«Parla agli Israeliti e dì loro: Stabilitevi le città di rifugio, delle quali vi ho parlato per mezzo di Mosè,
3 to/for to flee there [to] to murder to smite soul: person in/on/with unintentionally in/on/with without knowledge and to be to/for you to/for refuge from to redeem: avenge [the] blood
perché l'omicida che avrà ucciso qualcuno per errore o per inavvertenza, vi si possa rifugiare; vi serviranno di rifugio contro il vendicatore del sangue.

L'omicida fuggirà in una di quelle città e, fermatosi all'ingresso della porta della città, esporrà il suo caso agli anziani di quella città; questi lo accoglieranno presso di loro dentro la città, gli assegneranno una dimora ed egli si stabilirà in mezzo a loro.

Se il vendicatore del sangue lo inseguirà, essi non gli daranno nelle mani l'omicida, perché ha ucciso il prossimo senza averne l'intenzione, senza averlo prima odiato.
6 and to dwell in/on/with city [the] he/she/it till to stand: stand he to/for face: before [the] congregation to/for justice: judgement till death [the] priest [the] great: large which to be in/on/with day [the] they(masc.) then to return: return [the] to murder and to come (in): come to(wards) city his and to(wards) house: home his to(wards) [the] city which to flee from there
L'omicida rimarrà in quella città finché, alla morte del sommo sacerdote, che sarà in funzione in quei giorni, comparirà in giudizio davanti all'assemblea. Allora l'omicida potrà tornarsene e rientrare nella sua città e nella sua casa, nella città da dove era fuggito».

Consacrarono dunque Kades in Galilea sulle montagne di Nèftali, Sichem sulle montagne di Efraim e Kiriat-Arba, cioè Ebron sulle montagne di Giuda.

Queste furono le città stabilite per tutti gli Israeliti e per lo straniero che abita in mezzo a loro, perché chiunque avesse ucciso qualcuno per inavvertenza, potesse rifugiarvisi e non morisse per mano del vendicatore del sangue, prima d'essere comparso davanti all'assemblea.
