1 in/on/with year eight ten to/for king Jeroboam and to reign Abijah upon Judah
When Jeroboam had been ruling [Israel] for almost 18 years, Abijah became the king of Judah.
2 three year to reign in/on/with Jerusalem and name mother his Micaiah daughter Uriel from Gibeah and battle to be between Abijah and between Jeroboam
He ruled in Jerusalem for three years. His mother was Micaiah (OR, Maacah), the daughter of Uriel from Gibeah [town]. There was a war between [the armies of] Abijah and Jeroboam.
3 and to bind Abijah [obj] [the] battle in/on/with strength: soldiers mighty man battle four hundred thousand man to choose and Jeroboam to arrange with him battle in/on/with eight hundred thousand man to choose mighty man strength
Abijah went into the battle, taking 400,000 of his capable soldiers, and Jeroboam prepared to fight them, taking 800,000 of his capable troops.
4 and to arise: rise Abijah from upon to/for mountain: mount (Mount) Zemaraim which in/on/with mountain: hill country Ephraim and to say to hear: hear me Jeroboam and all Israel
Abijah stood on the top of Zemaraim Mountain, which is in the hilly area that belonged to the tribe of Ephraim, and he shouted, “Jeroboam and all you other people of Israel, listen to me!
5 not to/for you to/for to know for LORD God Israel to give: give kingdom to/for David upon Israel to/for forever: enduring to/for him and to/for son: descendant/people his covenant salt
You should know that Yahweh, the God to whom all we Israelis belong, has appointed David and his descendants to be the kings of Israel forever. He has confirmed that by making a permanent agreement.
6 and to arise: rise Jeroboam son: child Nebat servant/slave Solomon son: child David and to rebel upon lord his
But Jeroboam, who was [only] an official of David’s son King Solomon, rebelled against his king.
7 and to gather upon him human worthless son: type of Belial and to strengthen upon Rehoboam son: child Solomon and Rehoboam to be youth and tender heart and not to strengthen: prevail over to/for face of their
And when Solomon’s son Rehoboam became king and was still young and inexperienced, a group of worthless scoundrels gathered around you, Jeroboam, and rebelled against Rehoboam.
8 and now you(m. p.) to say to/for to strengthen: prevail over to/for face: before kingdom LORD in/on/with hand: power son: descendant/people David and you(m. p.) crowd many and with you calf gold which to make to/for you Jeroboam to/for God
“And now you are planning to fight against the kingdom that Yahweh established to be governed by David’s descendants. It is true that you have a huge army, and you and your soldiers have brought with you the golden [statues of] calves that Jeroboam’s workers made to be gods for all of you.
9 not to banish [obj] priest LORD [obj] son: child Aaron and [the] Levi and to make to/for you priest like/as people [the] land: country/planet all [the] to come (in): come to/for to fill hand: donate his in/on/with bullock son: young animal cattle and ram seven and to be priest to/for not God
But you expelled the priests that Yahweh [appointed], men who are descendants of Aaron [the first Supreme Priest], and you expelled the descendants of Levi, and you appointed the priests that you wanted, like the people of other countries do. You allow anyone to become a priest of idols that are not gods if he comes to dedicate himself to be a priest by sacrificing a young bull and seven rams.
10 and we LORD God our and not to leave: forsake him and priest to minister to/for LORD son: child Aaron and [the] Levi in/on/with work
“As for us, Yahweh is our God, and we have not abandoned him. Our priests who serve Yahweh are descendants of Aaron, and the descendants of Levi assist them.
11 and to offer: offer to/for LORD burnt offering in/on/with morning in/on/with morning and in/on/with evening in/on/with evening and incense spice and row food: bread upon [the] table [the] pure and lampstand [the] gold and lamp her to/for to burn: burn in/on/with evening in/on/with evening for to keep: obey we [obj] charge LORD God our and you(m. p.) to leave: forsake [obj] him
Every morning and every evening they present to Yahweh offerings to be completely burned [on the altar], and they burn fragrant incense. [Each week] they place the sacred bread on the sacred table, and each morning they light the lamps that are on the gold lampstand. We are obeying what Yahweh our God requires us to do. But you have abandoned him.
12 and behold with us in/on/with head: leader [the] God and priest his and trumpet [the] shout to/for to shout upon you son: child Israel not to fight with LORD God father your for not to prosper
Yahweh is with us; he is our leader. The priests whom he has appointed will blow their trumpets to signal [that we are ready] to fight a battle against you. You Israeli men, do not fight against Yahweh, the God to whom your ancestors belonged, because you will not be successful and win the battle against him.”
13 and Jeroboam to turn: surround [obj] [the] ambush to/for to come (in): come from after them and to be to/for face: before Judah and [the] ambush from after them
[While he was speaking, ] Jeroboam sent some of his troops around the army of Judah. So while the soldiers who were with Jeroboam were in front of the army of Judah, the other soldiers of Israel were behind the army of Judah.
14 and to turn Judah and behold to/for them [the] battle face: before and back and to cry to/for LORD and [the] priest (to blow *Q(k)*) in/on/with trumpet
When the soldiers of Judah turned and saw that they were going to be attacked from the front and from the rear, they cried out to Yahweh. The priests blew their trumpets,
15 and to shout man Judah and to be in/on/with to shout man Judah and [the] God to strike [obj] Jeroboam and all Israel to/for face: before Abijah and Judah
and the men of Judah shouted a loud battle-cry. Then Yahweh [enabled Abijah and the army of Judah to] defeat Jeroboam and [the army of] Israel.
16 and to flee son: descendant/people Israel from face: before Judah and to give: give them God in/on/with hand: power their
The soldiers of Israel fled from the soldiers of Judah, and God enabled the army of Judah to defeat them.
17 and to smite in/on/with them Abijah and people his wound many and to fall: kill slain: killed from Israel five hundred thousand man to choose
Abijah and his troops struck the capable soldiers of Israel and killed 500,000 of them.
18 and be humble son: descendant/people Israel in/on/with time [the] he/she/it and to strengthen son: descendant/people Judah for to lean upon LORD God father their
So the soldiers of Israel were defeated, and the soldiers of Judah won the battle because they trusted in Yahweh, the God to whom their ancestors belonged.
19 and to pursue Abijah after Jeroboam and to capture from him city [obj] Bethel Bethel and [obj] daughter: village her and [obj] Jeshanah and [obj] daughter: village her and [obj] (Ephron *Q(K)*) and daughter: village her
Abijah’s army pursued the army of Jeroboam, and they captured from the people of Israel the cities of Bethel, Jeshanah, and Ephron, and the surrounding villages.
20 and not to restrain strength Jeroboam still in/on/with day Abijah and to strike him LORD and to die
During the remaining time that Abijah ruled, Jeroboam did not become powerful again. Then Yahweh caused him to become very ill, and he died.
21 and to strengthen: strengthen Abijah and to lift: marry to/for him woman: wife four ten and to beget twenty and two son: child and six ten daughter
But Abijah became more powerful. He married 14 wives and had 22 sons and 16 daughters.
22 and remainder word: deed Abijah and way: conduct his and word his to write in/on/with story [the] prophet Iddo
