< Psalms 137 >
1 At [the] rivers of - Babylon there we sat also we wept when remembered we Zion.
By the waters of Babylon there we sat, and we wept at the thought of Zion.
2 On poplars in [the] midst of it we hung up harps our.
There on the poplars we hung our harps.
3 For there they asked us captors our words of a song and mockers our gladness sing for us one of [the] song[s] of Zion.
For there our captors called for a song: our tormentors, rejoicing, saying: ‘Sing us one of the songs of Zion.’
4 How? will we sing [the] song of Yahweh on ground of foreignness.
How can we sing the Lord’s song in the foreigner’s land?
5 If I will forget you O Jerusalem may it forget right [hand] my.
If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand wither.
6 May it cleave tongue my - to palate my if not I will remember you if not I will lift up Jerusalem above [the] chief of joy my.
May my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth, if I am unmindful of you, or don’t set Jerusalem above my chief joy.
7 Remember O Yahweh - to [the] people of Edom [the] day of Jerusalem who were saying lay bare - lay bare to the foundation in it.
Remember the Edomites, Lord, the day of Jerusalem’s fall, when they said, ‘Lay her bare, lay her bare, right down to her very foundation.’
8 O daughter of Babylon that is about to be destroyed how blessed! [is one] who he will repay to you dealing your that you dealt to us.
Babylon, despoiler, happy are those who pay you back for all you have done to us.
9 How blessed! - [is one] who he will seize and he will smash children your to the rock.
Happy are they who seize and dash your children against the rocks.
