Galatians 5
1 Stand fast, therefore, in the liberty with which the Messiah hath made us free; and be not subjected again to the yoke of bondage.
Cristo ci ha affrancati perché fossimo liberi; state dunque saldi, e non vi lasciate di nuovo porre sotto il giogo della schiavitù!
2 Behold, I Paul say to you, That if ye become circumcised, the Messiah is of no advantage to you.
Ecco, io, Paolo, vi dichiaro che, se vi fate circoncidere, Cristo non vi gioverà nulla.
3 And again, I testify to every one who becometh circumcised, that he is bound to fulfill the whole law.
E da capo protesto ad ogni uomo che si fa circoncidere, ch’egli è obbligato ad osservare tutta quanta la legge.
4 Ye have renounced the Messiah, ye who seek justification by the law: and ye have apostatized from grace.
Voi che volete esser giustificati per la legge, avete rinunziato a Cristo; siete scaduti dalla grazia.
5 For we, through the Spirit, which is from faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness.
Poiché, quanto a noi, è in ispirito, per fede, che aspettiamo la speranza della giustizia.
6 For, in the Messiah Jesus, circumcision is nothing, neither is uncircumcision, but the faith that is perfected by love.
Infatti, in Cristo Gesù, né la circoncisione né l’incirconcisione hanno valore alcuno; quel che vale è la fede operante per mezzo dell’amore.
7 Ye did run well: who hath interrupted you, that ye acquiesce not in the truth?
Voi correvate bene; chi vi ha fermati perché non ubbidiate alla verità?
8 The bias of your mind is not from him who called you.
Una tal persuasione non viene da Colui che vi chiama.
9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole mass.
Un po’ di lievito fa lievitare tutta la pasta.
10 I confide in you through our Lord, that ye will entertain no other thoughts. And he that disquieteth you, shall bear his judgment, whoever he may be.
Riguardo a voi, io ho questa fiducia nel Signore, che non la penserete diversamente; ma colui che vi conturba ne porterà la pena, chiunque egli sia.
11 And I, my brethren, if I still preached circumcision, why should I suffer persecution? Hath the offensiveness of the cross ceased?
Quanto a me, fratelli, s’io predico ancora la circoncisione, perché sono ancora perseguitato? Lo scandalo della croce sarebbe allora tolto via.
12 But I would, that they who disquiet you, were actually cut off.
Si facessero pur anche evirare quelli che vi mettono sottosopra!
13 And ye, my brethren, have been called into liberty: only let not your liberty be an occasion to the flesh; but, by love, be ye servants to each other.
Perché, fratelli, voi siete stati chiamati a libertà; soltanto non fate della libertà un’occasione alla carne, ma per mezzo dell’amore servite gli uni agli altri;
14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one sentence; in this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
poiché tutta la legge è adempiuta in quest’unica parola: Ama il tuo prossimo come te stesso.
15 But if ye bite and devour one another, beware, lest ye be consumed one by another.
Ma se vi mordete e divorate gli uni gli altri, guardate di non esser consumati gli uni dagli altri.
16 And I say: Walk ye in the Spirit; and never follow the cravings of the flesh.
Or io dico: Camminate per lo Spirito e non adempirete i desideri della carne.
17 For the flesh craveth that which is repugnant to the Spirit; and the Spirit craveth that which is repugnant to the flesh: and the two are the opposites of each other, so that ye do not that which ye desire.
Perché la carne ha desideri contrari allo Spirito, e lo Spirito ha desideri contrari alla carne; sono cose opposte fra loro; in guisa che non potete fare quel che vorreste.
18 But if ye are guided by the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
Ma se siete condotti dallo Spirito, voi non siete sotto la legge.
19 For the works of the flesh are known, which are whoredom, impurity, lasciviousness,
Or le opere della carne sono manifeste, e sono: fornicazione, impurità, dissolutezza,
20 idol-worship, magic, malice, contention, rivalry, wrath, strife, divisions, discords,
idolatria, stregoneria, inimicizie, discordia, gelosia, ire, contese, divisioni,
21 envy, murder, drunkenness, revelling, and all the like things. And they who perpetrate these things, as I have before told you, and also now tell you, do not inherit the kingdom of God.
sètte, invidie, ubriachezze, gozzoviglie, e altre simili cose; circa le quali vi prevengo, come anche v’ho già prevenuti, che quelli che fanno tali cose non erederanno il regno di Dio.
22 But the fruits of the Spirit are, love, joy, peace, long suffering, suavity, kindness, fidelity, modesty, patience.
Il frutto dello Spirito, invece, è amore, allegrezza, pace, longanimità, benignità, bontà, fedeltà, dolcezza, temperanza;
23 Against these there standeth no law.
contro tali cose non c’è legge.
24 And they who are of the Messiah, have crucified their flesh, with all its passions and its cravings.
E quelli che son di Cristo hanno crocifisso la carne con le sue passioni e le sue concupiscenze.
25 Let us therefore live in the Spirit; and let us press on after the Spirit.
Se viviamo per lo Spirito, camminiamo altresì per lo Spirito.
26 And let us not be vain-glorious, despising one another, and envying one another.
Non siamo vanagloriosi, provocandoci e invidiandoci gli uni gli altri.
