< Job 28 >
1 for there to/for silver: money exit and place to/for gold to refine
Siluer hath bigynnyngis of his veynes; and a place is to gold, in which it is wellid togidere.
2 iron from dust to take: take and stone to pour bronze
Irun is takun fro erthe, and a stoon resolued, `ethir meltid, bi heete, is turned in to money.
3 end to set: put to/for darkness and to/for all limit he/she/it to search stone darkness and shadow
God hath set tyme to derknessis, and he biholdith the ende of alle thingis.
4 to break through torrent: river from from with to sojourn [the] to forget from foot to languish from human to shake
Also a stronde departith a stoon of derknesse, and the schadewe of deth, fro the puple goynge in pilgrymage; it departith tho hillis, whiche the foot of a nedi man foryat, and hillis with out weie.
5 land: soil from her to come out: produce food: bread and underneath: under her to overturn like fire
The erthe, wher of breed cam forth in his place, is destried bi fier.
6 place sapphire stone her and dust gold to/for him
The place of saphir ben stoonys therof, and the clottis therof ben gold.
7 path not to know him bird of prey and not to see him eye falcon
A brid knewe not the weie, and the iye of a vultur, ethir rauenouse brid, bihelde it not.
8 not to tread him son: type of pride not to advance upon him lion
The sones of marchauntis tretiden not on it, and a lyonesse passide not therbi.
9 in/on/with flint to send: reach hand: power his to overturn from root mountain: mount
God stretchide forth his hond to a flynt; he distriede hillis fro the rootis.
10 in/on/with rock stream to break up/open and all preciousness to see: see eye his
He hewide doun ryuers in stoonys; and his iye siy al precious thing.
11 from weeping river to saddle/tie and secret her to come out: send light
And he souyte out the depthis of floodis; and he brouyte forth hid thingis in to liyt.
12 and [the] wisdom from where? to find and where? this place understanding
But where is wisdom foundun, and which is the place of vndurstondyng?
13 not to know human valuation her and not to find in/on/with land: country/planet [the] alive
A man noot the prijs therof, nether it is foundun in the lond of men lyuynge swetli, `ether delicatli.
14 abyss to say not in/on/with me he/she/it and sea to say nothing with me me
The depthe of watris seith, It is not in me; and the see spekith, It is not with me.
15 not to give: give enclosure underneath: instead her and not to weigh silver: money price her
Gold ful cleene schal not be youun for wisdom, nether siluer schal be weied in the chaungyng therof.
16 not to weigh in/on/with gold Ophir in/on/with onyx precious and sapphire
It schal not be comparysound to the died colours of Iynde, not to the moost preciouse stoon of sardius, nether to saphir.
17 not to arrange her gold and glass and exchange her article/utensil pure gold
Nether gold, nether glas schal be maad euene worth therto;
18 coral and crystal not to remember and bag/price wisdom from jewel
and hiye and fer apperynge vessels of gold schulen not be chaungid for wisdom, nether schulen be had in mynde in comparisoun therof. Forsothe wisdom is drawun of pryuy thingis;
19 not to arrange her topaz Cush in/on/with gold pure not to weigh
topasie of Ethiope schal not be maad euene worth to wisdom, and moost preciouse diyngis schulen not be set togidere in prijs, `ether comparisound, therto.
20 and [the] wisdom from where? to come (in): come and where? this place understanding
Therfor wherof cometh wisdom, and which is the place of vndurstondyng?
21 and to conceal from eye all alive and from bird [the] heaven to hide
It is hid fro the iyen of alle lyuynge men; also it is hid fro briddis of heuene.
22 Abaddon and death to say in/on/with ear our to hear: hear report her
Perdicioun and deeth seiden, With oure eeris we herden the fame therof.
23 God to understand way: direction her and he/she/it to know [obj] place her
God vndurstondith the weye therof, and he knowith the place therof.
24 for he/she/it to/for end [the] land: country/planet to look underneath: under all [the] heaven to see: see
For he biholdith the endis of the world, and biholdith alle thingis that ben vndur heuene.
25 to/for to make: offer to/for spirit: breath weight and water to measure in/on/with measure
`Which God made weiyte to wyndis, and weiede watris in mesure.
26 in/on/with to make he to/for rain statute: decree and way: journey to/for lightning voice: thunder
Whanne he settide lawe to reyn, and weie to tempestis sownynge;
27 then to see: see her and to recount her to establish: establish her and also to search her
thanne he siy wisdom, and telde out, and made redi, and souyte out.
28 and to say to/for man look! fear Lord he/she/it wisdom and to turn aside: turn aside from bad: evil understanding
And he seide to man, Lo! the drede of the Lord, thilke is wisdom; and to go awei fro yuel, is vndurstondyng.
