< Exodus 20 >

1 and to speak: speak God [obj] all [the] word [the] these to/for to say
Then God said this [to the Israeli people: ]
2 (I *L(p)*) LORD (God your *L(p)*) which to come out: send you from land: country/planet Egypt (from house: home *L(p)*) (servant/slave *L(b+p)*)
“I am Yahweh God, the one you [worship]. I am the one who brought you out of Egypt. I am the one who freed you from being slaves [there].
3 not to be (to/for you God another *L(p)*) upon (face: before my *L(p)*)
[So] you must worship [only] me; you must not worship any other god.
4 not to make (to/for you *L(p)*) idol and all (likeness *L(p)*) (which *L(b+p)*) in/on/with heaven (from above *L(p)*) (and which *L(b+p)*) (in/on/with land: country/planet from underneath: under and which in/on/with water from underneath: under to/for land: country/planet *L(p)*)
You must not carve/make for yourselves any idol that represents anything in the sky or that is on the ground or that is in the water under the ground/earth.
5 not (to bow to/for them *L(p)*) and not (to serve: minister them *L(p)*) for I LORD God your God jealous to reckon: visit iniquity: crime father upon son: child upon third and upon fourth (to/for to hate me *L(p)*)
You must not bow down to any idol and worship it, because I am Yahweh God, and I (am very jealous/want you to worship me only). I will punish those who sin and hate me. I will punish not only them, but I will punish (their descendants, down to the third and fourth generation/their children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren).
6 (and to make: do kindness to/for thousand *L(p)*) to/for to love: lover me and to/for to keep: obey commandment my
But I will steadfastly love thousands of generations of those who love me and obey my commandments (OR, I will love for thousands of generations.)
7 not to lift: raise [obj] name LORD God your to/for vanity: vain for not to clear LORD [obj] which to lift: raise [obj] name his to/for vanity: vain
Do not use my name carelessly (OR, for wrong/evil purposes), because I am Yahweh God, the one whom you [should worship], and I will certainly punish those who use my name for wrong/evil purposes [LIT].
8 (to remember *L(p)*) [obj] (day [the] Sabbath to/for to consecrate: consecate him *L(p)*)
Do not forget that the seventh day [of every week] is mine, so dedicate those days to me.
9 (six day to serve: labour and to make: do *L(p)*) all (work your *L(p)*)
There are six days each week for you to do all your work,
10 and day ([the] seventh Sabbath *L(p)*) to/for LORD (God your *L(p)*) not (to make: do *L(p)*) all (work *L(p)*) you(m. s.) and son: child your (and daughter your servant/slave your and maidservant your and animal your and sojourner your which in/on/with gate your *L(p)*)
but the seventh day is a day of rest, a day dedicated to me, Yahweh God, the one whom you [should worship]. On that day you must not do any work. You and your sons and daughters and your male and female slaves must not work. You must not even force your livestock to work, and you must not allow foreigners to work, those who are living in your country.
11 for six day to make LORD [obj] [the] heaven and [obj] [the] land: country/planet [obj] [the] sea and [obj] all which in/on/with them and to rest in/on/with day [the] seventh upon so to bless LORD [obj] day [the] Sabbath and to consecrate: consecate him
I, Yahweh, created the sky, the earth, the ocean, and everything that is in them, in six days. Then I stopped my work of creating everything, and rested on the seventh day. That is the reason that I, Yahweh, have blessed the rest day and set it apart [to be a sacred/special day].
12 to honor: honour [obj] father your and [obj] mother your because to prolong [emph?] day your upon [the] land: soil which LORD God your to give: give to/for you
Honor/Respect your fathers and your mothers, in order that you may live a long time in the land that I, Yahweh God, will give you.
13 (not to murder *L(p)*)
Do not murder anyone.
14 (not to commit adultery *L(p)*)
Do not (commit adultery/have sex with anyone other than your spouse).
15 (not to steal *L(p)*)
Do not steal anything.
16 not to answer in/on/with neighbor your witness deception
Do not falsely accuse anyone [of committing a crime].
17 not to desire house: home neighbor your not to desire woman: wife neighbor your and servant/slave his and maidservant his and cattle his and donkey his and all which to/for neighbor your
Do not (covet/desire to have) someone else’s house, someone else’s wife, someone else’s male or female slave, someone else’s livestock, someone else’s donkeys, or anything else that some other person owns.”
18 and all [the] people to see: see [obj] [the] voice: thunder and [obj] [the] torch and [obj] voice: sound [the] trumpet and [obj] [the] mountain: mount smoking and to see: see [the] people and to shake and to stand: stand from distant
When the people heard the thunder and saw the lightning, and when they heard the sound of the trumpet and saw the smoke on the mountain, they were afraid and trembled. They stood at a distance,
19 and to say to(wards) Moses to speak: speak you(m. s.) with us and to hear: hear and not to speak: speak with us God lest to die
and said to Moses/me, “If you speak to us, we will listen. But do not let God speak any more to us. [We are afraid that] if he speaks [any more] to us, we will die.”
20 and to say Moses to(wards) [the] people not to fear for to/for in/on/with for the sake of to test [obj] you to come (in): come [the] God and in/on/with for the sake of to be fear his upon face: before your to/for lest to sin
Moses/I replied, “Do not be afraid! God has come to determine/test [how you will behave]. He wants you to revere him, and to not sin.”
21 and to stand: stand [the] people from distant and Moses to approach: approach to(wards) [the] cloud which there [the] God
Then, as the people [watched from] a distance, Moses/I went close to the black cloud where God was.
22 and to say LORD to(wards) Moses thus to say to(wards) son: descendant/people Israel you(m. p.) to see: see for from [the] heaven to speak: speak with you
Yahweh said to Moses/me, “Say this to the Israeli people: ‘You have heard how I, Yahweh, have spoken to you from heaven. I told you that you must not make any idols of silver or gold [that you will worship instead] of me.
23 not to make [emph?] with me God silver: money and God gold not to make to/for you
24 altar land: soil to make to/for me and to sacrifice upon him [obj] burnt offering your and [obj] peace offering your [obj] flock your and [obj] cattle your in/on/with all [the] place which to remember [obj] name my to come (in): come to(wards) you and to bless you
Make for me an altar from dirt. Sacrifice on it the animals that you will burn completely. Also sacrifice on it the animals that you will not burn completely, to maintain fellowship with me. Worship me [MTY] in any place that I choose for you to honor/worship me; and if you do that, I will come to you and bless you.
25 and if altar stone to make to/for me not to build [obj] them cutting for sword your to wave upon her and to profane/begin: profane her
If you make for me an altar from stones, do not make it from stones that you have cut [to make them look nice], because you will make the altar unsuitable for [worshiping] me if you use tools to cut the stones.
26 and not to ascend: rise in/on/with step upon altar my which not to reveal: uncover nakedness your upon him
Do not make an altar that has steps in front of it, because if you do that, [people] could see your naked [buttocks] as you go up the steps.’”
