwala nato, ug magluwas kanato gikan sa kamot sa atong mga kaaway.
4 So the soldiers did that. They sent some men to Shiloh, and those men brought back the chest that contained the Ten Commandments. [They thought that if they did that, Yahweh would help them. They believed that] Yahweh sat on a throne between the statues of winged creatures [that were on top of] the chest that Yahweh Almighty [had given them]. The two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, went with them.
Busa ang katawohan nagpasugo ngadto sa Silo; ug ilang gidala gikan didto ang arca sa tugon ni Jehova sa mga panon, nga naglingkod sa ibabaw sa mga querubin: ug ang duruha ka anak nga lalake ni Eli, si Ophni ug si Pineas, didto uban sa arca sa tugon sa Dios.
5 When the Israeli people saw [the men bringing] the box into their camp, they were so happy that they shouted loudly. They shouted so loudly that they made the ground shake!
Ug sa paghiabut sa arca sa tugon ni Jehova didto sa campo, ang tibook nga Israel mingsinggit sa usa ka dakung tingog, sa pagkaagi nga ang yuta mikurog pag-usab.
6 The Philistines asked, “What are the people in the Hebrew camp shouting about?” Someone told them that they were shouting because the chest that contained the Ten Commandments of Yahweh had been brought to them.
Ug sa diha nga ang mga Filistehanon nakadungog sa kagahub sa singgit, sila ming-ingon: Unsay kahulogan sa kagahub niining dakung singgit sa campo sa mga Hebreohanon? Ug sila nakasabut nga ang arca ni Jehova nahiabut sa campo.
7 Then the Philistines became very afraid. They said, “One of the Israelis’ gods has come into their camp [to help them] We are in big trouble now! Nothing like this has happened to us before!
Ug ang mga Filistehanon nangahadlok, kay sila nanag-ingon: Ang Dios nahiabut sa campo. Ug sila nanag-ingon: Pagkaalaut nato! Kay walay usa ka butang nga ingon niana sukad masukad.
8 (Who can/Can anyone) save us from their powerful gods [RHQ]? They are the gods who struck the people of Egypt with many plagues [before the Israelis left Egypt and traveled] through the desert.
Pagkaalaut nato! Kinsa ba ang makaluwas kanato gikan sa kamot niining makagagahum nga mga dios? Kini mao ang mga dios nga naghampak sa mga Egiptohanon uban sa nagkalainlain nga silot didto sa kamingawan.
9 You Philistine men, be courageous! Fight very hard! If you do not do that, [they will defeat us, and then] you will become their slaves, just like they have been our slaves previously!”
Pagmakusganon, bumarog kamo ingon nga mga lalake, Oh, kamo nga mga Filistehanon, aron kamo dili maulipon sa mga Hebreohanon, ingon nga sila naulipon ninyo kaniadto: bumarog kamo ingon nga mga lalake, ug magpakig-away kamo.
10 So the Philistine men fought very hard, and they defeated the Israelis. They killed 30,000 Israeli soldiers, and the other Israeli soldiers fled and ran away to their tents.
Ug ang mga Filistehanon ming-away, ug ang Israel gidaug ug nangalagiw ang tagsatagsa ka tawo ngadto sa iyang balong-balong: ug may dakung kamatay; kay may napukan sa Israel nga katloan ka libo sa mga sundalo nga nagtiniil.
11 The Philistines captured the sacred chest, and they killed Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas.
Ug ang arca sa Dios naagaw; ug ang duruha ka anak nga lalake ni Eli, si Ophni ug si Pineas, gipamatay.
12 On that same day, one man of the tribe [descended from] Benjamin tore his clothes and threw dirt on his head [to show that he was very sad]. He ran from the place where the armies were fighting, and he arrived at Shiloh late [that afternoon].
Ug may midalagan nga usa ka tawo sa Benjamin gikan sa panon sa kasundalohan, ug miadto sa Silo sa maong adlaw, uban ang iyang bisti nga ginisi, ug may yuta sa ibabaw sa iyang ulo.
13 Eli was waiting beside the road. [He wanted to hear news about the battle, and] he was also very anxious to know if anything bad had happened to God’s sacred chest. When the messenger arrived and told people what had happened, everyone in the town started to cry loudly.
Ug sa diha nga nahiabut siya, ania karon, si Eli naglingkod sa iyang lingkoranan haduol sa daplin sa dalan nga nagbantay; kay ang iyang kasingkasing nagakurog tungod sa arca sa Dios. Ug sa diha nga ang tawo nahiabut na didto sa ciudad ug nagsugilon niini ang tibook nga ciudad mingsinggit.
14 Eli asked, “Why are they making all that noise?” The messenger ran over to Eli and told him the news.
Ug sa diha nga si Eli nakadungog sa kaguliyang sa panagsinggit, siya miingon: Unsa bay kahulogan sa kaguliyang niining kasamok? Ug ang tawo midali ug miadto, ug nagsugilon kang Eli.
15 At that time, Eli was 98 years old, and he was blind.
Karon si Eli kasiyaman na ug walo ka tuig ang panuigon; ug ang iyang mga mata nahalap na, mao nga dili na siya makakita.
16 The messenger said to Eli, “I have just come from where the armies were fighting. I left there earlier today.” Eli asked, “What happened?”
Ug ang tawo miingon kang Eli: Ako mao siya ang nahiabut gikan sa panon sa kasundalohan, ug mikalagiw ako niining adlawa gikan sa panon sa kasundalohan. Ug siya miingon: Naunsa na man ang lakaw sa kasamok, anak ko?
17 The man replied, “The Philistines defeated our Israeli army. They killed thousands of our soldiers, and the others ran away. The Philistines killed your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas. They also captured God’s sacred chest.”
Ug siya nga nagdala sa mga balita, mitubag ug miingon: Ang Israel nangalagiw sa atubangan sa mga Filistehanon, ug may usa ka daku usab nga kamatay sa taliwala sa katawohan, ug ang imong duruha ka anak nga lalake usab si Ophni ug si Pineas, nangamatay, ug ang arca sa Dios naagaw.
18 Eli was very old, and he was very fat; and when he heard what had happened to the sacred chest, he fell backward from his chair beside the town gate. His neck was broken and he died. He had led the Israeli people for 40 years before he died.
Ug kini nahitabo, nga sa diha nga siya naghisgot mahatungod sa arca sa Dios, nga si Eli nahayang sa iyang gilingkuran sa kiliran sa ganghaan; ug ang iyang liog nabunggo, ug siya namatay: kay siya usa ka tigulang nga tawo, ug mabug-at. Ug siya nagmaghuhukom sa Israel sulod sa kap-atan ka tuig.
19 The wife/widow of Eli’s son Phinehas was pregnant, and it was almost time for her to give birth to her baby. When she heard that God’s sacred chest had been captured and that her husband and her father-in-law were dead, her labor pains suddenly began. She quickly gave birth to a boy.
Ug ang iyang binalaye, ang asawa ni Pineas, may bata nga haduol na igaanak: ug sa diha nga siya nakadungog sa mga balita nga ang arca sa Dios naagaw, ug nga ang iyang ugangan nga lalake ug ang iyang bana namatay, siya mitakubo ug nanganak; kay ang iyang mga kasakit midangat kaniya.
20 The women who were helping her tried to encourage her by saying to her, “You have given birth to a son!” But she did not pay any attention [DOU] to what they said.
Ug sa panahon nga duolan na siyang mamatay ang mga babaye nga nanagtindog sa tupad niya, miingon kaniya: Ayaw kahadlok; kay ikaw manganak sa usa ka anak nga lalake. Apan siya wala tumubag, ni manumbaling niana.
21 She named the boy Ichabod, which means ‘no glory’, because she said, “[God’s] glory has departed from Israel.” She said that because God’s sacred chest had been captured and because her husband and her father-in-law had died.
Ug iyang ginganlan ang bata nga Ichabod, nga nag-ingon: Ang himaya nahimulag gikan sa Israel; tungod kay ang arca sa Dios naagaw, ug tungod sa iyang ugangan nga lalake ug sa iyang bana.
22 She said, “[God’s] glory has left Israel, because God’s sacred chest has been captured!” And then she died.
