1 [The first person God created was Adam]. Adam’s [son was] Seth. [Seth’s son was] Enosh. [Enosh’s son was] Kenan.
Adam, Seth, Enos,
2 [Kenan’s son was] Mahalalel. [Mahalalel’s son was] Jared. [Jared’s son was] Enoch.
Cainan, Malaleel, Jared,
3 [Enoch’s son was] Methuselah. [Methusalah’s son was] Lamech. [Lamech’s son was] Noah.
Henoc, Mathusale, Lamech,
4 [Noah’s sons were] Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
Noe, Sem, Cham, and Japheth.
5 The sons (OR, descendants) of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
The sons of Japheth: Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, Thubal, Mosoch, Thiras.
6 The sons (OR, descendants) of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
And the sons of Gomer: Ascenez, and Riphath, and Thogorma.
7 The descendants of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.
And the sons of Javan: Elisa and Tharsis, Cethim and Dodanim.
8 The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim (OR, Egypt), Put, and Canaan.
The sons of Cham: Chus, and Mesrai, and Phut, and Chaanan.
9 The descendants of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons (OR, descendants) of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.
And the sons of Chus: Saba, and Hevila, Sabatha, and Regma, and Sabathaca. And the sons of Regma: Saba, and Dadan.
10 Another descendant of Cush was Nimrod. When he grew up, he became a mighty warrior on the earth.
Now Chus begot Nemrod: he began to be mighty upon earth.
11 Mizraim (OR, Egypt) was the ancestor of the Lud people-group, the Anam people-group, the Lehab people-group, the Naphtuh people-group,
But Mesraim begot Ludim, and Anamim, and Laabim, and Nephtuim,
12 the Pathrus people-group, the Casluh people-group, and the Caphtor people-group. The people of [the] Philistia [region] were descended from the Casluh people-group.
Phetrusim also, and Casluim: from whom came the Philistines, and Caphtorim.
13 Canaan’s first son was Sidon. He was also the ancestor of the Heth people-group,
And Chanaan beget Sidon his firstborn, and the Hethite,
14 the Jebus people-group, the Amor people-group, the Girgash people-group,
And the Jebusite, and the Amorrhite, and the Gergesite,
15 the Hiv people-group, the Ark people-group, the Sin people-group,
And the Hevite, and the Aracite, and the Sinite,
16 the Arvad people-group, the Zemar people-group, and the Hamath people-group.
And the Aradian, and the Samarite, and the Hamathite.
17 The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram. Aram’s sons were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech.
The sons of Sem: Elam and Asur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram, and Hus, and Hul, and Gether, and Mosoch.
18 Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, who was the father of Eber.
And Arphaxad beget Sale, and Sale beget Heber.
19 Eber had two sons. One was named Peleg [which sounds like the word that means ‘divided’] because during the time that he lived, [the people on] the earth were divided [into various language groups]. Peleg’s [younger] brother was Joktan.
And to Heber were born two sons, the name of the one was Phaleg, because In his days the earth was divided; and the name of his brother was Jectan.
20 Joktan was the ancestor of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
And Jectan beget Elmodad, and Saleph, and Asarmoth, and Jare,
21 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
And Adoram, and Usal, and Decla,
22 Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
And Hebal, and Abimael, and Saba,
23 Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab.
And Ophir, and Hevila, and Jobab. All these are the sons of Jectan.
24 The descendants of Shem, [in order from him to Abraham], were Arphaxad, Shelah,
Sem, Arphaxad, Sale,
25 Eber, Peleg, Reu,
Heber, Phaleg, Ragau,
26 Serug, Nahor, Terah,
Serug, Nachor, Thare,
27 and Abram, whose [name was later changed to] Abraham.
Abram, this is Abraham.
28 Abraham’s sons were Isaac and Ishmael.
And the sons of Abraham, Isaac and Ismahel.
29 [The son of Abraham’s slave wife Hagar was Ishmael.] Ishmael’s [twelve] sons were Nebaioth, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,
And these are the generations of them. The firstborn of Ismahel, Nabajoth, then Cedar, and Adbeel, and Mabsam,
30 Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema,
And Masma, and Duma, Massa, Hadad, and Thema,
31 Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.
Jetur, Naphis, Cedma: these are the sons of Ismahel.
32 [After]’s [wife Sarah died, he took another wife named] Keturah. The sons of Abraham and Keturah were Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. Jokshan’s sons were Sheba and Dedan.
And the sons of Cetura, Abraham’s concubine, whom she bore: Zamran, Jecsan, Madan, Madian, Jesboc, and Sue. And the sons of Jecsan, Saba, and Dadan. And the sons of Dadan: Assurim, and Latussim, and Laomin.
33 Midian’s sons were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah.
And the sons of Madian: Epha, and Epher, and Henoch, and Abida, and Eldaa. All these are the sons of Cetura.
34 The son of Abraham [and his wife Sarah] was Isaac, and Isaac’s sons were Esau and [Jacob, whose name was later changed to] Israel.
And Abraham beget Isaac: and his sons were Esau and Israel.
35 The sons of Esau were Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.
The sons of Esau: Eliphaz, Rahuel, Jehus, Ihelom, and Core.
36 The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho (OR, Zephi), Gatam, Kenaz, Timna, and Amalek.
The sons of Eliphaz: Theman, Omar, Sephi, Gathan, Cenez, and by Thamna, Amalec.
37 Reuel’s sons were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.
The sons of Rahuel: Nahath, Zara, Samma, Meza.
38 [Another descendant of Esau was Seir. His descendants lived in the Edom region]. Seir’s sons were Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan.
The sons of Seir: Lotan. Sobal, Sebeen, Ana, Dison, Eser, Disan.
39 Lotan’s sons were Hori and Homam, and Lotan’s sister was Timna.
The sons of Lotan: Hori, Homam. And the sister of Lotan was Thamna.
40 Shobal’s sons were Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. Zibeon’s sons were Aiah and Anah.
The sons of Sobal: Alian, and Manahath, and Ebal, Sephi and Onam. The sons of Sebeon: Aia, and Ana. The son of Ana: Dison.
41 Anah’s son was Dishon. 1 Dishon’s sons were Hemdan (OR, Hamran), Eshban, Ithran, and Keran.
The sons of Dison: Hamram, and Eseban, and Jethran, and Charan.
42 Ezer’s sons were Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan (OR, Jaakan). Dishan’s sons were Uz and Aran.
The sons of Eser: Balaan, and Zavan, and Jacan. The sons of Disan: Hus and Aran.
43 [These are the names of] the kings that ruled [the] Edom [region] before any kings ruled over Israel: Bela, the son of Beor, was king in Edom, and the name of the city [in which he lived] was Dinhabah.
Now these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom, before there was a king over the children of Israel: Bale the son of Beer: and the name of his city was Denaba.
44 When Bela died, Jobab, the son of Zerah from Bozrah [city], became the king.
And Bale died, and Jobab the son of Zare of Bosra, reigned in his stead.
45 When Jobab died, Husham became the king. He was from the region where the Teman people-group lived.
And when Jobab also was dead, Husam of the land of the Themanites reigned in his stead.
46 When Husham died, Hadad, the son of Bedad, became the king. He [ruled in] Avith city. Hadad’s [army] defeated [the army of the] Midian [people-group] in [the] Moab [region].
And Husam also died, and Adad the son of Badad reigned in his stead, and he defeated the Madianites in the land of Moab: and the name of his city was Avith.
47 When Hadad died, Samlah became the king. He was from Masrekah [town].
And when Adad also was dead, Semla of Masreca reigned in his stead.
48 When Samlah died, Shaul became the king. He was from Rehoboth [city] along the [Euphrates] river.
Semla also died, and Saul of Rohoboth, which is near the river, reigned in his stead.
49 When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan, the son of Achbor, became the king.
And when Saul was dead, Balanan the son of Achobor reigned in his stead.
50 When Baal-Hanan died, Hadad became the king. He was from Pau city. His wife’s name was Mehetabel; she was the daughter of Matred and the granddaughter of Me-Zahab.
He also died, and Adad reigned in his stead: and the name of his city was Phau, and his wife was called Meetabel the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezaab.
51 Then Hadad died. The leaders of the clans of the Edom people-group were Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,
And after the death of Adad, there began to be dukes in Edom instead of kings: duke Thamna, duke Alva, duke Jetheth,
52 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,
Duke Oolibama, duke Ela, duke Phinon,
53 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,
Duke Cenez, duke Theman, duke Mabsar,
54 Magdiel, and Iram.
Duke Magdiel, duke Hiram. These are the dukes of Edom.
