Matthew 4
1 Then was Jesus led by the Holy Spirit into the desert, to be tempted by the Calumniator
Alors Jésus fut emmené dans le désert par l'Esprit pour être tenté par le diable.
2 And he fasted forty days and forty nights, and afterward he hungered.
Et après qu'il eut jeûné pendant quarante jours et quarante nuits, il finit par avoir faim.
3 And the Tempter came, and said to him: If thou art the Son of God, command these stones to become bread.
Et, s'étant approché, le tentateur lui dit: « Si tu es fils de Dieu, dis que ces pierres-ci deviennent des pains. »
4 But he replied, and said: It is written, that not by bread only, doth man live; but by every word proceeding from the mouth of God.
Mais il répliqua: « Il est écrit: Ce n'est pas de pain seulement que l'homme vivra, mais de toute parole sortie de la bouche de Dieu. »
5 Then the Calumniator took him to the holy city, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple,
Alors le diable le transporte dans la ville sainte, et il le posa sur l'aile du temple,
6 and said to him: If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, that he will give his angels charge of thee, and in their hands will they sustain thee, lest thou strike thy foot against a stone.
et il lui dit: « Si tu es fils de Dieu, jette-toi en bas; en effet, il est écrit: Car Il donnera pour toi des ordres à Ses anges, et ils te porteront sur leurs mains, de peur que tu ne heurtes ton pied contre une pierre. »
7 Jesus said to him: It is moreover written, that thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
Jésus lui dit: « Il est aussi écrit: Tu ne tenteras point le Seigneur ton Dieu. »
8 Again the Calumniator took him to a mountain that was very high, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory;
Le diable le transporte derechef sur une montagne fort élevée, et il lui montre tous les royaumes du monde et leur gloire,
9 and said to him: All these will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
et il lui dit: « Je te donnerai tout cela, si, te prosternant, tu m'adores. »
10 Then Jesus said to him: Begone, Satan; for it is written, that thou shalt worship the Lord, thy God; and him only shalt thou serve.
Alors Jésus lui dit: « Va-t-en, Satan, car il est écrit: C'est le Seigneur ton Dieu que tu adoreras, et c'est à Lui seul que tu rendras un culte. »
11 Then the Calumniator left him: and lo, angels came, and ministered to him.
Alors le diable le quitte, et voici, des anges s'approchèrent, et ils le servaient.
12 And when Jesus had heard that John was delivered up, he retired to Galilee.
Or, ayant appris que Jean avait été livré, il regagna la Galilée
13 And he left Nazareth, and came and dwelt in Capernaum, by the side of the sea, on the confines of Zebulon and Naphthali.
et, ayant quitté Nazara, il vint s'établir à Capharnaoum, qui est située au bord de la mer, sur les confins de Zabulon et de Nephthalim; —
14 That so might be fulfilled that which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, who said:
afin que fût accompli ce dont il a été parlé par l'entremise d'Ésaïe le prophète lorsqu'il dit:
15 The land of Zebulon, the land of Naphthali, the way of the sea, the ford of Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;
« Terre de Zabulon, et terre de Nephthalim, sur le chemin de la mer, au delà du Jourdain, dans la Galilée des Gentils!
16 the people that sat in darkness, have seen great light; and to them who sat in the region and shadow of death, light is arisen.
Le peuple qui était assis dans les ténèbres a vu une grande lumière, et pour ceux qui étaient assis dans le pays et l'ombre de la mort, une lumière s'est levée pour eux. »
17 From that time began Jesus to proclaim and say: Repent; for the kingdom of heaven hath approached.
C'est de ce moment que Jésus commença à prêcher, et à dire: « Repentez-vous, car le royaume des cieux s'approche. »
18 And as he walked on the shore of the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Cephas, and Andrew his brother, who were casting nets into the sea; for they were fishermen.
Or, en se promenant le long de la mer de Galilée, il vit deux frères, Simon appelé Pierre, et André son frère, qui jetaient un filet dans la mer, car ils étaient pêcheurs,
19 And Jesus said to them: Follow me; and I will cause you to become fishers of men.
et il leur dit: « Venez après moi, et je ferai de vous des pêcheurs d'hommes. »
20 And immediately, they left their nets, and went after him.
Et eux, ayant aussitôt quitté les filets, le suivirent.
21 And as he passed on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, who were mending their nets. And Jesus called them.
Et ayant de là continué sa route, il vit deux autres frères, Jacques fils de Zébédée et Jean son frère, qui, dans leur barque avec Zébédée leur père, arrangeaient leurs filets, et il les appela.
22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and went after him.
Et eux, ayant aussitôt quitté la barque et leur père, le suivirent.
23 And Jesus traveled over all Galilee. and he taught in their synagogues and proclaimed the tidings of the kingdom; and he cured every disease and malady among the people.
Et il parcourait toute la Galilée, enseignant dans leurs synagogues, et prêchant l'évangile du royaume, et guérissant toute espèce de maladies et d'infirmités parmi le peuple.
24 And his fame spread through all Syria. And they brought to him all them that were very sick with diverse diseases, and them that were afflicted with pains, and demoniacs, and lunatics and paralytics; and he healed them.
Et sa renommée se répandit dans toute la Syrie; et on lui amena tous les infirmes, atteints de diverses maladies et de diverses souffrances, démoniaques, et lunatiques, et paralytiques; et il les guérit.
25 And there followed him great multitudes from Galilee, and from the Ten Cities, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond the Jordan.
Et une foule nombreuse, venue de la Galilée, et de la Décapole, et de Jérusalem, et de Judée, et de par delà le Jourdain, le suivit.
