< Titus 2 >
1 But as for yoʋ, teach what is consistent with sound doctrine.
But do thou speak the things which become sound teaching;
2 Elderly men are to be sober-minded, dignified, sensible, and sound in faith, love, and endurance.
that aged men be sober, grave, discreet, sound in faith, in love, in patience;
3 Elderly women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderous or enslaved to much wine, but teaching what is good,
that aged women likewise be in behavior as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not enslaved to much wine, teachers of what is good,
4 so that they can admonish the young women to be loving to their husbands, loving to their children,
that they may teach the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,
5 sensible, pure, homemakers, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, so that the word of God may not be discredited.
to be discreet, chaste, workers at home, good, in subjection to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
6 In the same way, urge the younger men to be of sound mind.
The younger men likewise exhort to be sober-minded;
7 Show yoʋrself to be a model of good works in every way, and in yoʋr teaching show integrity, dignity, incorruptibility,
in all things showing thyself a pattern of good works, in teaching showing uncorruptness, gravity,
8 and sound speech that is above reproach, so that any opponent may be put to shame because he has nothing bad to say about us.
sound speech that cannot be condemned; that he that is opposed to us may be put to shame, having no evil thing to say of us.
9 Slaves are to be submissive to their own masters and well-pleasing in everything, not talking back,
Exhort bond-servants to be in subjection to their own masters, in all things to be well-pleasing to them,
10 not pilfering, but showing all good faith, so that in every way they may adorn the teaching of God our Savior.
not contradicting, not purloining, but showing all good faith; that they may adorn the teaching of God our Saviour in all things.
11 For the saving grace of God has appeared to all people,
For the grace of God, that bringeth salvation to all men, was manifested,
12 instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts and to live in a sensible, righteous, and godly manner in the present age, (aiōn )
teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in the present world; (aiōn )
13 as we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
looking for the blessed hope, and appearing of the glory of the great God and of our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14 He gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good works.
who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify to himself a people to be his own, zealous in good works.
15 Declare these things; encourage and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise yoʋ.
These things speak and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise thee.
