1 Kings 19
1 When Ahab got home, he told [his wife] Jezebel what Elijah had done. He told her that Elijah had killed all the prophets of Baal.
೧ಎಲೀಯನು ಬಾಳನ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕತ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಸಂಹರಿಸಿದ್ದನ್ನೂ ಮತ್ತು ಅವನು ಮಾಡಿದ ಬೇರೆ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳನ್ನೂ ಅಹಾಬನು ಈಜೆಬೆಲಳಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿಸಿದನು.
2 So Jezebel sent this message to Elijah: “By this time tomorrow I will have [killed] you, just like you [killed all those prophets of Baal]. If I do not do that, I hope the gods will kill me.”
೨ಈಜೆಬೆಲಳು ಎಲೀಯನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ದೂತರನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸಿ ಅವನಿಗೆ, “ನೀನು ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳ ಪ್ರಾಣವನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದಂತೆ ನಾಳೆ ಇಷ್ಟು ಹೊತ್ತಿಗೆ ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣವನ್ನು ತೆಗೆಯದೇ ಹೋದರೆ ದೇವತೆಗಳು ನನಗೆ ಬೇಕಾದದ್ದನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲಿ” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿಕಳುಹಿಸಿದಳು.
3 When Elijah received [her message], he was afraid. So [taking his servant with him], he fled in order that he would not be killed. He went [far south] to Beersheba, in Judah. He left his servant there.
೩ಅವನು ಇದನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದೊಡನೆ ತನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣ ರಕ್ಷಣೆಗಾಗಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಹೊರಟು ಯೆಹೂದದ ಬೇರ್ಷೆಬಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಸೇವಕನನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟನು.
4 Then he went by himself further [south] into the desert. He walked all day. He sat down under a broom tree and prayed that [Yahweh] would allow him to die. He said, “Yahweh, I’ve had enough. So allow me to die, because for me to live is no better than [being with] my ancestors [who have died].”
೪ತರುವಾಯ ತಾನೊಬ್ಬನೇ ಅರಣ್ಯದೊಳಗೆ ಒಂದು ದಿನದ ಪ್ರಯಾಣದಷ್ಟು ದೂರ ಹೋಗಿ ಒಂದು ಜಾಲೀ ಗಿಡದ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಕುಳಿತುಕೊಂಡು ಮರಣವನ್ನು ಅಪೇಕ್ಷಿಸಿದನು. ಅವನು, “ಯೆಹೋವನೇ ನನಗೆ ಸಾಕಾಯಿತು, ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣವನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಬಿಡು. ನಾನು ನನ್ನ ಪೂರ್ವಿಕರಿಗಿಂತ ಉತ್ತಮನಲ್ಲ” ಎಂದು ದೇವರನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸಿ ಅದೇ ಗಿಡದ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಮಲಗಿಕೊಂಡು ನಿದ್ರೆ ಮಾಡಿದನು.
5 Then he lay down under the broom tree and slept. But while he was sleeping, an angel touched him and [woke him up and] said to him, “Get up and eat some food!”
೫ಪಕ್ಕನೆ ಒಬ್ಬ ದೇವದೂತನು ಅವನನ್ನು ತಟ್ಟಿ, “ಎದ್ದು ಊಟ ಮಾಡು” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದನು.
6 Elijah looked around and saw some bread which had been baked on hot stones, and he also saw a jar of water. So he ate some bread and drank some water and lay down [to sleep] again.
೬ಎಲೀಯನು ಎದ್ದು ನೋಡಲಾಗಿ ಕೆಂಡದ ಮೇಲೆ ಸುಟ್ಟ ರೊಟ್ಟಿಯೂ ಒಂದು ತಂಬಿಗೆ ನೀರು ತನ್ನ ತಲೆಯ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಇರುವುದನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ತಿಂದು, ಕುಡಿದು ತಿರುಗಿ ಮಲಗಿದನು.
7 Then the angel [who had been sent by] Yahweh came again and touched him, and said, “Get up and eat some [more] food, because you need [more strength] to go on a long journey.”
೭ಯೆಹೋವನ ದೂತನು ಎರಡನೆಯ ಸಾರಿ ಬಂದು ಅವನನ್ನು ತಟ್ಟಿ ಅವನಿಗೆ, “ಎದ್ದು ಊಟ ಮಾಡು, ನೀನು ನಿನ್ನ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಮೀರುವಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರಯಾಣಮಾಡಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ” ಎಂದನು.
8 So he got up and ate and drank some more, and because of doing that, he got enough strength to enable him to travel for forty days and nights to Sinai Mountain, the mountain [that was dedicated to] God.
೮ಅವನು ಎದ್ದು ತಿಂದು, ಕುಡಿದು ಅದರ ಬಲದಿಂದ ನಲ್ವತ್ತು ದಿನ ಹಗಲಿರುಳು ಪ್ರಯಾಣ ಮಾಡಿ ದೇವಗಿರಿಯಾದ
9 He went into a cave there and slept there that night. [The next morning, ] Yahweh said to him “Elijah, why are you here?”
೯ಹೋರೇಬಿಗೆ ತಲುಪಿ, ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಒಂದು ಗವಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇಳಿದುಕೊಂಡನು. ಆಗ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಯೆಹೋವನಿಂದ, “ಎಲೀಯನೇ ನೀನು ಇಲ್ಲೇನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತೀ?” ಎಂಬ ವಾಣಿಯು ಕೇಳಿಸಿತು.
10 Elijah replied, “I have zealously served you, Yahweh, God Almighty. But the Israeli people have broken the agreement that they made with you. They have torn down your altars, and they have killed all of your prophets. I am the only one whom they have not killed, and now they are trying to kill me, too. [So I am running away from them].”
೧೦ಅವನು ಅದಕ್ಕೆ, “ಸೇನಾಧೀಶ್ವರನಾದ ದೇವರೇ, ಯೆಹೋವನೇ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರು ನಿನ್ನ ನಿಬಂಧನೆಯನ್ನು ಮೀರಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಯಜ್ಞವೇದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕೆಡವಿಹಾಕಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕತ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಸಂಹರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ನಾನೊಬ್ಬನೇ ಉಳಿದು ನಿನ್ನ ಗೌರವವನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಆಸಕ್ತನಾಗಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಆದರೆ ಅವರು ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣವನ್ನೂ ತೆಗೆಯಬೇಕೆಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ” ಎಂದು ಉತ್ತರಕೊಟ್ಟನು.
11 Yahweh said to him, “Go out and stand in front of me on this mountain while I pass by.” [Suddenly] a strong windstorm struck the mountain. As a result, rocks were loosened from the mountainside. But Yahweh was not in the wind. Then there was an earthquake, but Yahweh was not in the earthquake.
೧೧ಆಗ ಪುನಃ, “ನೀನು ಹೊರಗೆ ಬಂದು ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಮೇಲೆ ಯೆಹೋವನ ಮುಂದೆ ನಿಲ್ಲು” ಎಂಬ ವಾಣಿಯಾಯಿತು. ಆಹಾ ಯೆಹೋವನು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾದು ಹೋದನು. ಆತನ ಮುಂದೆ ಪರ್ವತಗಳು ಭೇದಿಸಿ ಬಂಡೆಗಳನ್ನು ಪುಡಿ ಪುಡಿಮಾಡುವಂಥ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಬಿರುಗಾಳಿಯು ಬೀಸಿತು. ಯೆಹೋವನು ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ತರುವಾಯ ಭೂಕಂಪವಾಯಿತು, ಅದರಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಆತನಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ.
12 Then there was a fire, but Yahweh was not in the fire. Then there was a sound like someone whispering quietly.
೧೨ಭೂಕಂಪವಾದ ನಂತರ ಸಿಡಿಲುಂಟಾಯಿತು, ಅದರಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಯೆಹೋವನಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಕಡೆಗೆ ನಯವಾದ ಮೃದು ಸ್ವರವೊಂದು ಕೇಳಿಸಿತು,
13 When Elijah heard that, he wrapped his cloak around his face. He went out of the cave and stood at its entrance. And he heard Yahweh speaking to him, saying again, “Elijah, why are you here?”
೧೩ಅದನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದ ಕೂಡಲೆ ಎಲೀಯನು ತನ್ನ ಕಂಬಳಿಯಿಂದ ಮೋರೆಯನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗಿ ಗವಿಯ ದ್ವಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂತನು. ಆಗ, “ಎಲೀಯನೇ ನೀನು ಇಲ್ಲೇನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತೀ?” ಎಂಬ ವಾಣಿಯು ಕೇಳಿಸಿತು.
14 He replied again, “I have zealously served you, Yahweh, God Almighty. But the Israeli people have broken the agreement that they made with you. They have torn down your altars, and they have killed all of your prophets. I am the only one whom they have not killed, and now they are trying to kill me, too. [So I am running away from them].”
೧೪ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಅವನು, “ಸೇನಾಧೀಶ್ವರನಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನೇ, ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರು ನಿನ್ನ ನಿಬಂಧನೆಯನ್ನು ಮೀರಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ಯಜ್ಞವೇದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕೆಡವಿಹಾಕಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕತ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಸಂಹರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ನಾನೊಬ್ಬನೇ ಉಳಿದು ನಿನ್ನ ಗೌರವವನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಆಸಕ್ತನಾಗಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಆದರೆ ಅವರು ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣವನ್ನೂ ತೆಗೆಯಬೇಕೆಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ” ಎಂದು ಉತ್ತರಕೊಟ್ಟನು.
15 Then Yahweh told him, “Go back to the desert near Damascus. When you arrive there, anoint [with olive oil] a man named Hazael, [to appoint him] to be the king of Syria.
೧೫ಆಗ ಯೆಹೋವನು ಅವನಿಗೆ, “ನೀನು ಬಂದ ದಾರಿಯಿಂದ ಹಿಂದಿರುಗಿ ದಮಸ್ಕದ ಅರಣ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗು, ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಪಟ್ಟಣದೊಳಗೆ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಿ ಹಜಾಯೇಲನನ್ನು ಅರಾಮ್ಯರ ಅರಸನನ್ನಾಗಿ ಅಭಿಷೇಕಿಸು.
16 Then anoint Jehu, the son of Nimshi, to be the king of Israel, and also anoint Elisha the son of Shaphat, from Abel-Meholah [town], to become my prophet after you are dead.
೧೬ನಿಂಷಿಯ ಮಗನಾದ ಯೇಹುವನ್ನು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರ ಅರಸನನ್ನಾಗಿಯೂ, ಆಬೇಲ್ ಮೆಹೋಲದವನೂ ಶಾಫಾಟನ ಮಗನೂ ಆದ ಎಲೀಷನನ್ನು ನಿನಗೆ ಬದಲಾಗಿ ಪ್ರವಾದಿಯನ್ನಾಗಿಯೂ ಅಭಿಷೇಕಿಸು.
17 Hazael’s army [will kill many people, and] those who escape from [being killed by] his army will be killed by Jehu’s [army], and those who escape from [being killed by] Jehu’s army will be killed by Elisha.
೧೭ಹಜಾಯೇಲನ ಕತ್ತಿಗೆ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡವರನ್ನು ಯೇಹುವು ಕೊಲ್ಲುವನು. ಅವನ ಕತ್ತಿಗೆ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡವರನ್ನು ಎಲೀಷನು ಕೊಲ್ಲುವನು.
18 But [you need to know that] there are still 7,000 people in Israel who have never bowed to [worship] Baal or kissed his [idol].”
೧೮ಆದರೆ ಬಾಳನ ವಿಗ್ರಹಕ್ಕೆ ಅಡ್ಡಬೀಳದೆಯೂ, ಅದನ್ನು ಮುದ್ದಿಡದೆಯೂ ಇರುವ ಏಳು ಸಾವಿರ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸುವೆನು” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದನು.
19 So Elijah went [to Syria] and found Elisha as he was plowing a field with a team of oxen. There were eleven other men who were in front of him, plowing with teams of oxen in the same field. Elijah went to Elisha, and took off his own coat and put it on Elisha, [to show Elisha that he wanted him to take his place as a prophet. Then he started to walk away].
೧೯ಎಲೀಯನು ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಹೊರಟುಹೋಗಿ ಶಾಫಾಟನ ಮಗನಾದ ಎಲೀಷನನ್ನು ಕಂಡನು. ಅವನು ಹೊಲವನ್ನು ಉಳುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಹನ್ನೆರಡು ಜೋಡಿ ಎತ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ತಂದು ಹನ್ನೆರಡನೆ ಜೋಡಿಯಿಂದ ತಾನಾಗಿಯೇ ಹೊಲವನ್ನು ಉಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದನು. ಎಲೀಯನು ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಹಾದುಹೋಗುವಾಗ ತನ್ನ ಕಂಬಳಿಯನ್ನು ಅವನ ಮೇಲೆ ಹಾಕಿದನು.
20 Elisha left the oxen standing there and ran after Elijah, and said to him, “I will go with you, but first let me kiss my parents goodbye.” Elijah replied, “Okay, go home. But do not forget why I have [given my cloak] to you!”
೨೦ಕೂಡಲೇ ಅವನು ಎತ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಓಡುತ್ತಾ ಬಂದು ಎಲೀಯನಿಗೆ, “ನನ್ನ ತಂದೆತಾಯಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮುದ್ದಿಟ್ಟು ಬರುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಅಪ್ಪಣೆಯಾಗಲಿ, ಅನಂತರ ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಹಿಂಬಾಲಿಸುವೆನು” ಅಂದನು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಎಲೀಯನು “ಹೋಗು ನಾನು ನಿನಗೆ ಮಾಡಿರುವುದನ್ನು ಮರೆಯಬೇಡ?” ಎಂದು ಉತ್ತರಕೊಟ್ಟನು.
21 So Elisha went back [to his oxen]. He killed them [and cut them in pieces] and used the wood from the plow to build a fire to roast the meat. He distributed the meat to the other people [in his town], and they all ate some. Then he went with Elijah and became his helper.
೨೧ಎಲೀಷನು ಹಿಂದಿರುಗಿ ಹೋಗಿ ತಾನು ಉಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಜೋಡಿ ಎತ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ವಧಿಸಿ ಮಾಂಸವನ್ನು ರಂಟೆಯ ಕಟ್ಟಿಗೆಯಿಂದ ಬೇಯಿಸಿ, ಜನರಿಗೆ ಔತಣಮಾಡಿಸಿದನು. ಅನಂತರ ಅವನು ಎದ್ದು ಎಲೀಯನನ್ನು ಹಿಂಬಾಲಿಸಿ ಅವನ ಸೇವಕನಾದನು.
