< Matthew 4 >

1 Then Jesus was led up into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted by the devil.
ⲁ̅ⲧⲟⲧⲉ ⲓⲏⲥ ⲁⲩϫⲓⲧϥ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲉⲣⲏⲙⲟⲥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲙ ⲡⲉⲡⲛⲁ ⲉⲧⲣⲉⲩⲡⲉⲓⲣⲁⲍⲉ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲙ ⲡⲇⲓⲁⲃⲟⲗⲟⲥ
2 And having fasted days forty and nights forty afterward He was hungry.
ⲃ̅ⲁϥⲛⲏⲥⲧⲉⲩⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲛϩⲙⲉ ⲛϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲙⲛ ϩⲙⲉ ⲛⲟⲩϣⲏ ⲙⲛⲛⲥⲱⲥ ⲁϥϩⲕⲟ
3 And having come the [one] tempting he said to Him; If Son You are of God, (do speak *NK(O)*) that stones these loaves of bread may become.
ⲅ̅ⲁϥϯ ⲡⲉϥⲟⲩⲟⲓ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡⲉⲧⲡⲉⲓⲣⲁⲍⲉ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲉϣϫⲉ ⲛⲧⲟⲕ ⲡⲉ ⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲁϫⲓⲥ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉⲣⲉⲛⲉⲓⲱⲛⲉ ⲣⲟⲉⲓⲕ
4 But answering He said; It has been written: Not by bread alone will live (the *no*) man, but (by *NK(o)*) every declaration coming out through [the] mouth of God.’
ⲇ̅ⲛⲧⲟϥ ⲇⲉ ⲁϥⲟⲩⲱϣⲃ ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ϥⲥⲏϩ ϫⲉ ⲛⲉⲣⲉⲡⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲛⲁⲱⲛϩ ⲁⲛ ⲉⲟⲉⲓⲕ ⲙⲁⲩⲁⲁϥ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲉϣⲁϫⲉ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲧⲛⲏⲩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲧⲧⲁⲡⲣⲟ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
5 Then takes Him the devil to the holy city and (set *N(k)O*) Him upon the pinnacle of the temple
ⲉ̅ⲧⲟⲧⲉ ⲁϥϫⲓ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡⲇⲓⲁⲃⲟⲗⲟⲥ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲡⲟⲗⲓⲥ ⲉⲧⲟⲩⲁⲁⲃ ⲁϥⲧⲁϩⲟ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲉⲣⲁⲧϥ ⲉϫⲙ ⲡⲧⲏⲛϩ ⲙⲡⲣⲡⲉ
6 and says to him; If Son You are of God, do throw Yourself down; it has been written for that To the angels of Him He will give orders concerning You, and in [their] hands will they bear up You otherwise otherwise You may strike against a stone the foot of You.’
ⲋ̅ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲉϣϫⲉ ⲛⲧⲟⲕ ⲡⲉ ⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲛⲟϫⲕ ⲉⲡⲉⲥⲏⲧ ⲉϫⲙ ⲡⲉⲓⲙⲁ ϥⲥⲏϩ ⲅⲁⲣ ϫⲉ ϥⲛⲁϩⲱⲛ ⲉⲧⲟⲟⲧⲟⲩ ⲛⲛⲉϥⲁⲅⲅⲉⲗⲟⲥ ⲉⲧⲃⲏⲏⲧⲕ ⲛⲥⲉϥⲓ ⲙⲙⲟⲕ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉϫⲛ ⲛⲉⲩϭⲓϫ ⲙⲏⲡⲟⲧⲉ ⲛⲅϫⲱⲣⲡ ⲉⲩⲱⲛⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲕⲟⲩⲉⲣⲏⲧⲉ
7 was saying to him Jesus; Again it has been written: Not you will test [the] Lord the God of you.’
ⲍ̅ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲟⲛ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲏⲥ ϫⲉ ϥⲥⲏϩ ⲟⲛ ϫⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲕⲡⲉⲓⲣⲁⲍⲉ ⲙⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲡⲉⲕⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
8 Again takes Him the devil to a mountain high exceedingly and shows to Him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them
ⲏ̅ⲡⲁⲗⲓⲛ ⲟⲛ ⲁϥϫⲓⲧϥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡⲇⲓⲁⲃⲟⲗⲟⲥ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉϫⲛ ⲟⲩⲧⲟⲟⲩ ⲉϥϫⲟⲥⲉ ⲉⲙⲁⲧⲉ ⲁϥⲧⲟⲩⲟϥ ⲉⲙⲙⲛⲧⲣⲣⲱⲟⲩ ⲧⲏⲣⲟⲩ ⲙⲡⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲉⲩⲉⲟⲟⲩ
9 and (he says *N(k)O*) to Him; These things to You all will I give, if falling down You shall worship me.
ⲑ̅ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲧⲏⲣⲟⲩ ϯⲛⲁⲧⲁⲁⲩ ⲛⲁⲕ ⲉⲕϣⲁⲛⲡⲁϩⲧⲕ ⲛⲅⲟⲩⲱϣⲧ ⲛⲁⲓ
10 Then says to him Jesus; do go away (behind me *O*) Satan; it has been written for: [The] Lord the God of you you will worship and Him alone will you serve.’
ⲓ̅ⲧⲟⲧⲉ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁϥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲏⲥ ϫⲉ ⲃⲱⲕ ⲡⲥⲁⲧⲁⲛⲁⲥ ϥⲥⲏϩ ⲅⲁⲣ ϫⲉ ⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲡⲉⲕⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲡⲉⲧⲕⲉⲟⲩⲱϣⲧ ⲛⲁϥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲧⲟϥ ⲙⲁⲩⲁⲁϥ ⲡⲉⲧⲕⲉϣⲙϣⲉ ⲛⲁϥ
11 Then leaves Him the devil, and behold angels came and they were ministering to Him.
ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ⲧⲟⲧⲉ ⲁϥⲕⲁⲁϥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡⲇⲓⲁⲃⲟⲗⲟⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲓⲥ ϩⲏⲏⲧⲉ ⲉⲓⲥ ⲛⲁⲅⲅⲉⲗⲟⲥ ⲁⲩⲉⲓ ⲁⲩⲇⲓⲁⲕⲟⲛⲉⲓ ⲛⲁϥ
12 Having heard now (Jesus *k*) that John was delivered up He withdrew into Galilee.
ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ⲁϥⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲇⲉ ϫⲉ ⲁⲩⲡⲁⲣⲁⲇⲓⲇⲟⲩ ⲛⲓⲱϩⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲁϥⲁⲛⲁⲭⲱⲣⲉⲓ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲅⲁⲗⲓⲗⲁⲓⲁ
13 And having left Nazareth, having come he dwelt at Capernaum which [is] on the sea-side in [the] region of Zebulun and of Naphtali,
ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ⲁϥⲕⲱ ⲛⲥⲱϥ ⲛⲛⲁⲍⲁⲣⲉⲑ ⲁϥⲉⲓ ⲁϥⲟⲩⲱϩ ϩⲛ ⲕⲁⲡⲁⲣⲛⲁⲟⲩⲙ ⲧⲁⲓ ⲉⲧϩⲁⲧⲛ ⲑⲁⲗⲁⲥⲥⲁ ϩⲛ ⲛⲧⲟϣ ⲛⲍⲁⲃⲟⲩⲗⲱⲛ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲉⲫⲑⲁⲗⲉⲓⲙ
14 that it may be fulfilled that having been spoken through Isaiah the prophet saying:
ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉϥⲉϫⲱⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁⲩϫⲟⲟϥ ϩⲓⲧⲛ ⲏⲥⲁⲓⲁⲥ ⲡⲉⲡⲣⲟⲫⲏⲧⲏⲥ ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ
15 Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, way of [the] sea beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles —
ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ϫⲉ ⲡⲕⲁϩ ⲛⲍⲁⲃⲟⲩⲗⲱⲛ ⲡⲕⲁϩ ⲛⲉⲫⲑⲁⲗⲉⲓⲙ ⲧⲉϩⲓⲏ ⲛⲑⲁⲗⲁⲥⲥⲁ ⲡⲉⲕⲣⲟ ⲙⲡⲉⲓⲟⲣⲇⲁⲛⲏⲥ ⲧⲅⲁⲗⲓⲗⲁⲓⲁ ⲛⲛϩⲉⲑⲛⲟⲥ
16 The nation the [one] sitting in (darkness *NK(o)*) light have seen great, and to those sitting in [the] land and in a shadow of death a light has dawned on them.
ⲓ̅ⲋ̅ⲡⲗⲁⲟⲥ ⲉⲧϩⲙⲟⲟⲥ ϩⲙ ⲡⲕⲁⲕⲉ ⲁϥⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲩⲛⲟϭ ⲛⲟⲩⲟⲉⲓⲛ ⲛⲉⲧⲟⲩⲏϩ ϩⲛ ⲧⲉⲭⲱⲣⲁ ⲙⲛ ⲑⲁⲓⲃⲉⲥ ⲙⲡⲙⲟⲩ ⲡⲟⲩⲟⲉⲓⲛ ⲁϥϣⲁ ⲛⲁⲩ
17 From that time began Jesus to proclaim and to say; do repent; has drawn near for the kingdom of the heavens.
ⲓ̅ⲍ̅ϫⲓⲛ ⲡⲉⲩⲟⲉⲓϣ ⲉⲧⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲁϥⲁⲣⲭⲉⲓ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲏⲥ ⲉⲧⲁϣⲉⲟⲉⲓϣ ⲁϥⲱ ⲉϫⲟⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲙⲉⲧⲁⲛⲟⲉⲓ ⲁⲥϩⲱⲛ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲛϭⲓ ⲧⲙⲛⲧⲣⲣⲟ ⲛⲙⲡⲏⲩⲉ
18 Walking now (Jesus *k*) beside the Sea of Galilee He saw two brothers, Simon the [one] being named Peter and Andrew the brother of him casting a net into the sea; they were for fishermen.
ⲓ̅ⲏ̅ⲉϥⲙⲟⲟϣⲉ ⲇⲉ ϩⲁⲧⲛ ⲑⲁⲗⲁⲥⲥⲁ ⲛⲧⲅⲁⲗⲓⲗⲁⲓⲁ ⲁϥⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲥⲟⲛ ⲥⲛⲁⲩ ⲥⲓⲙⲱⲛ ⲡⲉⲧⲉ ϣⲁⲩⲙⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲉⲧⲣⲟⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲁⲛⲇⲣⲉⲁⲥ ⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲛ ⲉⲩϩⲓϣⲛⲉ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉⲑⲁⲗⲁⲥⲥⲁ ϫⲉ ⲛⲉϩⲉⲛⲟⲩⲱϩⲉ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲛⲉ
19 And He says to them; Come after Me, and I will make you fishers of men.
ⲓ̅ⲑ̅ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲁⲙⲏⲓⲧⲛ ⲟⲩⲉϩⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲛⲥⲱⲓ ⲧⲁⲣⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲛⲟⲩⲱϩⲉ ⲛⲣⲱⲙⲉ
20 And immediately having left the nets they followed Him.
ⲕ̅ⲛⲧⲟⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲩⲛⲟⲩ ⲁⲩⲕⲱ ⲛⲛⲉⲩϣⲛⲏⲩ ⲁⲩⲟⲩⲁϩⲟⲩ ⲛⲥⲱϥ
21 And having gone on from there He saw others two brothers, James the [son] of Zebedee and John the brother of him in the boat with Zebedee the father of them mending the nets of them, and He called them.
ⲕ̅ⲁ̅ⲁϥⲙⲟⲟϣⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲟⲛ ⲉⲑⲏ ⲛⲕⲉⲕⲟⲩⲓ ⲁϥⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲕⲉⲥⲟⲛ ⲥⲛⲁⲩ ⲓⲁⲕⲱⲃⲟⲥ ⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲛⲍⲉⲃⲉⲇⲁⲓⲟⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲓⲱϩⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲛ ϩⲣⲁⲓ ϩⲙ ⲡϫⲟⲓ ⲙⲛ ⲍⲉⲃⲉⲇⲁⲓⲟⲥ ⲡⲉⲩⲉⲓⲱⲧ ⲉⲩⲥⲟϥⲧⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲩϣⲛⲏⲩ ⲁϥⲙⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲣⲟⲟⲩ
22 And immediately having left the boat and the father of them they followed Him.
ⲕ̅ⲃ̅ⲛⲧⲟⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲩⲛⲟⲩ ⲁⲩⲕⲱ ⲛⲛⲉⲩϣⲛⲏⲩ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲉⲩⲉⲓⲱⲧ ⲁⲩⲟⲩⲁϩⲟⲩ ⲛⲥⲱϥ
23 And He was going (through *no*) (all Galilee *N(k)O*) (Jesus *ko*) teaching in the synagogues of them and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.
ⲕ̅ⲅ̅ⲁϥⲉⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲧⲅⲁⲗⲓⲗⲁⲓⲁ ⲧⲏⲣⲥ ⲉϥϯ ⲥⲃⲱ ϩⲣⲁⲓ ϩⲛ ⲛⲉⲩⲥⲩⲛⲁⲅⲱⲅⲏ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉϥⲧⲁϣⲉⲟⲉⲓϣ ⲙⲡⲉⲩⲁⲅⲅⲉⲗⲓⲟⲛ ⲛⲧⲙⲛⲧⲣⲣⲟ ⲉϥⲣⲡⲁϩⲣⲉ ⲉϣⲱⲛⲉ ⲛⲓⲙ ϩⲓⲗⲟϫⲗϫ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲧϩⲙ ⲡⲗⲁⲟⲥ
24 And went out the news of Him into all Syria; And they brought to Him all the sick having various diseases and by pains oppressing, and those being demonised and those being epileptic and those paralytic; and He healed them.
ⲕ̅ⲇ̅ⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲉⲓⲧ ⲁϥⲃⲱⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲧⲥⲩⲣⲓⲁ ⲧⲏⲣⲥ ⲁⲩⲉⲓⲛⲉ ⲛⲁϥ ⲛⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲧⲙⲟⲕϩ ϩⲛ ϩⲉⲛϣⲱⲛⲉ ⲉⲩϣⲟⲃⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲩϣⲟⲟⲡ ϩⲛ ϩⲉⲛⲧⲕⲁⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲉⲧⲟ ⲛⲇⲁⲓⲙⲱⲛⲓⲟⲛ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲉⲧϩⲓⲧⲉ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲉⲧⲥⲏϭ ⲁϥⲣⲡⲁϩⲣⲉ ⲉⲣⲟⲟⲩ
25 And followed Him crowds great from Galilee and [the] Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judea and beyond the Jordan.
