< Revelation 18 >
1 (and *k*) After these things I saw another angel descending out of heaven, having authority great, and the earth was illuminated from the glory of him.
After these things I saw another angel coming down out of heaven, having great authority; and the earth was bright with his glory.
2 And he cried out in (a mighty *N(k)O*) voice (loud *K*) saying: Fallen Fallen is Babylon the great And she has become a habitation (of demons *N(k)O*) and a prison of every spirit unclean and a prison of every bird unclean (and a prison of every creature unclean *NO*) and hated,
And he gave a loud cry, saying, Babylon the great has come down from her high place, she has come to destruction and has become a place of evil spirits, and of every unclean spirit, and a hole for every unclean and hated bird.
3 For of the wine of the wrath of the sexual immorality of her (they have drunk *N(k)O*) all the nations, and the kings of the earth with her committed sexual immorality, and the merchants of the earth through the power of the sensuality of her were enriched.
For through the wine of the wrath of her evil desires all the nations have come to destruction; and the kings of the earth made themselves unclean with her, and the traders of the earth had their wealth increased by the power of her evil ways.
4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying: (do come *NK(o)*) you who [are] people of mine from her, so that not you may have fellowship in the sins of her, and of the plagues of her so that not you may receive;
And another voice from heaven came to my ears, saying, Come out of her, my people, so that you may have no part in her sins and in her punishments.
5 For (they were heaped *N(K)O*) in her sins as high as heaven, and has remembered God the iniquities of her.
For her sins have gone up even to heaven, and God has taken note of her evil-doing.
6 do give back to her as also she has rendered (to you *k*) and do pay back double (to her *k*) (the *no*) twofold according to the works of her. In the cup which she has mixed, do mix to her double.
Give to her as she gave, even an increased reward for her works; in the cup which was mixed by her, let there be mixed as much again for herself.
7 So much as she has glorified herself and lived in luxury, so much do give to her torment and misery, because in the heart of herself she says that I sit [as] a queen and a widow never I am and mourning certainly not shall I see.
As she gave glory to herself, and became more evil in her ways, in the same measure give her pain and weeping: for she says in her heart, I am seated here a queen, and am no widow, and will in no way see sorrow.
8 Because of this in one day will come the plagues of her, death and misery and famine, and with fire she will be burned up, because mighty [is the] Lord God the [One] (having judged *N(k)O*) her.
For this reason in one day will her troubles come, death and sorrow and need of food; and she will be completely burned with fire; for strong is the Lord God who is her judge.
9 And (they will weep *N(k)O*) ([for] her *k*) and they will wail for her the kings of the earth the [ones who] with her having committed sexual immorality and having lived luxuriously, when they may see the smoke of the burning of her
And the kings of the earth, who made themselves unclean with her, and in her company gave themselves up to evil, will be weeping and crying over her, when they see the smoke of her burning,
10 from afar standing because of the fear of the torment of her saying: Woe woe you who [are] the city great Babylon the city strong! For (in *k*) one hour has come the judgment of you.
Watching from far away, for fear of her punishment, saying, Sorrow, sorrow for Babylon, the great town, the strong town! for in one hour you have been judged.
11 And the merchants of the earth (weep *NK(o)*) and (they mourn *NK(o)*) for (her, *N(k)O*) because the cargo of them no [one] buys no longer no longer
And the traders of the earth are weeping and crying over her, because no man has any more desire for their goods,
12 cargo of gold and of silver and of stone precious and (of pearls *N(k)O*) and (of fine linen [things] *N(k)O*) and (of purple cloth *NK(o)*) and of silk and of scarlet and all wood citron and every article of ivory and every article of wood most precious and of bronze and of iron and of marble
Gold, and silver, and stones of great price, and jewels, and delicate linen, and robes of purple and silk and red; and perfumed wood, and every vessel of ivory, and every vessel made of fair wood, and of brass, and iron, and stone;
13 and cinnamon (and spice *NO*) and incense and myrrh and frankincense and wine and oil and finest flour and wheat and cattle and sheep and of horses and of chariots and of slaves and souls of men.
And sweet-smelling plants, and perfumes, and wine, and oil, and well crushed grain, and cattle and sheep; and horses and carriages and servants; and souls of men.
14 And the ripe fruit of you of the desire of the soul are departed from you, and all the sumptuous things and the splendid things (were destroyed *N(k)O*) from you, and no longer no longer certainly not them (they will find. *N(K)(o)*)
And the fruit of your soul's desire has gone from you, and all things delicate and shining have come to an end and will never again be seen.
15 The merchants of these things which having been enriched from her from afar will stand because of the fear of the torment of her weeping and mourning,
The traders in these things, by which their wealth was increased, will be watching far off for fear of her punishment, weeping and crying;
16 (and *k*) saying: Woe woe you who [are] the city great, which having been clothed with fine linen and purple and scarlet and adorned with (gold [things] *N(k)O*) and with stone precious and (with pearl! *N(K)O*)
Saying, Sorrow, sorrow for the great town, she who was clothed in delicate linen, and purple, and red; with ornaments of gold and stones of great price and jewels!
17 Since in one hour has been brought to desolation so great wealth. And every shipmaster and every [one] who on (a place *NO*) (of the *k*) (sailing *N(k)O*) (the multitudes *K*) and sailors and as many as the sea trade by at a distance stood
For in one hour such great wealth has come to nothing. And every shipmaster, and all who are sailing on the sea, and sailors and all who get their living by the sea, were watching from far away,
18 and (were crying out *NK(o)*) (seeing *N(k)O*) the smoke of the burning of her saying; What [is] like as the city great?
And crying out when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What town is like the great town?
19 And they cast dust upon the heads of them and (they were crying out *NK(o)*) weeping and mourning (and *o*) saying: Woe woe the city great, in which were enriched all those having ships in the sea through the wealth of her! Since in one hour she has been desolated.
And they put dust on their heads, and were sad, weeping and crying, and saying, Sorrow, sorrow for the great town, in which was increased the wealth of all who had their ships on the sea because of her great stores! for in one hour she is made waste.
20 do rejoice over (her, *N(k)O*) O heaven and you saints (and *no*) you apostles and you prophets, because did judge God the judgment for you against her.
Be glad over her, heaven, and you saints, and Apostles, and prophets; because she has been judged by God on your account.
21 And took up one angel a mighty stone like (a millstone *N(k)O*) great and cast [it] into the sea saying: Thus with violence will be cast down Babylon the great city and certainly not may be found any longer.
And a strong angel took up a stone like the great stone with which grain is crushed, and sent it into the sea, saying, So, with a great fall, will Babylon, the great town, come to destruction, and will not be seen any more at all.
22 And sound of harpists and musicians and flute players and trumpeters certainly not may be heard in you any longer, And any craftsmen of any craft certainly not may be found in you any longer, and [the] sound of a millstone certainly not may be heard in you any longer,
And the voice of players and makers of music will never again be sounding in you: and no worker, expert in art, will ever again be living in you; and there will be no sound of the crushing of grain any more at all in you;
23 And [the] light of lamp certainly not may shine in you any longer, and [the] voice of a bridegroom and a bride certainly not may be heard in you any longer, for the merchants of you were the great ones of the earth, because by the sorcery of you were deceived all the nations.
And never again will the shining of lights be seen in you; and the voice of the newly-married man and the bride will never again be sounding in you: for your traders were the lords of the earth, and by your evil powers were all the nations turned out of the right way.
24 And in her ([the] blood *N(k)O*) of prophets and of saints was found and of all those slain on the earth.
And in her was seen the blood of prophets and of saints, and of all who have been put to death on the earth.
