Proverbs 17
1 [is] good A morsel dry and quietness with it more than a house full sacrifices of strife.
सुख-शांति के वातावरण में सूखी रोटी का भोजन कलहपूर्ण उत्सव-भोज से कहीं अधिक उत्तम है.
2 A servant [who] acts prudently he will rule over a son [who] acts shamefully and in among brothers he will share [the] inheritance.
चतुर, बुद्धिमान सेवक उस पुत्र पर शासन करेगा, जिसका चालचलन लज्जास्पद है.
3 A crucible [is] for silver and a smelting furnace [is] for gold and [is] testing hearts Yahweh.
चांदी की परख कुठाली से तथा स्वर्ण की भट्टी से की जाती है, किंतु हृदयों की परख याहवेह करते हैं.
4 An evil-doer [is] paying attention on a lip of wickedness deception [is] giving ear on a tongue of destruction.
दुष्ट अनर्थ में रुचि लेता रहता है; झूठा व्यक्ति विनाशकारी जीभ पर ध्यान देता है.
5 [one who] mocks the Poor [person] he reproaches maker his [a person] joyful for calamity not he will go unpunished.
जो निर्धन को उपहास का पात्र बनाता है, वह उसके सृजनहार का उपहास करता है; और जो दूसरों की विपत्ति को देख आनंदित होता है, निश्चयतः दंड प्राप्त करता है.
6 [are the] crown of Old [people] children of children and [are the] honor of children parents their.
वयोवृद्धों का गौरव उनके नाती-पोतों में होता है, तथा संतान का गौरव उनके माता-पिता में.
7 Not [is] suitable for a fool a lip of excellence indeed? for for a noble [person] a lip of deception.
अशोभनीय होती है मूर्ख द्वारा की गई दीर्घ बात; इससे कहीं अधिक अशोभनीय होती है प्रशासक द्वारा की गई झूठी बात.
8 [is] a stone of Favor the bribe in [the] eyes of owners its to all that he turns he prospers.
वह, जो घूस देता है, उसकी दृष्टि में घूस जादू-समान प्रभाव डालता है; इसके द्वारा वह अपना कार्य पूर्ण कर ही लेता है.
9 [one who] conceals A transgression [is] seeking love and [one who] repeats a matter [is] separating a close friend.
प्रेम का खोजी अन्य के अपराध पर आवरण डालता है, किंतु वह, जो अप्रिय घटना का उल्लेख बार-बार करता है, परम मित्रों तक में फूट डाल देता है.
10 It goes deep a rebuke in [one who] understands more than striking a fool a hundred [times].
बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति पर एक डांट का जैसा गहरा प्रभाव पड़ता है, मूर्ख पर वैसा प्रभाव सौ लाठी के प्रहारों से भी संभव नहीं है.
11 Only rebellion he seeks an evil [person] and a messenger cruel he will be sent in him.
दुष्ट का लक्ष्य मात्र विद्रोह ही हुआ करता है; इसके दमन के लिए क्रूर दूत भेजा जाना अनिवार्य हो जाता है.
12 May he meet a bear robbed of cubs a person and may not [he meet] a fool in foolishness his.
किसी मूर्ख की मूर्खता में उलझने से उत्तम यह होगा, कि उस रीछनी से सामना हो जाए, जिसके बच्चे छीन लिए गए हैं.
13 [one who] returns Evil for good not (it will depart *Q(k)*) evil from house his.
जो व्यक्ति किसी हितकार्य का प्रतिफल बुराई कार्य के द्वारा देता है, उसके परिवार में बुराई का स्थायी वास हो जाता है.
14 [is one who] lets out Water [the] beginning of strife and before it has broken out the dispute abandon.
कलह का प्रारंभ वैसा ही होता है, जैसा विशाल जल राशि का छोड़ा जाना; तब उपयुक्त यही होता है कि कलह के प्रारंभ होते ही वहां से पलायन कर दिया जाए.
15 [one who] justifies [the] wicked And [one who] condemns as guilty [the] righteous [are] [the] abomination of Yahweh also both of them.
याहवेह की दृष्टि में दोनों ही घृणित हैं; वह, जो दोषी को छोड़ देता है तथा जो धर्मी को दोषी घोषित कर देता है.
16 Why? this [is] a price in [the] hand of a fool to acquire wisdom and [is] heart there not.
ज्ञानवर्धन के लिए किसी मूर्ख के धन का क्या लाभ? जब उसे ज्ञान का मूल्य ही ज्ञात नहीं है.
17 At every time [is] loving the friend and a brother for adversity he is born.
मित्र वह है, जिसका प्रेम चिरस्थायी रहता है, और भाई का अस्तित्व विषम परिस्थिति में सहायता के लिए ही होता है.
18 A person lacking of heart [is] striking a palm [is] pledging a pledge before neighbor his.
वह मूर्ख ही होता है, जो हाथ पर हाथ मारकर शपथ करता तथा अपने पड़ोसी के लिए आर्थिक ज़मानत देता है.
19 [one who] loves Transgression [is] loving contention [one who] makes high entrance his [is] seeking ruin.
जो कोई झगड़े से प्यार रखता है, वह पाप से प्यार करता है; जो भी एक ऊंचा फाटक बनाता है विनाश को आमंत्रित करता है.
20 [a person] twisted of Heart not he finds good and [one who] is perverted in tongue his he falls in trouble.
कुटिल प्रवृत्ति का व्यक्ति अवश्य ही विपत्ति में जा पड़ेगा; वैसे ही वह भी, जो झूठ बोलने वाला है.
21 [one who] begets A fool to grief of him and not he rejoices [the] father of a fool.
वह, जो मन्दबुद्धि पुत्र को जन्म देता है, अपने ही ऊपर शोक ले आता है; मूर्ख के पिता के समक्ष आनंद का कोई विषय नहीं रह जाता.
22 A heart joyful it makes good healing and a spirit stricken it dries up bone[s].
आनंदित हृदय स्वास्थ्य देनेवाली औषधि है, किंतु टूटा दिल अस्थियों को तक सुखा देता है.
23 A bribe from [the] bosom a wicked [person] he accepts to turn aside [the] paths of justice.
दुष्ट गुप्त रूप से घूस लेता रहता है, कि न्याय की नीति को कुटिल कर दे.
24 [is] with [the] face of [one who] has understanding Wisdom and [the] eyes of a fool [are] at [the] end of [the] earth.
बुद्धिमान सदैव ज्ञान की ही खोज करता रहता है, किंतु मूर्ख का मस्तिष्क विचलित होकर सर्वत्र भटकता रहता है.
25 [is] grief To father his a son a fool and bitterness to [the] [one who] bore him.
मूर्ख पुत्र अपने पिता के लिए शोक का कारण होता है और जिसने उसे जन्म दिया है उसके हृदय की कड़वाहट का कारण.
26 Also to impose a fine to righteous [person] not [is] good to strike noble [people] [is] on uprightness.
यह कदापि उपयुक्त नहीं है कि किसी धर्मी को दंड दिया जाए, और न किसी सज्जन पर प्रहार किया जाए.
27 [one who] restrains Words his [is] knowing knowledge ([a person] noble of *Q(K)*) spirit [is] a person of understanding.
ज्ञानी जन शब्दों पर नियंत्रण रखता है, और समझदार जन शांत बना रहता है.
28 Also a fool [who] keeps silent wise he is considered [who] shuts lips his discerning.
जब तक मूर्ख मौन रहता है, बुद्धिमान माना जाता है, उसे उस समय तक बुद्धिमान समझा जाता है, जब तक वह वार्तालाप में सम्मिलित नहीं होता.
