< 1 Chronicles 15 >
1 David [commanded his workers to] build some houses for him in Jerusalem. He also told them to set up a tent in which to put the Sacred Chest.
and to make to/for him house: home in/on/with city David and to establish: prepare place to/for ark [the] God and to stretch to/for him tent
2 He said, “Only the descendants of Levi are permitted to carry God’s Sacred Chest, because they are the ones whom God chose to carry it and to serve him forever.”
then to say David not to/for to lift: bear [obj] ark [the] God that if: except if: except [the] Levi for in/on/with them to choose LORD to/for to lift: bear [obj] ark LORD and to/for to minister him till forever: enduring
3 David summoned all the people of Israel to come to Jerusalem. He wanted the Sacred Chest of Yahweh to be put in the place that he had made for it.
and to gather David [obj] all Israel to(wards) Jerusalem to/for to ascend: establish [obj] ark LORD to(wards) place his which to establish: prepare to/for him
4 He summoned the descendants of Aaron, [who was the first Supreme Priest, ] and the other descendants of Levi.
and to gather David [obj] son: descendant/people Aaron and [obj] [the] Levi
5 120 descendants of Kohath, who was Levi’s second son, came, with Uriel their leader.
to/for son: descendant/people Kohath Uriel [the] ruler and brother: male-relative his hundred and twenty
6 There were 220 descendants of Merari, Levi’s third son, who came, with Asaiah their leader.
to/for son: descendant/people Merari Asaiah [the] ruler and brother: male-relative his hundred and twenty
7 There were 130 descendants of Gershon, Levi’s first son, who came, with Joel their leader.
to/for son: descendant/people Gershon Joel [the] ruler and brother: male-relative his hundred and thirty
8 There were 200 people from Elizaphan’s clan who came, with Shemaiah their leader.
to/for son: descendant/people Elizaphan Shemaiah [the] ruler and brother: male-relative his hundred
9 There were 80 people from Hebron’s clan who came, with Eliel their leader.
to/for son: descendant/people Hebron Eliel [the] ruler and brother: male-relative his eighty
10 And there were 112 people from Uzziel’s clan who came, with Amminadab their leader.
to/for son: descendant/people Uzziel Amminadab [the] ruler and brother: male-relative his hundred and two ten
11 David summoned the priests Zadok and Abiathar and these [other] descendants of Levi: Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab.
and to call: call to David to/for Zadok and to/for Abiathar [the] priest and to/for Levi to/for Uriel Asaiah and Joel Shemaiah and Eliel and Amminadab
12 David said to them, “You are the leaders of the clans descended from Levi. You and the other descendants of Levi must purify yourselves, in order to [be able to do this special work for Yahweh. You must] bring the Sacred Chest of Yahweh, the God of us Israelis, up to the place that I have made for it [here in Jerusalem].
and to say to/for them you(m. p.) head: leader [the] father to/for Levi to consecrate: consecate you(m. p.) and brother: male-relative your and to ascend: establish [obj] ark LORD God Israel to(wards) to establish: prepare to/for him
13 The first time that we tried to bring it, we did not ask Yahweh how we should carry it {it should be carried}. You [descendants of Levi] were not the ones who carried it, so Yahweh our God punished us.”
for to/for what? in/on/with first not you(m. p.) to break through LORD God our in/on/with us for not to seek him like/as justice: judgement
14 Then the priests and the [other] descendants of Levi [performed the rituals to] purify themselves, in order that it would be proper for them to do the work of carrying the Sacred Chest of Yahweh, the God of us Israeli people.
and to consecrate: consecate [the] priest and [the] Levi to/for to ascend: establish [obj] ark LORD God Israel
15 The descendants of Levi [inserted] the poles [into the rings on] the Sacred Chest so that with them, they could carry the Sacred Chest on their shoulders, like Moses had commanded, and like Yahweh had said that they should.
and to lift: bear son: descendant/people [the] Levi [obj] ark [the] God like/as as which to command Moses like/as word LORD in/on/with shoulder their in/on/with yoke upon them
16 David told the leaders of the descendants of Levi to appoint some of their relatives to sing joyful songs and play lyres, harps, and cymbals [while they were carrying the Sacred Chest].
and to say David to/for ruler [the] Levi to/for to stand: appoint [obj] brother: male-relative their [the] to sing in/on/with article/utensil song harp and lyre and cymbal to hear: proclaim to/for to exalt in/on/with voice: sound to/for joy
17 So they appointed Heman and his relatives Asaph and Ethan. Heman was the son of Joel; Asaph was the son of Berekiah. Ethan, a descendant of Merari, was Kushaiah’s son.
and to stand: appoint [the] Levi [obj] Heman son: child Joel and from brother: male-relative his Asaph son: child Berechiah and from son: child Merari brother: male-relative their Ethan son: child Kushaiah
18 There was also another group of descendants of Levi who were appointed: Zechariah, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, and two of the Sacred Tent gatekeepers, Obed-Edom and Jeiel.
and with them brother: male-relative their [the] second Zechariah Ben and Jaaziel and Shemiramoth and Jehiel and Unni Eliab and Benaiah and Maaseiah and Mattithiah and Eliphelehu and Mikneiah and Obed-edom Obed-edom and Jeiel [the] gatekeeper
19 Heman, Asaph and Ethan sang, and also played bronze cymbals.
and [the] to sing Heman Asaph and Ethan in/on/with cymbal bronze to/for to hear: proclaim
20 Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah played lyres.
and Zechariah and Aziel and Shemiramoth and Jehiel and Unni and Eliab and Maaseiah and Benaiah in/on/with harp upon Alamoth
21 Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, Jeiel and Azaziah played harps.
and Mattithiah and Eliphelehu and Mikneiah and Obed-edom Obed-edom and Jeiel and Azaziah in/on/with lyre upon [the] Sheminith to/for to conduct
22 Kenaniah, the leader of the descendants of Levi, directed the singing because he was very skilled at doing that.
and Chenaniah ruler [the] Levi in/on/with burden to discipline in/on/with burden for to understand he/she/it
23 Berekiah and Elkanah were two of the men who guarded the Sacred Chest.
and Berechiah and Elkanah gatekeeper to/for ark
24 The priests Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer were appointed to blow trumpets in front of the Sacred Chest. Obed-Edom and Jehiah also guarded the Sacred Chest.
and Shebaniah and Joshaphat and Nethanel and Amasai and Zechariah and Benaiah and Eliezer [the] priest (to blow *Q(k)*) in/on/with trumpet to/for face: before ark [the] God and Obed-edom Obed-edom and Jehiah gatekeeper to/for ark
25 David and the Israeli leaders and the officers who commanded 1,000 soldiers went to bring the Sacred Chest back from Obed-Edom’s house. They were very joyful as they brought it to Jerusalem.
and to be David and old: elder Israel and ruler [the] thousand [the] to go: went to/for to ascend: establish [obj] ark covenant LORD from house: home Obed-edom Obed-edom in/on/with joy
26 God helped the descendants of Levi who carried the Sacred Chest of Yahweh; therefore David and the leaders sacrificed seven bulls and seven (rams/male sheep) [to thank him].
and to be in/on/with to help [the] God [obj] [the] Levi to lift: bear ark covenant LORD and to sacrifice seven bullock and seven ram
27 All the descendants of Levi who carried the Sacred Chest, all the singers, and Kenaniah, the man who directed those who sang, wore robes of fine white linen and sacred vests made of fine linen. David also wore a sacred vest made of white linen.
and David be clothed in/on/with robe fine linen and all [the] Levi [the] to lift: bear [obj] [the] ark and [the] to sing and Chenaniah [the] ruler [the] burden [the] to sing and upon David ephod linen
28 So all of the Israeli people joined in bringing the Sacred Chest up [to Jerusalem]. They shouted [joyfully, while the musicians] blew horns and trumpets, and played cymbals, lyres, and harps.
and all Israel to ascend: establish [obj] ark covenant LORD in/on/with shout and in/on/with voice: sound trumpet and in/on/with trumpet and in/on/with cymbal to hear: proclaim in/on/with harp and lyre
29 While they were bringing the Sacred Chest into Jerusalem, Saul’s daughter Michal watched them, looking out of a window. When she saw King David dancing and celebrating, she despised him.
and to be ark covenant LORD to come (in): come till city David and Michal daughter Saul to look about/through/for [the] window and to see: see [obj] [the] king David to skip about and to laugh and to despise to/for him in/on/with heart her
