< Mark 1 >

1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
The beginning of the Good News of Yeshua the Messiah, the Son of God.
2 As it is written in the Prophets, “Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of yoʋ, who will prepare yoʋr way before yoʋ,
As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, "Look, I send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.
3 the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; make his paths straight,’”
The voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the Lord. Make his roads straight.'"
4 John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
John came immersing in the wilderness and proclaiming the immersion of repentance for forgiveness of sins.
5 The whole Judean countryside was going out to him, and so were the people of Jerusalem. They were all being baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.
And all the country of Judea went out to him and all those from Jerusalem, and they were immersed by him in the Jordan river, confessing their sins.
6 Now John was clothed with camel's hair and wore a leather belt around his waist; he ate locusts and wild honey.
And John was clothed with camel's hair and a leather belt around his waist. He ate locusts and wild honey.
7 He proclaimed, “After me comes one who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.
And he preached, saying, "After me comes he who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and loosen.
8 I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
I immersed you in water, but he will immerse you in the Ruach ha-Kodesh."
9 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.
And it happened in those days, that Yeshua came from Natzeret of Galil, and was immersed by John in the Jordan.
10 Immediately as he was coming up from the water, he saw the heavens being split apart and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.
Immediately coming up from the water, he saw the heavens parting, and the Ruach descending on him like a dove.
11 Then a voice came from heaven: “Yoʋ are my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
And a voice came out of the sky, "You are my beloved Son, with you I am well pleased."
12 Immediately the Spirit drove him out into the wilderness,
And immediately the Ruach drove him out into the wilderness.
13 and he was there in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild beasts, and the angels ministered to him.
And he was in the wilderness forty days tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals; and the angels were serving him.
14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God
Now after John was taken into custody, Yeshua came into Galil, proclaiming the Good News of God,
15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has drawn near. Repent and believe in the gospel.”
and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is near. Repent, and believe in the Good News."
16 As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother (that is, Simon's brother) casting a net in the sea, for they were fishermen.
And passing along by the Lake of Galil, he saw Shim'on and Andrew the brother of Shim'on casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.
17 Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
And Yeshua said to them, "Come, follow me, and I will make you into fishers of people."
18 So they immediately left their nets and followed him.
And immediately they left the nets, and followed him.
19 Going on a little farther from there, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother as they were in the boat mending their nets.
And going on a little further, he saw Jacob the son of Zavdai, and John, his brother, who were also in the boat mending the nets.
20 Immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.
And immediately he called them, and they left their father, Zavdai, in the boat with the hired servants, and went after him.
21 They went to Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath Jesus went into the synagogue and began teaching.
And they went into Kfar-Nahum, and immediately on the Sabbath day he entered into the synagogue and taught.
22 The people were astonished at his teaching, because he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes.
And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes.
23 Now in their synagogue there was a man possessed by an unclean spirit. He cried out,
And just then there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he shouted,
24 “Leave us alone! What do yoʋ have to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have yoʋ come to destroy us? I know who yoʋ are—the Holy One of God.”
saying, "What do we have to do with you, Yeshua of Natzeret? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are: the Holy One of God."
25 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!”
And Yeshua rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him."
26 So the unclean spirit convulsed the man and came out of him, crying out with a loud voice.
And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.
27 All the people were amazed so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? What new teaching is this that with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him?”
And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, "What is this? A new teaching? For with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him."
28 And the news about him immediately spread throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee.
And at once the news of him went out everywhere into all the region of Galil and its surrounding area.
29 After leaving the synagogue, they immediately went to the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
And immediately, when they had come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Shim'on and Andrew, with Jacob and John.
30 Now Simon's mother-in-law lay sick with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her.
Now Shim'on's mother-in-law was sick in bed with a fever, and immediately they told him about her.
31 So he went over to her and raised her up, taking hold of her hand. Immediately the fever left her, and she began to serve them.
And he came and took her by the hand, and raised her up. The fever left her, and she served them.
32 When evening came, after the sun had set, they brought to Jesus all who were sick and those who were possessed by demons.
At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to him all who were sick, and those who were possessed by demons.
33 The whole city was gathered together at the door,
And all the city was gathered together at the door.
34 and he healed many who were sick with various diseases. He also cast out many demons, but he would not allow the demons to speak, because they knew who he was.
And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. He did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew him.
35 Early the next morning, while it was still very dark, Jesus rose and departed. He went off to a desolate place and prayed there.
And early in the morning, while it was still dark, he rose up and went out, and departed into a deserted place, and prayed there.
36 Simon and his companions searched diligently for him,
And Shim'on and those who were with him followed after him;
37 and when they found him, they said to him, “Everyone is looking for yoʋ.”
and they found him, and told him, "Everyone is looking for you."
38 Jesus said to them, “Let us go into the neighboring towns so that I may preach there also, for that is why I have come.”
And he said to them, "Let us go somewhere else into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because I came out for this reason."
39 So he was preaching in their synagogues in all of Galilee and casting out demons.
And he went into their synagogues throughout all Galil, preaching and casting out demons.
40 Then a leper came up and knelt before him, begging him, “If yoʋ are willing, yoʋ can make me clean.”
And a leper came to him, begging him, and knelt down and said to him, "Lord, if you want to, you can make me clean."
41 Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched out his hand, touched the man, and said to him, “I am willing; be made clean.”
And being moved with compassion, he stretched out his hand, and touched him, and said to him, "I am willing. Be cleansed."
42 When he said this, the leprosy immediately departed from the man, and he was made clean.
And immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was made clean.
43 Then Jesus sternly warned him and immediately sent him away,
And he strictly warned him, and immediately sent him out,
44 saying to him, “Be sure not to say anything to anyone, but go show yoʋrself to the priest and offer for yoʋr cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”
and said to him, "See you say nothing to anyone, but go show yourself to the cohen, and offer for your cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony to them."
45 But the man went out and began to proclaim it widely and to spread the news, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter a town, but was out in desolate places. Yet people were coming to him from everywhere.
But he went out, and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread about the matter, so that Yeshua could no more openly enter into a city, but was outside in desert places: and they came to him from everywhere.
