< John 7 >

1 After this Jesus went from place to place in Galilee, for he did not want to travel around in Judea because the Jews were seeking to kill him.
After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.
2 Now the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles was near.
Now the Jew's feast of tabernacles was at hand.
3 So Jesus' brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea so that yoʋr disciples may see the works yoʋ are doing.
His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart behind, and go into Judaea, that your disciples also may see the works that you do.
4 For no one does anything in secret while seeking to be known publicly. If yoʋ are going to do these things, show yoʋrself to the world.”
For there is no man that does any thing in secret, and he himself seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world.
5 (For not even his brothers believed in him.)
For neither did his brethren believe in him.
6 So Jesus said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always at hand.
Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is always ready.
7 The world cannot hate you, but it does hate me because I testify that its works are evil.
The world cannot hate you; but me it hates, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.
8 You go up to this feast; I am not yet going up to this feast, for my time has not yet been fulfilled.”
Go all of you up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast: for my time is not yet full come.
9 After saying this to them, he remained in Galilee.
When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.
10 However, after his brothers had gone up to the feast, Jesus also went up, not openly but in secret.
But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.
11 Now the Jews were looking for him at the feast, saying, “Where is that man?”
Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?
12 And there was much murmuring about him among the crowds. Some were saying, “He is a good man.” Others were saying, “No, he is deceiving the people.”
And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceives the people.
13 No one, however, was speaking openly about him for fear of the Jews.
Nevertheless no man spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.
14 Midway through the feast, Jesus went up to the temple courts and began to teach.
Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.
15 The Jews were amazed, saying, “How does this man know so much, when he has never had any formal instruction?”
And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knows this man letters, having never learned?
16 Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not my own; it comes from him who sent me.
Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
17 If anyone wants to do God's will, he will know whether my teaching comes from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority.
If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
18 He who speaks on his own authority seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is true, and there is no unrighteousness in him.
He that speaks of himself seeks his own glory: but he that seeks his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
19 Did not Moses give you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law. Why are you seeking to kill me?”
Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keeps the law? Why go all of you about to kill me?
20 The crowd answered, “Yoʋ have a demon! Who is seeking to kill yoʋ?”
The people answered and said, You have a devil: who goes about to kill you?
21 Jesus answered them, “I performed one miracle, and you are all amazed.
Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and all of you all marvel.
22 Moses gave you circumcision (not that it came from Moses, but from the fathers), and that is why you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.
Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers; ) and all of you on the sabbath day circumcise a man.
23 If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses will not be broken, why are you angry with me because I made a man entirely well on the Sabbath?
If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are all of you angry at me, because I have made a man everything whole on the sabbath day?
24 Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with right judgment.”
Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
25 Now some of the people of Jerusalem were saying, “Is this not the man whom they are seeking to kill?
Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?
26 And behold, he is speaking openly, and they are saying nothing to him. Could it be that the rulers indeed know that he is truly the Christ?
But, lo, he speaks boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?
27 Yet we know where this man is from, but when the Christ comes, no one will know where he is from.”
Nevertheless we know this man whence he is: but when Christ comes, no man knows whence he is.
28 Then Jesus cried out as he taught in the temple courts, “You know me and you know where I am from. Yet I have not come on my own authority, but he who sent me is true. You do not know him,
Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, All of you both know me, and all of you know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom all of you know not.
29 but I know him, because I have come from him, and he is the one who sent me.”
But I know him: for I am from him, and he has sent me.
30 So they were trying to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.
Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.
31 Still, many from among the crowd believed in him and said, “When the Christ comes, will he do more signs than this man has done?”
And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ comes, will he do more miracles than these which this man has done?
32 The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things about Jesus, so the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to arrest him.
The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.
33 Then Jesus said, “I will be with you for only a little while longer, and then I am going to him who sent me.
Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.
34 You will seek me, but you will not find me; and where I am going, you cannot come.”
All of you shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither all of you cannot come.
35 Then the Jews said to one another, “Where is this man about to go that we will not find him? Is he about to go to the Jews who are scattered among the Greeks and teach the Greeks?
Then said the Jews among themselves, Where will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
36 What does he mean by saying, ‘You will seek me, but you will not find me; and where I am going, you cannot come’?”
What manner of saying (logos) is this that he said, All of you shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither all of you cannot come?
37 On the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
38 Whoever believes in me, just as the Scripture has said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’”
He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39 (He said this about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were going to receive, for the Holy Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.)
(But this spoke he of the Spirit, (pneuma) which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Spirit (pneuma) was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
40 When they heard this, many from among the crowd were saying, “Surely this man is the Prophet.”
Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, (logos) said, Truthfully this is the Prophet.
41 Others were saying, “He is the Christ.” But others were saying, “No, for the Christ does not come from Galilee, does he?
Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?
42 Does not the Scripture say that the Christ will come from David's descendants and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?”
Has not the scripture said, That Christ comes of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
43 So a division arose among the crowd because of Jesus.
So there was a division among the people because of him.
44 Some of them wanted to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him.
And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.
45 Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, “Why did you not bring him in?”
Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have all of you not brought him?
46 The officers answered, “Never has anyone spoken like this man.”
The officers answered, Never man spoke like this man.
47 The Pharisees answered them, “Have you also been deceived?
Then answered them the Pharisees, Are all of you also deceived?
48 Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in him?
Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?
49 No! But this crowd that is following him does not know the law; they are accursed.”
But this people who knows not the law are cursed.
50 Then Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus by night and who was one of the rulers, said,
Nicodemus says unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them, )
51 “Does our law condemn a man without first giving him a hearing and finding out what he is doing?”
Does our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he does?
52 They answered him, “Are yoʋ also from Galilee? Search and see that no prophet has ever arisen from Galilee.”
They answered and said unto him, Are you also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee arises no prophet.
53 And each went to his own house.
And every man went unto his own house.
