< Revelation 3 >
1 “To the angel of the church in Sardis write: ‘These are the words of him who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars: I know yoʋr works; yoʋ have a reputation for being alive, but yoʋ are dead.
And to the angel of the church in Sardis write, These things saith He that hath the seven spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead:
2 Be watchful and strengthen what remains, which yoʋ were about to throw away, for I have not found yoʋr works to be complete in the sight of my God.
be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die; for I have not found thy works perfect in the sight of God.
3 So remember what yoʋ have received and heard; obey it and repent. If yoʋ do not wake up, I will come upon yoʋ like a thief, and yoʋ will certainly not know at what hour I will come upon yoʋ.
Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent: for if thou be not watchful, I will come upon thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know at what hour I will come upon thee.
4 But yoʋ have a few individuals in Sardis who have not defiled their garments. They will walk with me in white, for they are worthy.
Thou hast a few names even in Sardis, which have not defiled their garments, and they shall walk with me in white; for they are worthy.
5 He who overcomes will be clothed in white garments. I will certainly not blot out his name from the book of life, but will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.
He that overcometh shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name from the book of life; but I will own his name before my Father, and before his angels.
6 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.’
Let him, that hath an ear, hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
7 “To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: ‘These are the words of him who is holy and true, who has the key of David and opens doors that no one else can open or shut:
And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, These things saith the holy One, He that is true, He that hath the key of David, He that openeth and no one shutteth, and shutteth and no one openeth:
8 I know yoʋr works. Behold, I have set before yoʋ an open door that no one can shut. I know that yoʋ have little strength, but yoʋ have kept my word and have not denied my name.
I know thy works, and behold I have given thee an open door, and no one shall be able to shut it; for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.
9 Those of the synagogue of Satan are liars. They declare themselves to be Jews but are not. Behold, I will make them come and bow down at yoʋr feet, and they will know that I love yoʋ.
Behold, I will give up those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews, and are not, but speak falsely; behold, I will make them come and bow before thy feet, and they shall know that I have loved thee.
10 Because yoʋ have kept my command to persevere, I will keep yoʋ from the hour of trial that is about to come upon the whole world to test those who dwell on the earth.
Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which is to come upon the whole world, to try those that dwell upon the earth.
11 I am coming quickly. Hold fast to what yoʋ have so that no one will take yoʋr crown.
Behold, I come quickly; hold fast what thou hast, that no one may take thy crown.
12 The one who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he will no longer go out at all. I will write on him the name of my God, the name of the city of my God (the new Jerusalem that comes down out of heaven from my God), and my new name.
Him, that overcometh, I will make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go out no more: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, (the new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God, ) and my own new name.
13 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.’
Let him, that hath an ear, hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
14 “To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: ‘These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the origin of God's creation:
And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot:
15 I know yoʋr works; yoʋ are neither cold nor hot. If only yoʋ were cold or hot!
I wish thou wert cold or hot.
16 So, because yoʋ are lukewarm, and not hot or cold, I am about to spit yoʋ out of my mouth.
So then, because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will cast thee out of my mouth:
17 For yoʋ say, “I am rich; I have become wealthy and need nothing,” but yoʋ do not realize that yoʋ are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked.
because thou sayst, I am rich, and wealthy, and have want of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.
18 I counsel yoʋ to buy from me gold refined by fire so that yoʋ may be rich, and white garments so that yoʋ may clothe yoʋrself and the shame of yoʋr nakedness may not be revealed, and eye salve to anoint yoʋr eyes so that yoʋ may see.
I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayst be rich; and white raiment that thou mayst be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness may not appear: and anoint thine eyes with eye-salve, that thou mayst see.
19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline. Therefore be zealous and repent.
Whomsoever I love, I reprove and chasten: be zealous therefore and repent.
20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with me.
Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any one hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
21 To him who overcomes I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne.
To him that overcometh I will grant to sit with me on my throne, as I also have overcome, and am set down with my Father on his throne.
22 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.’”
Let him, that hath an ear, hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
