1 Samuel 26
1 One day [some of] the people of Ziph [town] went to Saul while he was at Gibeah, and they said to him, “David is hiding in a cave on Hakilah hill, across from Jeshimon [town].”
Les gens de Ziph vinrent trouver Saül à Ghibea pour lui dire que David se tenait caché sur la colline de Hakhila, à la lisière du désert.
2 So Saul chose 3,000 of the best Israeli soldiers and went with them to Ziph Desert to search for David.
Et Saül se mit en marche, suivi de trois mille hommes de l’élite d’Israël, et descendit vers le désert de Ziph pour y chercher David.
3 Saul and his men set up their tents close to the road on Hakilah hill, east of Jeshimon [town], but David [and his men] stayed in the desert. When David heard that Saul was searching for him,
Saül campa sur la colline de Hakhila qui fait face au désert, sur le chemin, et David, qui se tenait dans le désert, vit que Saül l’y poursuivait.
4 he sent some spies to find out for certain that Saul had come to Hakilah.
Il envoya des espions et connut avec certitude l’arrivée de Saül.
5 Then [that evening] David went to the place where Saul had set up his tent. [From a distance] he saw where Saul and his army commander, Abner, were sleeping. Saul was sleeping with all his army [sleeping] around him.
Alors David se leva et pénétra jusqu’au lieu où campait Saül. Il vit la place où Saül reposait ainsi qu’Abner, fils de Ner, son général; Saül était couché dans l’enceinte, et sa troupe campait autour de lui.
6 David [went back to where his men were and] talked to Ahimelech, who was from the Heth people-group, and Joab’s brother Abishai, whose mother was [David’s older sister] Zeruiah. He asked them, “Who will go with me down into the camp where Saul is?” Abishai replied, “I will go with you.”
David, prenant la parole, dit au Héthéen Ahimélec et à Abisaï, fils de Cerouya, frère de Joab: "Qui veut descendre avec moi vers Saül, à son campement? Moi! dit Abisaï; j’irai avec toi."
7 So that night David and Abishai crept into Saul’s camp. They saw that Saul was asleep. His spear was stuck in the ground near his head. Saul was asleep in the middle of the camp. Abner [the army commander] and the other soldiers were sleeping around Saul.
David et Abisaï, parvenus de nuit près de la troupe, virent Saül couché et dormant dans l’enceinte, à son chevet sa lance fichée en terre; Abner et la troupe étaient couchés autour de lui.
8 Abishai whispered to David, “Today Yahweh has enabled us to kill your enemy! Allow me to fasten Saul to the ground [by thrusting] my spear into him. It will be necessary for me to strike him only once. I will not [need to] strike him twice.”
Abisaï dit à David "Dieu livre aujourd’hui ton ennemi en ta main; permets-moi de le clouer à terre de sa lance, d’un seul coup, sans avoir à redoubler."
9 But David whispered to Abishai, “No, do not kill Saul. Yahweh has appointed him to be king, so Yahweh will surely [RHQ] punish anyone who kills him.
David répondit à Abisaï: "Ne le fais pas périr! Qui porterait impunément la main sur l’élu du Seigneur?
10 Just as surely as Yahweh lives, he himself will punish Saul. Perhaps Yahweh will strike him when it is Saul’s time to die, or perhaps Saul will be killed in a battle.
Non, par le Dieu vivant! ajouta David; mais que ce soit le Seigneur qui le frappe, ou qu’il meure quand son jour sera venu, ou qu’engagé dans une bataille il y périsse.
11 But I hope/desire that Yahweh will prevent me from harming the king whom he has appointed. Let’s take Saul’s spear and water jug that are near his head. Then let’s get out of here!”
Me préserve le Seigneur de porter la main sur son élu! Prends seulement, je te prie, la lance qui est à son chevet, et le pot à eau, et retirons-nous."
12 So David took the spear and the jug, and he and Abishai left. No one saw them or knew what they were doing, and no one woke up, because Yahweh had caused them to be sound asleep.
David prit donc la lance et le pot à eau au chevet de Saül, et ils s’en allèrent sans que personne le vît ou le sût, sans qu’aucun se réveillât; car tous dormaient, accablés par le Seigneur d’un profond sommeil.
13 David and Abishai went across the valley and climbed to the top of the hill, a long way from Saul’s camp.
David, passant de l’autre côté, s’arrêta au sommet de la montagne, à distance: un grand intervalle les séparait.
14 Then David shouted to Abner, “Abner, can you hear me?” Abner [woke up and] replied “Who are you, [waking up] the king by calling out to him?”
David appela la troupe, puis Abner, fils de Ner, en disant "Ne répondras-tu pas, Abner? Qui es-tu, dit Abner, toi qui cries ainsi près du roi?"
15 David replied, “[I am sure that] you are the greatest man in Israel [IRO, RHQ]! So why did you not guard your master, the king? Someone came into your camp in order to kill your master, the king.
Et David dit à Abner: "Quoi! N’Es-tu pas un homme? Qui est ton égal en Israël? Pourquoi donc ne veilles-tu pas sur le roi, ton maître, de sorte que le premier venu peut venir l’assassiner?
16 You have done a very poor [job of guarding Saul]. So just as surely as Yahweh lives, you and your men should be executed! You have not guarded your master whom Yahweh appointed to be the king. Where are the king’s spear and the water jug that were close to his head?”
Ce n’est pas bien ce que tu fais là! Par le Dieu vivant, vous êtes dignes de mort, vous qui n’avez pas veillé sur votre maître, sur l’oint du Seigneur! Et maintenant, regarde où est la lance du roi et le pot à eau placés à son chevet?"
17 [The shouting woke] Saul [up and he] recognized that it was David’s voice. He called out, saying, “My son David, is that your voice?” David replied, “Yes, your majesty it is my voice.”
Saül reconnut la voix de David et dit: "Est-ce ta voix que j’entends, David, mon fils?" David répondit: "C’Est ma voix, seigneur.
18 Then David added, “Sir, why are you pursuing me [RHQ]? What wrong have I done [RHQ]?
Pourquoi, continua-t-il, mon seigneur persécute-t-il son serviteur? Qu’ai-je donc fait? Et quel est mon crime?
19 Your majesty, listen to me! If Yahweh has caused you to be angry with me, I should offer a sacrifice [in order to appease him]. But if it is people who have caused you to be angry with me, I hope/desire that Yahweh will curse them. They have forced me to leave the land that Yahweh gave to me. They have told me, ‘Go somewhere else and worship other gods!’
Et maintenant, que mon seigneur le roi daigne écouter les paroles de son serviteur: si c’est l’Eternel qui t’a excité contre moi, qu’il accueille mon offrande; mais si ce sont des hommes, ils seront maudits de Dieu, parce qu’ils m’ont empêché, en me chassant, de m’attacher à l’héritage de l’Eternel et m’ont dit: Va servir des dieux étrangers!
20 Now do not force me to die [MTY] far from [where we worship] Yahweh. You, the king of Israel, have come here searching for me. [But I do not want to harm you]! I am [as harmless as] a flea [MET]. You are searching for me like people hunt for a bird in the mountains! [MET]”
Et maintenant, que mon sang ne coule pas à terre, contrairement aux vues de l’Eternel! Car le roi d’Israël s’est mis en campagne à la poursuite d’une simple puce, comme on va pourchasser une perdrix dans les montagnes!"
21 Then Saul said, “David, my son. I have sinned [by trying to kill you]. So come back home. Today you have considered my life to be very valuable [and so you have not killed me]. So I will not try to harm you. I have made a big mistake and have acted foolishly.”
Saül répondit: "J’Ai péché… Reviens, mon fils, ô David! Je ne te ferai plus de mal, puisqu’en ce jour tu as respecté ma vie. Certes j’ai été sot et insensé au dernier point."
22 David replied, [“will leave] your spear here. Send one of your young men here to get it.
"Voici, reprit David, la lance du roi; qu’un des serviteurs vienne la prendre.
23 Yahweh rewards us for the things that we do that are right and for being loyal [to him]. Even when Yahweh placed me where I could easily have killed you, I refused to do that, because you are the one whom Yahweh has appointed [MTY] to be the king.
L’Eternel rendra à chacun selon son mérite et sa loyauté; car il t’a mis tout à l’heure à ma merci, mais je n’ai pas voulu porter la main sur l’oint du Seigneur.
24 Just like I considered your life to be valuable [and spared your life] today, I hope/desire that Yahweh will consider my life to be valuable and [spare my life and] save me from all my troubles.”
Et maintenant, comme ta vie a été, en ce jour, chose précieuse à mes yeux, puisse la mienne être précieuse aux yeux du Seigneur et puisse-t-il me sauver de toute peine!"
25 Then Saul said to David, “My son David, I pray that Yahweh will bless you. You will do great things very successfully.” Then David returned to his men, and Saul went back home.
Et Saül dit à David: "Béni es-tu, mon fils David! Quoi que tu entreprennes, tu réussiras." David continua son chemin, et Saül retourna à sa demeure.
