< Numbers 31 >
1 And he spoke Yahweh to Moses saying.
And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying,
2 Avenge [the] vengeance of [the] people of Israel from with the Midianites (after *L(P)*) you will be gathered to people your.
Execute the vengeance of the children of Israel on the Midianites, after which thou shalt be gathered unto thy people.
3 And he spoke Moses to the people saying be equipped from with you men for war so they may be on Midian to give [the] vengeance of Yahweh on Midian.
And Moses spoke unto the people, saying, Arm from yourselves some men for the army, and let them go against the Midianites, to execute the vengeance of the Lord on Midian.
4 One thousand to the tribe one thousand to the tribe for all [the] tribes of Israel you will send out to war.
A thousand each for every tribe, of all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the army.
5 And they were selected from [the] thousands of Israel one thousand to the tribe two [plus] ten thousand armed [men] of war.
And there were levied out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for the army.
6 And he sent them Moses one thousand to the tribe to war them and Phinehas [the] son of Eleazar the priest to war and [the] vessels of the holy place and [the] trumpets of the alarm [were] in hand his.
And Moses sent them, a thousand of every tribe, to the army; them and Phinehas the son of Elazar the priest, to the army, with the holy vessels, and the trumpets for blowing the alarm in his hand.
7 And they waged war on Midian just as he had commanded Yahweh Moses and they killed every male.
And they marched out against the Midianites, as the Lord had commanded Moses; and they slew every male.
8 And [the] kings of Midian they killed with slain [ones] their Evi and Rekem and Zur and Hur and Reba [the] five [the] kings of Midian and Balaam [the] son of Beor they killed with the sword.
And the kings of Midian they slew, besides the rest of their men that were slain; namely, Evi and Rekem, and Zur, and Chur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian; and Bil'am the son of Beor they slew with the sword.
9 And they took captive [the] people of Israel [the] women of Midian and little one[s] their and all cattle their and all livestock their and all wealth their they plundered.
And the children of Israel took captives the women of Midian, and their little ones; and all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods, they took as spoil.
10 And all cities their in dwelling places their and all encampments their they burned with fire.
And all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their castles they burnt with fire.
11 And they took all the plunder and all the booty among humankind and among the livestock.
And they took all the spoil, and all the booty, both of men and of cattle.
12 And they brought to Moses and to Eleazar the priest and to [the] congregation of [the] people of Israel the captive[s] and the booty and the plunder to the camp to [the] plains of Moab which [were] at [the] Jordan of Jericho.
And they brought unto Moses, and to Elazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, the captives, and the booty, and the spoil, unto the camp, to the plains of Moab, which are by the Jordan opposite Jericho.
13 And they went out Moses and Eleazar the priest and all [the] leaders of the congregation to meet them to from [the] outside of the camp.
And Moses, and Elazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them, to without the camp.
14 And he was angry Moses towards [the] officers of the army [the] commanders of the thousands and [the] commanders of the hundreds who were coming from [the] war of the battle.
And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, the captains over the thousands, and the captains over the hundreds, who had come from the war-campaign.
15 And he said to them Moses ¿ have you let live every female.
And Moses said unto them, Have ye allowed all the females to live?
16 There! they they were to [the] people of Israel by [the] word of Balaam to offer unfaithfulness in Yahweh on [the] matter of Peor and it was the plague among [the] congregation of Yahweh.
Behold, these chiefly were the cause unto the children of Israel, through the counsel of Bil'am, to commit the gross trespass against the Lord in the matter of Peor; through which there was the plague among the congregation of the Lord.
17 And therefore kill every male among the little one[s] and every woman [who has] known a man to [the] lying of a male kill.
And now kill ye every male among the little ones, and every woman that hath known man by lying with him shall ye kill.
18 And all the little one[s] among the women who not they have known lying of a male preserve alive for yourselves.
But all among the women-children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
19 And you encamp from [the] outside of the camp seven days any [one who] has killed anyone and any - [one who] has touched the [one] slain you will purify yourselves on the day third and on the day seventh you and captive[s] your.
But ye, —you must abide without the camp seven days: all ye who have killed any person, and all who have touched any one slain, shall purify yourselves on the third day, and on the seventh day; both you and your captives.
20 And every garment and every article of hide and every product of goat hair and every article of wood you will purify yourselves.
And every garment, and whatever is made of skins, and every work of goats' hair, and every vessel made of wood, shall ye purify unto yourselves.
21 And he said Eleazar the priest to [the] men of the army who had gone to the battle this [is] [the] statute of the law which he commanded Yahweh Moses.
And Elazar the priest said unto the men of the army who had gone to the battle, This is the ordinance of the law which the Lord hath commanded Moses:
22 Only the gold and the silver the bronze the iron the tin and the lead.
Nevertheless the gold, and the silver, the copper, the iron, the tin, and the lead,
23 Every thing which it will go in the fire you will make pass in the fire and it will be pure nevertheless by [the] water of impurity it will purify itself and all that not it will go in the fire you will make pass in the water.
Every thing that cometh into the fire shall ye make go through the fire, and it shall be clean; only it shall be purified with the waters of sprinkling: and whatsoever doth not come into the fire shall ye cause to go through the water.
24 And you will wash clothes your on the day seventh and you will be pure and after you will come to the camp.
And ye shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean, and after that may ye come into the camp.
25 And he said Yahweh to Moses saying.
And the Lord said unto Moses, as followeth,
26 Lift up [the] head of [the] booty of captivity among humankind and among the livestock you and Eleazar the priest and [the] leaders of [the] fathers of the congregation.
Take the sum of the booty of the captives, both of man and of cattle, thou, with Elazar the priest, and the chiefs of the families of the congregation:
27 And you will divide the booty between [those] skilled of the battle who went out to war and between all the congregation.
And thou shalt divide the booty, between those that carried on the war, who went out to the army, and between all the congregation.
28 And you will raise a tax for Yahweh from with [the] men of war who went out to war one person from [the] five hundred from humankind and from the cattle and from the donkeys and from the sheep.
And thou shalt levy a tribute unto the Lord from the men of war who went out to the army, one individual from every five hundred, of the persons, and of the beef-cattle, and of the asses, and of the sheep;
29 From half their you will take [it] and you will give [it] to Eleazar the priest [the] contribution of Yahweh.
From their half shall ye take it; and thou shalt give it unto Elazar the priest, for a heave-offering of the Lord.
30 And from [the] half of [the] people of Israel you will take - one - [person] drawn from the fifty from humankind from the cattle from the donkeys and from the sheep from all the livestock and you will give them to the Levites [who] keep [the] service of [the] tabernacle of Yahweh.
And from the half of the children of Israel, shalt thou take one individual, as it may come, from any fifty, of the persons, of beef-cattle, of the asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of cattle; and thou shalt give the same unto the Levites, who keep the charge of the tabernacle of the Lord.
31 And he did Moses and Eleazar the priest just as he had commanded Yahweh Moses.
And Moses with Elazar the priest did, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
32 And it was the booty [the] remainder of the plunder which they had plundered [the] people of the army sheep six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand.
And the booty, being the rest of the spoil which the men of the army had taken, was of sheep and goats, six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand,
33 And cattle two and seventy thousand.
And of beef-cattle, seventy and two thousand,
34 And donkeys one and sixty thousand.
And of asses, sixty and one thousand,
35 And [the] person[s] of humankind from the women who not they had known lying of a male every person two and thirty thousand.
And of human persons, of women that had not known men by lying with him, in all thirty and two thousand.
36 And it was the half [the] portion of those [who] had gone out in the army [the] number of the sheep [was] three hundred thousand and thirty thousand and seven thousand and five hundred.
And the half, the portion of those who had gone out in the army, was, in the number of sheep and goats, three hundred thousand and seven and thirty thousand and five hundred.
37 And it was the tax for Yahweh from the sheep six hundred five and seventy.
And the tribute unto the Lord of the flocks was six hundred and seventy and five.
38 And the cattle [were] six and thirty thousand and tax their for Yahweh [was] two and seventy.
And the beef-cattle were thirty and six thousand; and the tribute thereof unto the Lord was seventy and two.
39 And donkeys [were] thirty thousand and five hundred and tax their for Yahweh [was] one and sixty.
And the asses were thirty thousand and five hundred; and the tribute thereof unto the Lord was sixty and one.
40 And [the] person[s] of humankind [were] six-teen thousand and tax their for Yahweh [was] two and thirty person[s].
And the human persons were sixteen thousand; and the tribute thereof unto the Lord was thirty and two persons.
41 And he gave Moses [the] tax of [the] contribution of Yahweh to Eleazar the priest just as he had commanded Yahweh Moses.
And Moses gave the tribute, the Lord's heave-offering, unto Elazar the priest, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
42 And from [the] half of [the] people of Israel which he had divided Moses from the men who had gone to war.
And from the half of the children of Israel, which Moses divided off from the men that had gone forth in the army, —
43 And it was [the] half of the congregation from the sheep three hundred thousand and thirty thousand seven thousand and five hundred.
(Now the half of the congregation was, of sheep and goats three hundred thousand and thirty thousand, seven thousand and five hundred.
44 And cattle six and thirty thousand.
And beef-cattle, thirty and six thousand,
45 And donkeys thirty thousand and five hundred.
And asses thirty thousand five hundred,
46 And person[s] of humankind six-teen thousand.
And human persons sixteen thousand; )
47 And he took Moses from [the] half of [the] people of Israel those drawn one from the fifty from humankind and from the livestock and he gave them to the Levites [who] keep [the] service of [the] tabernacle of Yahweh just as he had commanded Yahweh Moses.
And Moses took from this half of the children of Israel, as it came, one from every fifty, of man and of cattle, and gave the same unto the Levites, who kept the charge of the tabernacle of the Lord; as the Lord had commanded Moses.
48 And they drew near to Moses the officers who [were] of [the] thousands of the army [the] commanders of the thousands and [the] commanders of the hundreds.
And there came near unto Moses the officers who had been over the thousands of the army, the captains of the thousands, and the captains of the hundreds.
49 And they said to Moses servants your they have lifted up [the] head of [the] men of war who [were] in hand our and not he is missing from us anyone.
And they said unto Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war who have been under our command, and there lacketh not one man of us.
50 And we have brought near [the] offering of Yahweh everyone [that] which he found an article of gold an armlet and a bracelet a signet-ring an earring and an ornament to make atonement on selves our before Yahweh.
We have therefore brought an oblation unto the Lord, each what he hath gotten of vessels of gold, chains, and bracelets, finger-rings, earrings, and tablets, to make an atonement for our souls before the Lord.
51 And he took Moses and Eleazar the priest the gold from with them every article of work.
And Moses with Elazar the priest took the gold from them, all kinds of wrought articles.
52 And it was - all [the] gold of the contribution which they raised for Yahweh six-teen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekel[s] from with [the] commanders of the thousands and from with [the] commanders of the hundreds.
And all the gold of the offering that they offered up to the Lord, was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels, from the captains of the thousands, and from the captains of the hundreds.
53 [the] men of The army they had taken plunder everyone for himself.
The men of the army had taken spoil, every man for himself.
54 And he took Moses and Eleazar the priest the gold from with [the] commanders of the thousands and the hundreds and they brought it into [the] tent of meeting a memorial for [the] people of Israel before Yahweh.
And Moses and Elazar the priest took the gold from the captains of the thousands and of the hundreds, and they brought it into the tabernacle of the congregation, as a memorial for the children of Israel before the Lord.
