< Matthew 25 >
1 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.
yā daśa kanyāḥ pradīpān gr̥hlatyō varaṁ sākṣāt karttuṁ bahiritāḥ, tābhistadā svargīyarājyasya sādr̥śyaṁ bhaviṣyati|
2 Five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
tāsāṁ kanyānāṁ madhyē pañca sudhiyaḥ pañca durdhiya āsan|
3 When those who were foolish took their lamps, they did not take oil with them,
yā durdhiyastāḥ pradīpān saṅgē gr̥hītvā tailaṁ na jagr̥huḥ,
4 but the wise took oil in their flasks along with their lamps.
kintu sudhiyaḥ pradīpān pātrēṇa tailañca jagr̥huḥ|
5 When the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept.
anantaraṁ varē vilambitē tāḥ sarvvā nidrāviṣṭā nidrāṁ jagmuḥ|
6 But in the middle of the night there was a shout: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming! Come out to meet him.’
anantaram arddharātrē paśyata vara āgacchati, taṁ sākṣāt karttuṁ bahiryātēti janaravāt
7 Then all the virgins rose and trimmed their lamps.
tāḥ sarvvāḥ kanyā utthāya pradīpān āsādayituṁ ārabhanta|
8 And the foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’
tatō durdhiyaḥ sudhiya ūcuḥ, kiñcit tailaṁ datta, pradīpā asmākaṁ nirvvāṇāḥ|
9 But the wise replied, ‘No, there will not be enough for us and for you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
kintu sudhiyaḥ pratyavadan, dattē yuṣmānasmāṁśca prati tailaṁ nyūnībhavēt, tasmād vikrētr̥ṇāṁ samīpaṁ gatvā svārthaṁ tailaṁ krīṇīta|
10 But while they were on their way to buy it, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast. Then the door was shut.
tadā tāsu krētuṁ gatāsu vara ājagāma, tatō yāḥ sajjitā āsan, tāstēna sākaṁ vivāhīyaṁ vēśma praviviśuḥ|
11 Afterward the other virgins also came, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open the door for us.’

12 But he answered, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you.’
kintu sa uktavān, tathyaṁ vadāmi, yuṣmānahaṁ na vēdmi|
13 Therefore keep watch, for you do not know the day or the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.

14 “For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his possessions to them.

17 In the same way, the man who had received the two talents also earned two more.

20 The man who had received the five talents came to him and brought the other five talents, saying, ‘Master, yoʋ entrusted me with five talents; behold, I have earned five more talents besides them.’

24 Then the man who had received the one talent came to him and said, ‘Master, I knew that yoʋ were a hard man, reaping where yoʋ did not sow and gathering where yoʋ scattered no seed.

28 Therefore take the talent from him and give it to the one who has ten talents.
