< 2 Thessalonians 2 >

1 Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers,
Now we plead to you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2 not to be quickly shaken from your understanding or alarmed by any spirit or message or by any letter supposedly from us alleging that the day of Christ has already come.
That all of you be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, (pneuma) nor by word, (logos) nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
3 Let no one deceive you in any manner, for that day cannot come unless the apostasy comes first and the man of sin is revealed, the son of destruction.
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 He will oppose and exalt himself above every so-called god and object of worship, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.
Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.
5 Do you not remember that I told you these things when I was still with you?
Remember all of you not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
6 And you know what is now restraining him so that he will be revealed in his own time.
And now all of you know what withholds that he might be revealed in his time.
7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work, but the one who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.
For the mystery of iniquity does already work: only he who now lets will let, until he be taken out of the way.
8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will destroy with the breath of his mouth and annihilate by the appearance of his coming.
And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit (pneuma) of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the working of Satan, with all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs, and wonders,
Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
10 and with every kind of wicked deception among those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.
And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love (agape) of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 For this reason God will send them a powerful delusion, leading them to believe what is false,
And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12 so that all who have not believed the truth but have taken pleasure in unrighteousness will be condemned.
That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
13 But we must always give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.
But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God has from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit (pneuma) and belief of the truth:
14 He called you to this through our gospel, so that you might obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Unto which he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
15 So then, brothers, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings that were passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by a letter from us.
Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which all of you have been taught, whether by word, (logos) or our epistle.
16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by his grace, (aiōnios g166)
Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which has loved us, and has given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, (aiōnios g166)
17 comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.
Comfort your hearts, and establish you in every good word (logos) and work.
