< Matthew 4 >

1 Then Jesus was led up into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted by the devil.
Hĩndĩ ĩyo Jesũ nĩatongoririo nĩ Roho agĩtwarwo werũ-inĩ akagerio nĩ mũcukani.
2 After fasting for forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.
Na aniina mĩthenya mĩrongo ĩna, ũtukũ na mũthenya, ehingĩte kũrĩa irio-rĩ, akĩigua ahũtiĩ.
3 Then the tempter came up to him and said, “If yoʋ are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread.”
Nake mũgerania akĩmũkora, akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Angĩkorwo wee nĩwe Mũrũ wa Ngai-rĩ, ĩra mahiga maya matuĩke mĩgate.”
4 But Jesus answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Nake Jesũ akĩmũcookeria atĩrĩ, “Nĩ kwandĩkĩtwo atĩrĩ: ‘To mũgate wiki ũngĩtũũria mũndũ muoyo, no nĩ kiugo gĩothe kĩrĩa kiumaga kanua ka Ngai.’”
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city, set him on the pinnacle of the temple,
Hĩndĩ ĩyo mũcukani akĩmũtwara itũũra rĩrĩa itheru, akĩmũrũgamia gathũrũmũndũ ka hekarũ,
6 and said to him, “If yoʋ are the Son of God, throw yoʋrself down, for it is written, ‘He will command his angels concerning yoʋ,’ and, ‘In their hands they will lift yoʋ up, so that yoʋ do not strike yoʋr foot against a stone.’”
akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Angĩkorwo wee nĩwe Mũrũ wa Ngai-rĩ, wĩgũithie thĩ. Nĩgũkorwo kwandĩkĩtwo atĩrĩ: “‘Nĩagaatha araika ake nĩ ũndũ waku, nao nĩmagakwanĩrĩria na moko mao, nĩguo ndũkanahĩngwo kũgũrũ nĩ ihiga.’”
7 Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘Yoʋ shall not put the Lord yoʋr God to the test.’”
Nake Jesũ akĩmũcookeria atĩrĩ, “Ningĩ nĩ kwandĩkĩtwo atĩrĩ: ‘Ndũkanagerie Mwathani Ngai waku.’”
8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.
Ningĩ mũcukani akĩmũtwara kĩrĩma-inĩ kĩraaya mũno, akĩmuonia mothamaki mothe ma thĩ na riiri wamo.
9 And he said to him, “All these things I will give yoʋ, if yoʋ will fall down and worship me.”
Akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Maũndũ maya mothe nĩngũkũhe, ũngĩĩtĩkĩra kũnyinamĩrĩra ũũhooe.”
10 Then Jesus said to him, “Get behind me, Satan! For it is written, ‘Yoʋ shall worship the Lord yoʋr God, and him only shall yoʋ serve.’”
Nake Jesũ akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Thiĩ Shaitani ndiga! Nĩgũkorwo nĩ kwandĩkĩtwo atĩrĩ: ‘Hooyaga Mwathani Ngai waku, na ũmũtungatagĩre o we wiki.’”
11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and ministered to him.
Hĩndĩ ĩyo mũcukani akĩmũtiga, nao araika magĩũka makĩmũtungatĩra.
12 Now when Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he withdrew to Galilee.
Na rĩrĩa Jesũ aiguire atĩ Johana nĩaikĩtio njeera-rĩ, agĩthiĩ Galili.
13 And leaving Nazareth, he went and dwelt at Capernaum by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,
14 so that what had been spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:
Ũndũ ũcio wekĩkire nĩguo ũhoro ũrĩa waarĩtio na kanua ka mũnabii Isaia ũhinge, rĩrĩa oigire atĩrĩ:
15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles,
“Bũrũri wa Zebuluni, o na bũrũri wa Nafitali, njĩra ya gũthiĩ iria-inĩ, gũikũrũkania na Rũũĩ rwa Jorodani, kũu gwĩtagwo Galili-kwa-Ndũrĩrĩ:
16 the people sitting in darkness have seen a great light, and on those sitting in the region and shadow of death light has dawned.”
andũ arĩa matũũraga nduma-inĩ nĩmonete ũtheri mũnene; nao arĩa matũũraga bũrũri ũrĩ kĩĩruru gĩa gĩkuũ-rĩ, nĩmarĩirwo nĩ ũtheri.”
17 From that time Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has drawn near.”
Kuuma hĩndĩ ĩyo Jesũ akĩambĩrĩria kũhunjia ũhoro akiugaga atĩrĩ, “Mwĩrirei, nĩgũkorwo ũthamaki wa igũrũ nĩũkuhĩrĩirie.”
18 As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.
Rĩrĩa Jesũ aaceeraga hũgũrũrũ-inĩ cia Iria rĩa Galili, nĩonire andũ eerĩ a nyina ũmwe, nao nĩ Simoni ũrĩa wetagwo Petero, na mũrũ wa nyina Anderea. Maikagia neti iria-inĩ, nĩgũkorwo maarĩ ategi a thamaki.
19 Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Nake Jesũ akĩmeera atĩrĩ, “Ũkai, mũnũmĩrĩre, na nĩngũmũtua ategi a andũ.”
20 So they immediately left their nets and followed him.
Nao o rĩmwe magĩtiganĩria neti ciao, makĩmũrũmĩrĩra.
21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them.
22 So they immediately left the boat and their father and followed him.
na o rĩmwe magĩtiganĩria gatarũ na magĩtiga ithe wao, makĩmũrũmĩrĩra.
23 Then Jesus went throughout all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.
24 So the news about him went out into all of Syria, and the people brought to him all who were sick with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics. And he healed them.
25 And large crowds followed him from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.
