Ru-bên, Si-mê-ôn, Lê-vi, Giu-đa,
3 Issachar Zebulun and Benjamin
Y-sa-ca, Sa-bu-luân, Bên-gia-min,
4 Dan and Naphtali Gad and Asher
Đan, Nép-ta-li, Gát, và A-se.
5 and to be all soul: person to come out: produce thigh Jacob seventy soul: person and Joseph to be in/on/with Egypt
Tổng số con cháu Gia-cốp theo ông lúc ấy là bảy mươi, còn Giô-sép đã ở Ai Cập từ trước.
6 and to die Joseph and all brother: male-sibling his and all [the] generation [the] he/she/it
Giô-sép và các anh em lần lượt qua đời.
7 and son: descendant/people Israel be fruitful and to swarm and to multiply and be vast in/on/with much much and to fill [the] land: country/planet with them
Nhưng con cháu họ sinh sôi nẩy nở rất nhanh chóng, trở thành một dân tộc lớn mạnh, tràn lan khắp vùng.
8 and to arise: rise king new upon Egypt which not to know [obj] Joseph
Lúc đó, Ai Cập có một vua mới. Vua này không biết gì về Giô-sép cả.
9 and to say to(wards) people his behold people son: descendant/people Israel many and mighty from us
Vua nói với dân chúng: “Người Ít-ra-ên có thể còn đông và mạnh hơn dân ta nữa.
10 to give [emph?] be wise to/for him lest to multiply and to be for to encounter: chanced battle and to add also he/she/it upon to hate us and to fight in/on/with us and to ascend: rise from [the] land: country/planet
Nếu ta không khôn khéo đối phó và chặn đứng việc gia tăng dân số của họ, một mai chiến tranh bùng nổ, họ sẽ theo địch chống ta rồi kéo nhau đi hết.”

Nhưng càng bị hành hạ, họ càng sinh sôi nảy nở.

Người Ai Cập lo hoảng, bắt họ làm việc càng thêm nhọc nhằn, làm cho đời họ đắng cay.

Trong công việc nhồi đất, nung gạch và mọi việc đồng áng, họ bị đối xử cách cay nghiệt, bạo tàn.

Pha-ra-ôn, vua Ai Cập, ra lệnh cho các cô đỡ của người Hê-bơ-rơ là Siếp-ra và Phu-a

phải giết tất cả các con trai sơ sinh của người Hê-bơ-rơ, còn con gái thì tha cho sống.

Nhưng các cô đỡ kính sợ Đức Chúa Trời, bất tuân lệnh vua, không sát hại các con trai sơ sinh nhưng vẫn cứ để cho chúng sống.
18 and to call: call to king Egypt to/for to beget and to say to/for them why? to make: do [the] word: thing [the] this and to live [obj] [the] youth
Vua Ai Cập đòi các cô đỡ đến để tra hỏi lý do.

Các cô tâu: “Đàn bà Hê-bơ-rơ sinh nở rất dễ, không như đàn bà Ai Cập; khi chúng tôi đến nơi, họ đã sinh rồi.”

Đức Chúa Trời ban phước cho các cô đỡ. Còn người Ít-ra-ên thì cứ gia tăng, ngày càng đông đúc.
21 and to be for to fear: revere [the] to beget [obj] [the] God and to make: offer to/for them house: household
Và vì các cô đỡ kính sợ Đức Chúa Trời, Ngài cho họ có gia đình phước hạnh.
22 and to command Pharaoh to/for all people his to/for to say all [the] son: child [the] born [the] Nile [to] to throw him and all [the] daughter to live [emph?]
Sau đó, Pha-ra-ôn truyền lệnh cho toàn dân Ai Cập: “Ném tất cả các con trai sơ sinh của người Hê-bơ-rơ xuống sông Nin, nhưng tha cho con gái được sống.”
