< 2 Samuel 2 >

1 and to be after so and to ask David in/on/with LORD to/for to say to ascend: rise in/on/with one city Judah and to say LORD to(wards) him to ascend: rise and to say David where? to ascend: rise and to say Hebron [to]
And it comes to pass afterward, that David inquires of YHWH, saying, “Do I go up into one of the cities of Judah?” And YHWH says to him, “Go up.” And David says, “To where do I go up?” And He says, “To Hebron.”
2 and to ascend: rise there David and also two woman: wife his Ahinoam [the] Jezreel and Abigail woman: wife Nabal [the] Carmelite
And David goes up there, and also his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail wife of Nabal the Carmelite;
3 and human his which with him to ascend: establish David man: anyone and house: household his and to dwell in/on/with city Hebron
and David has brought up his men who [are] with him—a man and his household—and they dwell in the cities of Hebron.
4 and to come (in): come human Judah and to anoint there [obj] David to/for king upon house: household Judah and to tell to/for David to/for to say human Jabesh (Jabesh)-gilead which to bury [obj] Saul
And the men of Judah come, and anoint David there for king over the house of Judah; and they declare to David, saying, “The men of Jabesh-Gilead [are] they who buried Saul.”
5 and to send: depart David messenger to(wards) human Jabesh (Jabesh)-gilead and to say to(wards) them to bless you(m. p.) to/for LORD which to make: do [the] kindness [the] this with lord your with Saul and to bury [obj] him
And David sends messengers to the men of Jabesh-Gilead and says to them, “Blessed [are] you of YHWH, in that you have done this kindness with your lord, with Saul, that you bury him.
6 and now to make: do LORD with you kindness and truth: faithful and also I to make: do with you [the] welfare [the] this which to make: do [the] word: thing [the] this
And now YHWH does kindness and truth with you, and I also do this good with you because you have done this thing;
7 and now to strengthen: strengthen hand your and to be to/for son: warrior strength for to die lord your Saul and also [obj] me to anoint house: household Judah to/for king upon them
and now your hands are strong, and be for sons of valor, for your lord Saul [is] dead, and the house of Judah has also anointed me for king over them.”
8 and Abner son: child Ner ruler army which to/for Saul to take: take [obj] Ish-bosheth Ish-bosheth son: child Saul and to pass: bring him Mahanaim
And Abner, son of Ner, head of the host which Saul has, has taken Ish-Bosheth, son of Saul, and causes him to pass over to Mahanaim,
9 and to reign him to(wards) [the] Gilead and to(wards) [the] Ashurite and to(wards) Jezreel and upon Ephraim and upon Benjamin and upon Israel all his
and causes him to reign over Gilead, and over the Ashurite, and over Jezreel, and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over Israel—all of it.
10 son: child forty year Ish-bosheth Ish-bosheth son: aged Saul in/on/with to reign he upon Israel and two year to reign surely house: household Judah to be after David
Ish-Bosheth son of Saul [is] a son of forty years in his reigning over Israel, and he has reigned [for] two years; only the house of Judah has been after David.
11 and to be number [the] day which to be David king in/on/with Hebron upon house: household Judah seven year and six month
And the number of the days that David has been king in Hebron, over the house of Judah, is seven years and six months.
12 and to come out: come Abner son: child Ner and servant/slave Ish-bosheth Ish-bosheth son: child Saul from Mahanaim Gibeon [to]
And Abner son of Ner goes out, and servants of Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, from Mahanaim to Gibeon.
13 and Joab son: child Zeruiah and servant/slave David to come out: come and to meet them upon pool Gibeon together and to dwell these upon [the] pool from this and these upon [the] pool from this
And Joab son of Zeruiah, and servants of David, have gone out, and they meet by the pool of Gibeon together, and sit down, these by the pool on this [side], and these by the pool on that [side].
14 and to say Abner to(wards) Joab to arise: rise please [the] youth and to laugh to/for face: before our and to say Joab to arise: rise
And Abner says to Joab, “Now let the youths rise and they play before us”; and Joab says, “Let them rise.”
15 and to arise: rise and to pass in/on/with number two ten to/for Benjamin and to/for Ish-bosheth Ish-bosheth son: child Saul and two ten from servant/slave David
And they rise and pass over, in number twelve of Benjamin, even of Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David.
16 and to strengthen: hold man: anyone in/on/with head neighbor his and sword his in/on/with side neighbor his and to fall: fall together and to call: call by to/for place [the] he/she/it Helkath-hazzurim Helkath-hazzurim which in/on/with Gibeon
And they each lay hold on the head of his companion, and his sword [is] in the side of his companion, and they fall together, and [one] calls that place Helkath-Hazzurim, which [is] in Gibeon,
17 and to be [the] battle severe till much in/on/with day [the] he/she/it and to strike Abner and human Israel to/for face: before servant/slave David
and the battle is very hard on that day, and Abner is struck, and the men of Israel, before the servants of David.
18 and to be there three son: child Zeruiah Joab and Abishai and Asahel and Asahel swift in/on/with foot his like/as one [the] gazelle which in/on/with land: wildlife
And there are three sons of Zeruiah there: Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel; and Asahel [is] light on his feet, as one of the roes which [are] in the field,
19 and to pursue Asahel after Abner and not to stretch to/for to go: went upon [the] right and upon [the] left from after Abner
and Asahel pursues after Abner, and has not turned aside to go to the right or to the left, from after Abner.
20 and to turn Abner after him and to say you(m. s.) this Asahel and to say I
And Abner looks behind him and says, “Are you he—Asahel?” And he says, “I [am].”
21 and to say to/for him Abner to stretch to/for you upon right your or upon left your and to grasp to/for you one from [the] youth and to take: take to/for you [obj] spoil his and not be willing Asahel to/for to turn aside: turn aside from after him
And Abner says to him, “Turn aside to your right hand or to your left, and seize one of the youths for yourself, and take his armor for yourself”; and Asahel has not been willing to turn aside from after him.
22 and to add: again still Abner to/for to say to(wards) Asahel to turn aside: turn aside to/for you from after me to/for what? to smite you land: soil [to] and how? to lift: kindness face: kindness my to(wards) Joab brother: male-sibling your
And Abner adds again, saying to Asahel, “Turn aside from after me, why do I strike you to the earth? And how do I lift up my face to your brother Joab?”
23 and to refuse to/for to turn aside: turn aside and to smite him Abner in/on/with after [the] spear to(wards) [the] belly and to come out: come [the] spear from after him and to fall: fall there and to die (underneath: stand him *Q(K)*) and to be all [the] to come (in): come to(wards) [the] place which to fall: fall there Asahel and to die and to stand: stand
And he refuses to turn aside, and Abner strikes him with the back part of the spear to the fifth [rib], and the spear comes out from behind him, and he falls there, and dies under it; and it comes to pass, everyone who has come to the place where Asahel has fallen and dies—they stand still.
24 and to pursue Joab and Abishai after Abner and [the] sun to come (in): come and they(masc.) to come (in): come till hill Ammah which upon face: before Giah way: road wilderness Gibeon
And Joab and Abishai pursue after Abner, and the sun has gone in, and they have come to the height of Ammah, which [is] on the front of Giah, the way of the wilderness of Gibeon.
25 and to gather son: descendant/people Benjamin after Abner and to be to/for band one and to stand: stand upon head: top hill one
And the sons of Benjamin gather themselves together after Abner, and become one troop, and stand on the top of a certain height,
26 and to call: call out Abner to(wards) Joab and to say to/for perpetuity to eat sword not to know for bitter to be in/on/with last and till how not to say to/for people to/for to return: turn back from after brother: male-sibling their
and Abner calls to Joab and says, “Does the sword consume forever? Have you not known that it is bitterness in the latter end? And until when do you not say to the people to turn back from after their brothers?”
27 and to say Joab alive [the] God for unless to speak: speak for then from [the] morning to ascend: rise [the] people: soldiers man: anyone from after brother: male-sibling his
And Joab says, “God lives! For unless you had spoken, surely then from the morning each of the people had gone up from after his brother.”
28 and to blow Joab in/on/with trumpet and to stand: stand all [the] people: soldiers and not to pursue still after Israel and not to add: again still to/for to fight
And Joab blows with a horn, and all the people stand still, and no longer pursue after Israel, nor have they added to fight anymore.
29 and Abner and human his to go: went in/on/with Arabah all [the] night [the] he/she/it and to pass [obj] [the] Jordan and to go: walk all [the] Bithron and to come (in): come Mahanaim
And Abner and his men have gone through the plain all that night, and pass over the Jordan, and go on [through] all Bithron, and come to Mahanaim.
30 and Joab to return: return from after Abner and to gather [obj] all [the] people and to reckon: missing from servant/slave David nine ten man and Asahel Asahel
And Joab has turned back from after Abner, and gathers all the people, and there are lacking of the servants of David nineteen men, and Asahel;
31 and servant/slave David to smite from Benjamin and in/on/with human Abner three hundred and sixty man to die
and the servants of David have struck of Benjamin, even among the men of Abner, three hundred and sixty men—they died.
32 and to lift: raise [obj] Asahel and to bury him in/on/with grave father his which Bethlehem Bethlehem and to go: walk all [the] night Joab and human his and to light to/for them in/on/with Hebron
And they lift up Asahel, and bury him in the burying-place of his father, which [is] in Beth-Lehem, and they go all the night—Joab and his men—and [dawn’s light] shines on them in Hebron.
