< Genesis 36 >
1 and these generation Esau he/she/it Edom
(Here is/I will now give you) a list of the descendants of Esau, whose other name was Edom.
2 Esau to take: take [obj] woman: wife his from daughter Canaan [obj] Adah daughter Elon [the] Hittite and [obj] Oholibamah daughter Anah daughter Zibeon [the] Hivite
Esau married three women from the Canaan region: Adah, the daughter of Elon from the Heth people-group; Oholibamah, who was the daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon from the Hiv people-group;
3 and [obj] Basemath daughter Ishmael sister Nebaioth
and Basemath, who was the daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth.
4 and to beget Adah to/for Esau [obj] Eliphaz and Basemath to beget [obj] Reuel
Esau’s wife Adah gave birth to Eliphaz. Basemath gave birth to Reuel.
5 and Oholibamah to beget [obj] (Jeush *Q(K)*) and [obj] Jalam and [obj] Korah these son: child Esau which to beget to/for him in/on/with land: country/planet Canaan
Oholibamah gave birth to Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. All these sons of Esau were born while he was living in the Canaan region.
6 and to take: take Esau [obj] woman: wife his and [obj] son: child his and [obj] daughter his and [obj] all soul: person house: household his and [obj] livestock his and [obj] all animal his and [obj] all acquisition his which to gather in/on/with land: country/planet Canaan and to go: went to(wards) land: country/planet from face: before Jacob brother: male-sibling his
Jacob and Esau had very many possessions. The result was that they needed more land for their livestock. The land where they were living was not big enough for both of them. They had too much livestock. So Esau, whose other name was Edom, had taken his wives and sons and daughters and all the other members of his household, his sheep and goats and his other animals, and all the other things he had obtained in Canaan land, and they had moved to an area that was away from Jacob.

They went to live in the Seir hilly area.
9 and these generation Esau father Edom in/on/with mountain: hill country Seir
(Here is/I will now give you) another list of the male descendants of Esau. He was the ancestor of the Edom people-group who live in the Seir area.
10 these name son: child Esau Eliphaz son: child Adah woman: wife Esau Reuel son: child Basemath woman: wife Esau
Esau’s wife Adah gave birth to Eliphaz, and Esau’s wife Basemath gave birth to Reuel.
11 and to be son: child Eliphaz Teman Omar Zepho and Gatam and Kenaz
The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.
12 and Timna to be concubine to/for Eliphaz son: child Esau and to beget to/for Eliphaz [obj] Amalek these son: child Adah woman: wife Esau
Esau’s son Eliphaz also had a (concubine/female slave whom he took as a secondary wife). Her name was Timna. She gave birth to Amalek. Those six men were grandsons of Esau’s wife Adah.
13 and these son: child Reuel Nahath and Zerah Shammah and Mizzah these to be son: child Basemath woman: wife Esau
Reuel’s sons were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. They were grandsons of Esau’s wife Basemath.
14 and these to be son: child Oholibamah daughter Anah daughter Zibeon woman: wife Esau and to beget to/for Esau [obj] (Jeush *Q(K)*) and [obj] Jalam and [obj] Korah
Esau’s wife Oholibamah, who was the daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon, gave birth to three sons: Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.
15 these chief son: child Esau son: child Eliphaz firstborn Esau chief Teman chief Omar chief Zepho chief Kenaz
(Here is/I will now give you) a list of the people-groups who were descendants of Esau. His oldest son Eliphaz was the ancestor of the Teman people-group, the Omar people-group, the Zepho people-group, the Kenaz people-group,
16 chief Korah chief Gatam chief Amalek these chief Eliphaz in/on/with land: country/planet Edom these son: descendant/people Adah
the Korah people-group, the Gatam people-group, and the Amalek people-group. They were descendants of Eliphaz and of Esau’s wife Adah. They lived in the Edom region.
17 and these son: child Reuel son: child Esau chief Nahath chief Zerah chief Shammah chief Mizzah these chief Reuel in/on/with land: country/planet Edom these son: child Basemath woman: wife Esau
The sons of Esau’s son Reuel were ancestors of the Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah people-groups. They were descended from Esau’s wife Basemath. They also lived in Edom.
18 and these son: child Oholibamah woman: wife Esau chief Jeush chief Jalam chief Korah these chief Oholibamah daughter Anah woman: wife Esau
The sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah, whose mother was Anah, were ancestors of the Jeush, Jalam, and Korah people-groups.
19 these son: child Esau and these chief their he/she/it Edom
That is the list of the sons of Esau, and the people-groups who were their descendants.
20 these son: child Seir [the] Horite to dwell [the] land: country/planet Lotan and Shobal and Zibeon and Anah
(This is/I will now give you) a list of the descendants of Seir, who belonged to the Hor people-group, who were the first people-group who lived in the Edom region: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,
21 and Dishon and Ezer and Dishan these chief [the] Horite son: child Seir in/on/with land: country/planet Edom
Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan. Those seven men became ancestors of people-groups. Each of the people-groups had the same name as the name of their ancestor.
22 and to be son: child Lotan Hori and Hemam and sister Lotan Timna
The sons of Lotan were Hori and Heman and Lotan’s sister was Timna.
23 and these son: child Shobal Alvan and Manahath and Ebal Shepho and Onam
The sons of Shobal were Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.
24 and these son: child Zibeon and Aiah and Anah he/she/it Anah which to find [obj] [the] hot spring in/on/with wilderness in/on/with to pasture he [obj] [the] donkey to/for Zibeon father his
The sons of Zibeon were Aiah and Anah. This Anah was the one who discovered the hot springs in the desert while he was taking care of his father Zibeon’s donkeys.
25 and these son: child Anah Dishon and Oholibamah daughter Anah
Anah had two children—a son named Dishon and a daughter named Oholibamah.
26 and these son: child Dishon Hemdan and Eshban and Ithran and Cheran
Dishon’s sons were Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Keran.
27 these son: child Ezer Bilhan and Zaavan and Akan
Ezer’s sons were Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan.
28 these son: child Dishan Uz and Aran
Dishan’s sons were Uz and Aran.
29 these chief [the] Horite chief Lotan chief Shobal chief Zibeon chief Anah
The people-groups who were descendants of Hor lived in the Seir/Edom region. The names of the people-groups are Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan.
30 chief Dishon chief Ezer chief Dishan these chief [the] Hori to/for chief their in/on/with land: country/planet Seir
31 and these [the] king which to reign in/on/with land: country/planet Edom to/for face: before to reign king to/for son: descendant/people Israel
These are the names of the kings who ruled in Edom before any kings ruled over Israel.
32 and to reign in/on/with Edom Bela son: child Beor and name city his Dinhabah
Beor’s son Bela became the first king in Edom. The city where he lived was named Dinhabah.
33 and to die Bela and to reign underneath: instead him Jobab son: child Zerah from Bozrah
When Bela died, Zerah’s son Jobab/became the king. He was from Bozrah [city].
34 and to die Jobab and to reign underneath: instead him Husham from land: country/planet [the] Temanite
When Jobab died, Husham became the king. He was from the region where the Teman people-group lived.
35 and to die Husham and to reign underneath: instead him Hadad son: child Bedad [the] to smite [obj] Midian in/on/with land: country Moab and name city his Avith
When Husham died, Bedad’s son Hadan became the king. Husham’s army fought the army of the Midian people-group in the Moab region and defeated them. The city where Husham lived was Avith.
36 and to die Hadad and to reign underneath: instead him Samlah from Masrekah
When Hadad died, Samlah became the king. He was from Masrekah [town].
37 and to die Samlah and to reign underneath: instead him Shaul from Rehoboth [the] River
When Samlah died, Shaul became the king. He was from Rehoboth [town] along the [Euphrates] river.
38 and to die Shaul and to reign underneath: instead him Baal-hanan Baal-hanan son: child Achbor
When Shaul died, Achbor’s son Baal-Hanan became king.
39 and to die Baal-hanan Baal-hanan son: child Achbor and to reign underneath: instead him Hadar and name city his Pau and name woman: wife his Mehetabel daughter Matred daughter Mezahab Mezahab
When Achbor’s son Baal-Hanan died, Hadad became king. The city where he lived was named Pau. His wife’s name was Mehetabel. She was the daughter of Matred, who was the daughter of Me-Zahab.
40 and these name chief Esau to/for family their to/for place their in/on/with name their chief Timna chief Alvah chief Jetheth
(Here is/I will now give you) a list of all the people-groups that were descendants of Esau: Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, Magdiel, and Iram. They all lived in the Edom region. The land where each people-group lived got the same name as the name of the people-group.
