< 2 Timothy 1 >

1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God according to the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus,
khrīṣṭena yīśunā yā jīvanasya pratijñā tāmadhīśvarasyecchayā yīśoḥ khrīṣṭasyaikaḥ preritaḥ paulo'haṁ svakīyaṁ priyaṁ dharmmaputraṁ tīmathiyaṁ prati patraṁ likhāmi|
2 to Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
tāta īśvaro'smākaṁ prabhu ryīśukhrīṣṭaśca tvayi prasādaṁ dayāṁ śāntiñca kriyāstāṁ|
3 I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience as my forefathers did, as night and day I constantly remember yoʋ in my prayers.
aham ā pūrvvapuruṣāt yam īśvaraṁ pavitramanasā seve taṁ dhanyaṁ vadanaṁ kathayāmi, aham ahorātraṁ prārthanāsamaye tvāṁ nirantaraṁ smarāmi|
4 Recalling yoʋr tears, I long to see yoʋ so that I may be filled with joy.
yaśca viśvāsaḥ prathame loyīnāmikāyāṁ tava mātāmahyām unīkīnāmikāyāṁ mātari cātiṣṭhat tavāntare'pi tiṣṭhatīti manye
5 I am reminded of the sincere faith that is in yoʋ, which dwelt first in yoʋr grandmother Lois and in yoʋr mother Eunice, and now, I am sure, dwells in yoʋ also.
tava taṁ niṣkapaṭaṁ viśvāsaṁ manasi kurvvan tavāśrupātaṁ smaran yathānandena praphallo bhaveyaṁ tadarthaṁ tava darśanam ākāṅkṣe|
6 Therefore I remind yoʋ to rekindle the gift of God that is in yoʋ through the laying on of my hands.
ato heto rmama hastārpaṇena labdho ya īśvarasya varastvayi vidyate tam ujjvālayituṁ tvāṁ smārayāmi|
7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, love, and sound judgment.
yata īśvaro'smabhyaṁ bhayajanakam ātmānam adattvā śaktipremasatarkatānām ākaram ātmānaṁ dattavān|
8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel as you rely on the power of God.
ataevāsmākaṁ prabhumadhi tasya vandidāsaṁ māmadhi ca pramāṇaṁ dātuṁ na trapasva kintvīśvarīyaśaktyā susaṁvādasya kṛte duḥkhasya sahabhāgī bhava|
9 He saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace. This grace was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, (aiōnios g166)
so'smān paritrāṇapātrāṇi kṛtavān pavitreṇāhvānenāhūtavāṁśca; asmatkarmmahetuneti nahi svīyanirūpāṇasya prasādasya ca kṛte tat kṛtavān| sa prasādaḥ sṛṣṭeḥ pūrvvakāle khrīṣṭena yīśunāsmabhyam adāyi, (aiōnios g166)
10 but has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.
kintvadhunāsmākaṁ paritrātu ryīśoḥ khrīṣṭasyāgamanena prākāśata| khrīṣṭo mṛtyuṁ parājitavān susaṁvādena ca jīvanam amaratāñca prakāśitavān|
11 For this gospel I was appointed to be a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
tasya ghoṣayitā dūtaścānyajātīyānāṁ śikṣakaścāhaṁ niyukto'smi|
12 That is why I am suffering these things. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to guard what has been entrusted to me until that day.
tasmāt kāraṇāt mamāyaṁ kleśo bhavati tena mama lajjā na jāyate yato'haṁ yasmin viśvasitavān tamavagato'smi mahādinaṁ yāvat mamopanidhe rgopanasya śaktistasya vidyata iti niścitaṁ jānāmi|
13 Hold to the pattern of sound teaching that yoʋ have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
hitadāyakānāṁ vākyānām ādarśarūpeṇa mattaḥ śrutāḥ khrīṣṭe yīśau viśvāsapremnoḥ kathā dhāraya|
14 By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit that has been entrusted to yoʋ.
aparam asmadantarvāsinā pavitreṇātmanā tāmuttamām upanidhiṁ gopaya|
15 Yoʋ know that everyone in Asia has turned away from me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes.
āśiyādeśīyāḥ sarvve māṁ tyaktavanta iti tvaṁ jānāsi teṣāṁ madhye phūgillo harmmaginiśca vidyete|
16 May the Lord give mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains.
prabhuranīṣipharasya parivārān prati kṛpāṁ vidadhātu yataḥ sa punaḥ puna rmām āpyāyitavān
17 On the contrary, when he arrived in Rome, he sought me out very diligently and found me.
mama śṛṅkhalena na trapitvā romānagare upasthitisamaye yatnena māṁ mṛgayitvā mamoddeśaṁ prāptavān|
18 May the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on that day! Yoʋ know very well all the ways he helped me in Ephesus.
ato vicāradine sa yathā prabhoḥ kṛpābhājanaṁ bhavet tādṛśaṁ varaṁ prabhustasmai deyāt| iphiṣanagare'pi sa kati prakārai rmām upakṛtavān tat tvaṁ samyag vetsi|
