< Job 20 >
1 and to answer Zophar [the] Naamathite and to say
Then answered Zophar the Na'amathite, and said,
2 to/for so disquietings my to return: reply me and in/on/with for the sake of to hasten I in/on/with me
Even therefore do my inmost thoughts give me an answer, and for this reason do I feel a strong excitement within me.
3 discipline shame my to hear: hear and spirit from understanding my to answer me
Reproof which casteth shame on me must I hear; yet out of my understanding will the spirit give me an answer.
4 this to know from perpetuity from to set: put man upon land: country/planet
Dost thou know this? from the very beginning of things, from the very time when man was placed upon earth it was,
5 for triumphing wicked from near and joy profane till moment
That the triumphal shouting of the wicked is ever of but a recent date, and the joy of the hypocrite endureth only for a moment.
6 if to ascend: rise to/for heaven loftiness his and head his to/for cloud to touch
Though his exaltation should mount up to the heavens, and his head should reach unto the clouds;
7 like/as dung his to/for perpetuity to perish to see: see him to say where? he
Yet when he but turneth round will he vanish for ever; those who have seen him will say, Where is he?
8 like/as dream to fly and not to find him and to wander like/as vision night
Like a dream will he fly away, and men will find him no more; yea, he will be chased away like a vision of the night.
9 eye to see him and not to add: again and not still to see him place his
If an eye have surveyed him, it will not do so again, and it will not behold him any more in his place.
10 son: child his to accept poor and hand his to return: return strength his
His children will suffer oppression from the indigent, and his hands will have to restore his [ill-gotten] wealth.
11 bone his to fill (youth his *Q(K)*) and with him upon dust to lie down: lay down
[Now] his bones are full of his youthful vigor; but it will [suddenly] lie down with him in the dust.
12 if be sweet in/on/with lip his distress: evil to hide her underneath: under tongue his
If the evil be sweet in his mouth, he will conceal it under his tongue;
13 to spare upon her and not to leave: release her and to withhold her in/on/with midst palate his
He will cherish it, and not forsake it; and hold it back within his palate;
14 food his in/on/with belly his to overturn gall cobra in/on/with entrails: among his
His food is thus changed within his bowels, and becometh the venom of asps within him.
15 strength: rich to swallow up and to vomit him from belly: abdomen his to possess: take him God
The wealth which he hath swallowed, will he have to vomit up again; God will drive it out of his belly.
16 poison cobra to suckle to kill him tongue viper
The poison of asps will he have to suck; the viper's tongue will slay him.
17 not to see: see in/on/with stream river torrent: river honey and curd
He shall not look with pleasure on streams, on flowing brooks of honey and cream.
18 to return: return toil and not to swallow up like/as strength: rich exchange his and not to rejoice
He restoreth what he hath labored for, and will not swallow it down; however much he may have obtained by toil, he will not have any joy of it.
19 for to crush to leave: neglect poor house: home to plunder and not to build him
Because he oppressed and forsook the indigent; because he took violently away a house, shall he not rebuild it;
20 for not to know at ease in/on/with belly: abdomen his in/on/with to desire his not to escape
Because he knew not quietness in his bosom, shall he not escape through what is the most precious to him.
21 nothing survivor to/for to eat he upon so not be firm goodness his
Nothing was spared from his craving to eat: therefore shall his wealth not prosper.
22 in/on/with to fill sufficiency his be distressed to/for him all hand labour(er) to come (in): come him
In the fulness of his abundance will distress assail him: every hand of [those he] troubled will come against him.
23 to be to/for to fill belly: abdomen his to send: depart in/on/with him burning anger face: anger his and to rain upon them in/on/with intestine his
In order to fill his belly, [God] will send out against him the fury of his wrath, and will rain it upon him for his eating.
24 to flee from weapon iron to pass him bow bronze
If he flee from the iron weapon, the brazen bow will strike him through.
25 to draw and to come out: come from back and lightning from gall his to go: come upon him terror
He draweth it, and it cometh out of the body; yea, out of his gall the glittering [arrow] cometh forth: over him come the terrors [of death].
26 all darkness to hide to/for to treasure his to eat him fire not to breathe be evil survivor in/on/with tent his
Entire darkness is laid by for his treasures: a fire not urged by blowing will consume him; it will destroy any one that is left in his tent.
27 to reveal: reveal heaven iniquity: crime his and land: country/planet to arise: attack to/for him
The heavens will lay open his iniquity; and the earth will raise herself up against him.
28 to reveal: remove crops house: home his to pour in/on/with day face: anger his
The product of his house will be banished, flowing away on the day of his wrath.
29 this portion man wicked from God and inheritance word his from God
This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and his decreed heritage from God.
