< John 14 >
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.
Let not your heart be troubled: all of you believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father's house there are many rooms. If it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.
In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 So when I go, it is to prepare a place for you. I will come again and receive you to myself, so that where I am you also may be.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there all of you may be also.
4 You know where I am going, and you know the way.”
And where I go all of you know, and the way all of you know.
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where yoʋ are going, so how can we know the way?”
Thomas says unto him, Lord, we know not where you go; and how can we know the way?
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Jesus says unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me.
7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
If all of you had known me, all of you should have known my Father also: and from henceforth all of you know him, and have seen him.
8 Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
Philip says unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it satisfies us.
9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long and still yoʋ do not know me, Philip? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father, so how can yoʋ say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Jesus says unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet have you not known me, Philip? he that has seen me has seen the Father; and how say you then, Show us the Father?
10 Do yoʋ not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who abides in me does his works.
Believe you not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the (rhema) words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwells in me, he does the works.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if not, believe me because of the works themselves.
Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.
12 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do. He will even do greater works than these, because I am going to my Father.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believes on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
13 Whatever you ask in my name I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
And whatsoever all of you shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
If all of you shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
15 “If you love me, keep my commandments.
If all of you love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper to abide with you forever— (aiōn )
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; (aiōn )
17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, because he abides with you and will be in you.
Even the Spirit (pneuma) of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees him not, neither knows him: but all of you know him; for he dwells with you, and shall be in you.
18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I am coming back to you.
I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
19 Yet a little while and the world will see me no longer, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.
Yet a little while, and the world sees me no more; but all of you see me: because I live, all of you shall live also.
20 On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.
At that day all of you shall know that I am in my Father, and all of you in me, and I in you.
21 Whoever has my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.”
He that has my commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves me: and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, what has happened that yoʋ are about to manifest yoʋrself to us and not to the world?”
Judas says unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself unto us, and not unto the world?
23 Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: (logos) and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. The word that you hear is not mine, but the Father's who sent me.
He that loves me not keeps not my sayings: (logos) and the word (logos) which all of you hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
25 “I have said these things to you while abiding with you.
These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of everything I have told you.
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, (pneuma) whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
28 You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced that I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ because my Father is greater than I am.
All of you have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If all of you loved me, all of you would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen, you may believe.
And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it has come to pass, all of you might believe.
30 I will not talk with you much longer, for the ruler of the world is coming, but he has no power over me.
Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world comes, and has nothing in me.
31 Rather, I do just as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here.
But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go behind.
