1 [The first person God created was Adam]. Adam’s [son was] Seth. [Seth’s son was] Enosh. [Enosh’s son was] Kenan.

2 [Kenan’s son was] Mahalalel. [Mahalalel’s son was] Jared. [Jared’s son was] Enoch.
Kenan, Mahalaleel, Jered,
3 [Enoch’s son was] Methuselah. [Methusalah’s son was] Lamech. [Lamech’s son was] Noah.
Henoch, Methuselah, Lamech,
4 [Noah’s sons were] Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
5 The sons (OR, descendants) of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
Sons of Japheth: Gomer and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.
6 The sons (OR, descendants) of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
And sons of Gomer: Ashchenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.
7 The descendants of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.
And sons of Javan: Elisha, and Tarshishah, Kittim, and Dodanim.
8 The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim (OR, Egypt), Put, and Canaan.
Sons of Ham: Cush, and Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.
9 The descendants of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons (OR, descendants) of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.
And sons of Cush: Seba and Havilah, and Sabta, and Raamah, and Sabtecka. And sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.
10 Another descendant of Cush was Nimrod. When he grew up, he became a mighty warrior on the earth.
And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the land.
11 Mizraim (OR, Egypt) was the ancestor of the Lud people-group, the Anam people-group, the Lehab people-group, the Naphtuh people-group,
And Mizraim begat the Ludim, and the Anamim, and the Lehabim, and the Naphtuhim,
12 the Pathrus people-group, the Casluh people-group, and the Caphtor people-group. The people of [the] Philistia [region] were descended from the Casluh people-group.
and the Pathrusim, and the Casluhim (from whom came out the Philistim), and the Caphtorim.
13 Canaan’s first son was Sidon. He was also the ancestor of the Heth people-group,
And Canaan begat Zidon his first born, and Heth,
14 the Jebus people-group, the Amor people-group, the Girgash people-group,
and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgashite,
15 the Hiv people-group, the Ark people-group, the Sin people-group,
and the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite,
16 the Arvad people-group, the Zemar people-group, and the Hamath people-group.

17 The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram. Aram’s sons were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech.

18 Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, who was the father of Eber.
And Arphaxad begat Shelah, and Shelah begat Eber.
19 Eber had two sons. One was named Peleg [which sounds like the word that means ‘divided’] because during the time that he lived, [the people on] the earth were divided [into various language groups]. Peleg’s [younger] brother was Joktan.
And to Eber have been born two sons, the name of the one [is] Peleg, for in his days hath the land been divided, and the name of his brother is Joktan.
20 Joktan was the ancestor of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
And Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah,
21 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
and Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah,
22 Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
and Ebal, and Abimael, and Sheba,
23 Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab.
and Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab; all these [are] sons of Joktan.
24 The descendants of Shem, [in order from him to Abraham], were Arphaxad, Shelah,

25 Eber, Peleg, Reu,

26 Serug, Nahor, Terah,

27 and Abram, whose [name was later changed to] Abraham.
Abram — he [is] Abraham.
28 Abraham’s sons were Isaac and Ishmael.
Sons of Abraham: Isaac and Ishmael.
29 [The son of Abraham’s slave wife Hagar was Ishmael.] Ishmael’s [twelve] sons were Nebaioth, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,
These [are] their generations: first-born of Ishmael, Nebaioth, and Kedar, and Adheel, and Mibsam,
30 Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema,
Mishma, and Dumah, Massa, Hadad, and Tema,
31 Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.
Jetur, Naphish, and Kedema. These are sons of Ishmael.
32 [After]’s [wife Sarah died, he took another wife named] Keturah. The sons of Abraham and Keturah were Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. Jokshan’s sons were Sheba and Dedan.
And sons of Keturah, Abraham's concubine: she bare Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah. And sons of Jokshan: Sheba and Dedan.
33 Midian’s sons were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah.
And sons of Midian: Ephah and Epher, and Henoch, and Abida, and Eldaah; all these [are] sons of Keturah.
34 The son of Abraham [and his wife Sarah] was Isaac, and Isaac’s sons were Esau and [Jacob, whose name was later changed to] Israel.
And Abraham begetteth Isaac. Sons of Isaac: Esau and Israel.
35 The sons of Esau were Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.
Sons of Esau: Eliphaz, Reuel, and Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah.
36 The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho (OR, Zephi), Gatam, Kenaz, Timna, and Amalek.
Sons of Eliphaz: Teman, and Omar, Zephi, and Gatam, Kenaz, and Timna, and Amalek.
37 Reuel’s sons were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.
Sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.
38 [Another descendant of Esau was Seir. His descendants lived in the Edom region]. Seir’s sons were Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan.
And sons of Seir: Lotan, and Shobal, and Zibeon, and Anah, and Dishon, and Ezar, and Dishan.
39 Lotan’s sons were Hori and Homam, and Lotan’s sister was Timna.
And sons of Lotan: Hori and Homam, and sister of Lotan [is] Timna.
40 Shobal’s sons were Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. Zibeon’s sons were Aiah and Anah.
Sons of Shobal: Alian, and Manahath, and Ebal, Shephi, and Onam. And sons of Zideon: Aiah and Anah.
41 Anah’s son was Dishon. 1 Dishon’s sons were Hemdan (OR, Hamran), Eshban, Ithran, and Keran.
The sons of Anah: Dishon. and sons of Dishon: Amram, and Eshban, and Ithran, and Cheran.
42 Ezer’s sons were Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan (OR, Jaakan). Dishan’s sons were Uz and Aran.
Sons of Ezer: Bilhan, and Zavan, Jakan. Sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran.
43 [These are the names of] the kings that ruled [the] Edom [region] before any kings ruled over Israel: Bela, the son of Beor, was king in Edom, and the name of the city [in which he lived] was Dinhabah.
And these [are] the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before the reigning of a king of the sons of Israel: Bela son of Beor, and the name of his city [is] Dinhabah.
44 When Bela died, Jobab, the son of Zerah from Bozrah [city], became the king.
And Bela dieth, and reign in his stead doth Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrali;
45 When Jobab died, Husham became the king. He was from the region where the Teman people-group lived.
and Jobab dieth, and reign in his stead doth Husham from the land of the Temanite;
46 When Husham died, Hadad, the son of Bedad, became the king. He [ruled in] Avith city. Hadad’s [army] defeated [the army of the] Midian [people-group] in [the] Moab [region].
and Husham dieth, and reign in his stead doth Hadad, son of Bedad (who smiteth Midian in the field of Moab) and the name of his city [is] Avith;
47 When Hadad died, Samlah became the king. He was from Masrekah [town].
and Hadad dieth, and reign in his stead doth Samlah from Masrekah;
48 When Samlah died, Shaul became the king. He was from Rehoboth [city] along the [Euphrates] river.
and Samlah dieth, and reign in his stead doth Shaul from Rehoboth of the River;
49 When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan, the son of Achbor, became the king.
and Shaul dieth, and reign in his stead doth Baal-Hanan son of Achbor;
50 When Baal-Hanan died, Hadad became the king. He was from Pau city. His wife’s name was Mehetabel; she was the daughter of Matred and the granddaughter of Me-Zahab.
and Baal-Hanan dieth, and reign in his stead doth Hadad, and the name of his city [is] Pai, and the name of his wife [is] Mehetabel daughter of Matred, daughter of Me-Zahab; Hadad also dieth.
51 Then Hadad died. The leaders of the clans of the Edom people-group were Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,
And chiefs of Edom are: chief Timnah, chief Aliah, chief Jetheth,
52 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,
chief Aholibamah, chief Elah, chief Pinon,
53 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,
chief Kenaz, chief Teman, chief Mibzar,
54 Magdiel, and Iram.
chief Magdiel, chief Iram. These [are] chiefs of Edom.
