< Luke 21 >
1 Then Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury.
And He looked up and saw the rich people bringing their gifts to the treasury:
2 He also saw a poor widow there putting in two small copper coins.
and He saw also a poor widow throwing in two mites.
3 So he said, “Truly I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all the others.
And He said, Verily I tell you, this poor widow hath put in more than they all.
4 For they have all put in gifts for God out of their abundance, but she, out of her poverty, has put in all that she had to live on.”
For all these have out of their abundance contributed to the offerings of God: but she out of her penury hath given all she had.
5 Then, as some were talking about how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and gifts consecrated to God, Jesus said,
And as some were speaking of the temple; how it was adorned with beautiful stones and gifts, He said, As for these things which ye see,
6 “As for these things that you see, the days will come when not one stone will be left upon another; all of them will be torn down.”
the days will come, in which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be demolished.
7 So they asked him, “Teacher, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that these things are about to take place?”
And they asked Him, saying, Master, when shall these things be? And what will be the sign when these things shall come to pass?
8 He said, “Make sure you are not led astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time has drawn near.’ Do not go after them.
And He said, Take heed that ye be not deceived; for many shall come in my name, saying, I am the Christ; and the time is near: but do not therefore go after them.
9 When you hear of wars and uprisings, do not be terrified, for these things must first take place, but the end will not immediately follow.”
And when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these must first happen; but the end will not be directly.
10 Then he said to them, “Nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
Then said He unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom;
11 There will be great earthquakes in various places, along with famines and plagues. There will also be terrifying sights and great signs from heaven.
and there will be great earthquakes in several places, and famines, and pestilences, and fearful sights and great prodigies from heaven.
12 But before all these things take place, they will arrest you and persecute you. They will deliver you up to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my name's sake.
But before all these things they will lay hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to synagogues, and prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake:
13 This will lead to opportunities for you to bear witness.
but it shall be for a testimony to you.
14 Therefore settle it in your hearts not to prepare your defense in advance.
Fix it therefore in your hearts not to premeditate a defence: for I will give you a mouth and wisdom,
15 For I will give you a mouth to speak and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to refute or resist.
which all your adversaries shall not be able to contradict nor withstand.
16 You will even be betrayed by parents, relatives, friends, and brothers, and they will have some of you put to death.
But ye shall be betrayed even by parents, and brethren, and kindred and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death:
17 You will be hated by all because of my name.
and ye will be hated by all men for my sake.
18 Yet not a hair of your head will by any means perish.
But not an hair of your head shall perish.
19 You must gain your lives by your patient endurance.
In your patience therefore possess your souls.
20 “When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, know that its desolation is near.
And when ye shall see Jerusalem surrounded with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh: then let them that are in Judea flee to the mountains,
21 Then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains, those who are in the city must get out, and those who are in the countryside must not enter the city.
and those that are in the midst of it, depart; and let not them that are in the countries enter into it.
22 For those will be days of vengeance, to fulfill all that is written.
For these are days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
23 Woe to those who are with child and to those who are nursing infants in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people.
But wo to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days; for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people,
24 They will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive into all the nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
and they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and be led captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trampled down by the Gentiles, till the times of the Gentiles too shall be fulfilled.
25 “There will be signs in the sun, moon, and stars, and on the earth there will be distress among the nations as they are perplexed by the roaring sea and the surging waves.
And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity, the sea and the waves roring:
26 People will faint from fear and foreboding of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
and men ready to die for fear and apprehension of the things that are coming upon the land; for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
27 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
And then shall they see the Son of man coming, as on a cloud, with power and great glory.
28 So when these things begin to take place, stand tall and lift up your heads, for your redemption is near.”
But when these things begin to come to pass, look upwards and lift up your heads, for your redemption draweth nigh.
29 Then he told them a parable: “Consider the fig tree and all the other trees.
And He spake a parable to them, Behold the fig-tree,
30 As soon as they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near.
and all the trees, when they shoot out, ye see and know of yourselves that summer is now near:
31 So also, when you see these things taking place, know that the kingdom of God is near.
so likewise know ye, when ye see these things coming to pass, that the kingdom of God is at hand.
32 Truly I say to you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all things have taken place.
Verily I tell you, this generation shall not pass away till all be accomplished.
33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will certainly not pass away.
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
34 “Watch yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and the cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly.
Take heed to yourselves, least at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness, and the cares of life, and so that day should come upon you unawares:
35 For it will come like a trap upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth.
for as a snare shall it come upon all that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
36 Therefore stay alert at all times, praying that you may be considered worthy to escape everything that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
Watch therefore and be constant in prayer, that ye may be counted worthy to escape all these things, which shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
37 Each day Jesus taught in the temple courts, but at night he would go out and stay at the mount called Olivet.
Thus He was by day teaching in the temple; and at night He retired to the mount called the mount of Olives.
38 And all the people would come to him early in the morning to listen to him in the temple courts.
And all the people came early in the morning to Him in the temple to hear Him.
