< Matthew 4 >

1 Then Jesus was led up into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted by the devil.
Then was Jesus led by the spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted by the devil:
2 After fasting for forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.
and when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, at last He was very hungry.
3 Then the tempter came up to him and said, “If yoʋ are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread.”
And the tempter came to Him and said, If thou art the Son of God, command these stones to become bread:
4 But Jesus answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
but He answered and said, It is written, "Man shall not live upon bread only, but on whatever proceedeth from the mouth of God."
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city, set him on the pinnacle of the temple,
Then the devil taketh Him into the holy city, and setteth Him on a wing of the temple,
6 and said to him, “If yoʋ are the Son of God, throw yoʋrself down, for it is written, ‘He will command his angels concerning yoʋ,’ and, ‘In their hands they will lift yoʋ up, so that yoʋ do not strike yoʋr foot against a stone.’”
and saith unto Him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down; for it is written, He will give his angels charge concerning thee, and they shall bear thee up as in their hands, least at any time thou shouldst dash thy foot against a stone:
7 Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘Yoʋ shall not put the Lord yoʋr God to the test.’”
but Jesus said unto him, it is also written, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.
Again the devil taketh Him to a very high mountain, and sheweth Him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And he said to him, “All these things I will give yoʋ, if yoʋ will fall down and worship me.”
and saith unto Him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me:
10 Then Jesus said to him, “Get behind me, Satan! For it is written, ‘Yoʋ shall worship the Lord yoʋr God, and him only shall yoʋ serve.’”
then Jesus saith unto him, Be gone, Satan; for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God,
11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and ministered to him.
and Him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil left Him, and behold angels came and attended Him.
12 Now when Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he withdrew to Galilee.
Now when Jesus heard that John was imprisoned, He departed into Galilee:
13 And leaving Nazareth, he went and dwelt at Capernaum by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,
and leaving Nazareth He came and dwelt in Capernaum a maritime town, on the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:
14 so that what had been spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:
that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, "The land of Zabulon,
15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles,
and Nephthalim, by the way of the sea,
16 the people sitting in darkness have seen a great light, and on those sitting in the region and shadow of death light has dawned.”
about Jordan, Galilee of the gentiles, the people that sat in darkness, saw a great light, and to them, who sat in the region and shadow of death, light is sprung up."
17 From that time Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has drawn near.”
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
18 As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.
Now as Jesus was walking by the sea of Galilee, He saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; (for they were fishermen: )
19 Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
and He saith unto them, Come with me, and I will make you fishers of men:
20 So they immediately left their nets and followed him.
and they immediately left their nets, and followed Him.
21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them.
And going on from thence He saw two other brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets;
22 So they immediately left the boat and their father and followed him.
and He called them also; and they immediately left the ship, and their father, and followed Him.
23 Then Jesus went throughout all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.
And Jesus went through all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom of heaven, and healing every disease and every malady among the people.
24 So the news about him went out into all of Syria, and the people brought to him all who were sick with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics. And he healed them.
And his fame spread abroad into all Syria; and they brought unto Him all their sick, that laboured under various diseases and torments; even those who were possessed with devils, and lunatics, and paralytics; and he healed them:
25 And large crowds followed him from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.
and great multitudes of people followed Him from Galilee, and Decapolis, and Jerusalem, and Judea, yea and from beyond Jordan.
