আর যাদের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বলে মনে হয়েছিল—তারা যেই হোন না কেন, আমার কিছু আসে-যায় না; ঈশ্বর বাহ্যিক রূপ দেখে বিচার করেন না—সেই ব্যক্তিরা আমার বার্তার সঙ্গে অতিরিক্ত কিছুই যোগ করেননি।

যাকোব, পিতর ও যোহন—যাঁরা মণ্ডলীর স্তম্ভরূপে খ্যাত ছিলেন—তাঁরা আমাকে দেওয়া এই অনুগ্রহ উপলব্ধি করে আমার ও বার্ণবার হাতে হাত মিলিয়ে সহকর্মীরূপে আমাদের গ্রহণ করলেন। তাঁরা সম্মত হলেন যে, অইহুদিদের কাছে আমাদের যাওয়া উচিত ও তাঁদের উচিত ইহুদিদের কাছে যাওয়া।

তাঁরা শুধু চাইলেন, আমরা যেন নিয়ত দরিদ্রদের কথা স্মরণে রাখি, যে কাজ করার জন্য আমিও আগ্রহী ছিলাম।

যাকোবের কাছ থেকে কিছু লোক আসার আগে তিনি অইহুদিদের সঙ্গে আহার করতেন; কিন্তু তারা উপস্থিত হলে তিনি পিছিয়ে গেলেন ও অইহুদিদের কাছ থেকে নিজেকে পৃথক করতে লাগলেন, কারণ যারা সুন্নতপ্রাপ্ত ছিল, তিনি তাদের ভয় পেতেন।

আমি যখন দেখলাম, তাঁরা সুসমাচারের সত্য অনুযায়ী কাজ করছেন না, আমি তাঁদের সকলের সামনে পিতরকে বললাম, “তুমি একজন ইহুদি, তবুও তুমি ইহুদির মতো নয় বরং একজন অইহুদির মতো জীবনযাপন করছ। তাহলে, এ কী রকম যে, তুমি অইহুদিদের বাধ্য করছ ইহুদি রীতিনীতি পালন করতে?

“আমরা, যারা জন্মসূত্রে ইহুদি, কিন্তু ‘অইহুদি পাপী’ নই,

আমরা জানি যে, বিধান পালন করে কোনো মানুষ নির্দোষ প্রতিপন্ন হয় না, কিন্তু হয় যীশু খ্রীষ্টের উপর বিশ্বাস দ্বারা। তাই আমরাও খ্রীষ্ট যীশুতে আমাদের বিশ্বাস স্থাপন করেছি, যেন আমরা খ্রীষ্টের উপর বিশ্বাস দ্বারা নির্দোষ প্রতিপন্ন হতে পারি, বিধান পালনের দ্বারা নয়, কারণ বিধান পালনের দ্বারা কেউই নির্দোষ প্রতিপন্ন হবে না।

“যদি খ্রীষ্টে নির্দোষ বলে গণ্য হওয়ার প্রচেষ্টায় আমরাও যদি পাপী বলে প্রতিপন্ন হয়ে থাকি, তবে কি ধরে নিতে হবে যে খ্রীষ্ট পাপের সহায়ক? অবশ্যই নয়!

যদি আমি যা ধ্বংস করেছি, তাই আবার তৈরি করি, আমি নিজেকে আইনভঙ্গকারী বলেই প্রমাণ করি।

“কারণ বিধানের মাধ্যমে বিধানের প্রতি আমি মৃত্যুবরণ করেছি, যেন আমি ঈশ্বরের জন্য বেঁচে থাকতে পারি। আমি খ্রীষ্টের সঙ্গে ক্রুশবিদ্ধ হয়েছি।

আমি আর জীবিত নেই, কিন্তু খ্রীষ্টই আমার মধ্যে জীবিত আছেন। আর এই শরীরে আমি যে জীবনযাপন করছি, তা আমি ঈশ্বরের পুত্রের উপর বিশ্বাস দ্বারাই যাপন করছি; তিনি আমাকে প্রেম করেছেন ও আমার জন্য নিজেকে প্রদান করেছেন।
