< Matthew 12 >
1 At that [very] time went Jesus on the Sabbaths through the grainfields; and the disciples of Him hungered and they began to pluck [the] heads of grain and to eat.
Ἐν ἐκείνῳ τῷ καιρῷ ἐπορεύθη ὁ Ἰησοῦς τοῖς σάββασιν διὰ τῶν σπορίμων· οἱ δὲ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ἐπείνασαν καὶ ἤρξαντο τίλλειν στάχυας καὶ ἐσθίειν.
2 And the Pharisees having seen they said to Him; Behold the disciples of You are doing what not it is lawful to do on Sabbath.
οἱ δὲ Φαρισαῖοι ἰδόντες εἶπαν αὐτῷ· Ἰδοὺ οἱ μαθηταί σου ποιοῦσιν ὃ οὐκ ἔξεστιν ποιεῖν ἐν σαββάτῳ.
3 He then said to them; Surely you have read what did David when he was hungry (he himself *k*) and those with him?
ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Οὐκ ἀνέγνωτε τί ἐποίησεν Δαυὶδ ὅτε ⸀ἐπείνασενκαὶ οἱ μετʼ αὐτοῦ;
4 how he entered into the house of God and the loaves of the presentation (they ate, *N(K)O*) (that which *N(k)O*) not lawful it was for him to eat nor for those with him only except for the priests alone?
πῶς εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ τοὺς ἄρτους τῆς προθέσεως ⸂ἔφαγον, ὃ οὐκ ἐξὸν ἦν αὐτῷ φαγεῖν οὐδὲ τοῖς μετʼ αὐτοῦ, εἰ μὴ τοῖς ἱερεῦσιν μόνοις;
5 Or surely have you read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple the Sabbath profane and guiltless are?
ἢ οὐκ ἀνέγνωτε ἐν τῷ νόμῳ ὅτι τοῖς σάββασιν οἱ ἱερεῖς ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ τὸ σάββατον βεβηλοῦσιν καὶ ἀναίτιοί εἰσιν;
6 I say however to you that than the temple (a greater *N(k)O*) is here.
λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν ὅτι τοῦ ἱεροῦ μεῖζόν ἐστιν ὧδε.
7 If however you had known what is; (mercy *N(k)O*) I desire and not [desire] sacrifice,’ not then would you have condemned the guiltless.
εἰ δὲ ἐγνώκειτε τί ἐστιν· Ἔλεος θέλω καὶ οὐ θυσίαν, οὐκ ἂν κατεδικάσατε τοὺς ἀναιτίους.
8 lord for is (and *k*) of the Sabbath the Son of Man.
κύριος γάρ ἐστιν τοῦ σαββάτου ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου.
9 And having departed from there He went into the synagogue of them.
Καὶ μεταβὰς ἐκεῖθεν ἦλθεν εἰς τὴν συναγωγὴν αὐτῶν·
10 And behold a man (was *k*) a hand having withered; And they asked Him saying; Is it is lawful on the Sabbaths (to heal? *N(k)O*) so that they may accuse Him.
καὶ ἰδοὺ ⸀ἄνθρωποςχεῖρα ἔχων ξηράν. καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν λέγοντες· Εἰ ἔξεστι τοῖς σάββασιν ⸀θεραπεύειν ἵνα κατηγορήσωσιν αὐτοῦ.
11 He then said to them; Who will there be among you man who will have sheep one, and if shall fall it on the Sabbaths into a pit, surely he will take hold of it and will raise [it] up?
ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Τίς ⸀ἔσταιἐξ ὑμῶν ἄνθρωπος ὃς ἕξει πρόβατον ἕν, καὶ ἐὰν ἐμπέσῃ τοῦτο τοῖς σάββασιν εἰς βόθυνον, οὐχὶ κρατήσει αὐτὸ καὶ ἐγερεῖ;
12 How much therefore is more valuable a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful on the Sabbaths good to do.
πόσῳ οὖν διαφέρει ἄνθρωπος προβάτου. ὥστε ἔξεστιν τοῖς σάββασιν καλῶς ποιεῖν.
13 Then He says to the man; do stretch out your hand. And he stretched [it] out, and it was restored sound as the other.
τότε λέγει τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ· Ἔκτεινόν ⸂σου τὴν χεῖρα· καὶ ἐξέτεινεν, καὶ ἀπεκατεστάθη ὑγιὴς ὡς ἡ ἄλλη.
14 Having gone out now the Pharisees a counsel held against Him how Him they may destroy.
⸂ἐξελθόντες δὲ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι συμβούλιον ἔλαβον κατʼ αὐτοῦ ὅπως αὐτὸν ἀπολέσωσιν.
15 And Jesus having known He withdrew from there, And followed Him multitudes great, and He healed them all
Ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς γνοὺς ἀνεχώρησεν ἐκεῖθεν. καὶ ἠκολούθησαν ⸀αὐτῷπολλοί, καὶ ἐθεράπευσεν αὐτοὺς πάντας,
16 and He warned them that not known Him they may make —
καὶ ἐπετίμησεν αὐτοῖς ἵνα μὴ φανερὸν αὐτὸν ποιήσωσιν,
17 (so that *N(k)O*) may be fulfilled that having been spoken through Isaiah the prophet saying;
⸀ἵναπληρωθῇ τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ Ἠσαΐου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος·
18 Behold the servant of Mine whom I have chosen, the beloved of Mine (in whom *NK(o)*) has found delight the soul of Mine. I will put the Spirit of Mine upon Him, and justice to the Gentiles He will proclaim.
Ἰδοὺ ὁ παῖς μου ὃν ᾑρέτισα, ὁ ἀγαπητός μου ⸂εἰς ὃν εὐδόκησεν ἡ ψυχή μου· θήσω τὸ πνεῦμά μου ἐπʼ αὐτόν, καὶ κρίσιν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν ἀπαγγελεῖ.
19 Not will He quarrel nor will he cry out, nor will hear anyone in the streets the voice of Him.
οὐκ ἐρίσει οὐδὲ κραυγάσει, οὐδὲ ἀκούσει τις ἐν ταῖς πλατείαις τὴν φωνὴν αὐτοῦ.
20 A reed bruised not He will break and a wick smoldering not He will quench until when He shall lead to victory justice.
κάλαμον συντετριμμένον οὐ κατεάξει καὶ λίνον τυφόμενον οὐ σβέσει, ἕως ἂν ἐκβάλῃ εἰς νῖκος τὴν κρίσιν.
21 And (in *k*) in the name of Him [the] Gentiles will hope.
καὶ τῷ ὀνόματι αὐτοῦ ἔθνη ἐλπιοῦσιν.
22 Then (was brought *NK(O)*) to Him ([one] being demonised blind *NK(O)*) and (mute, *NK(O)*) and He healed him in order for the (blind and *k*) mute [man] (and *k*) to speak and to see.
Τότε ⸂προσηνέχθη αὐτῷ δαιμονιζόμενος τυφλὸς καὶ κωφός· καὶ ἐθεράπευσεν αὐτόν, ὥστε τὸν ⸀κωφὸνλαλεῖν καὶ βλέπειν.
23 And were amazed all the crowds and were saying; surely not ever this is the Son of David?
καὶ ἐξίσταντο πάντες οἱ ὄχλοι καὶ ἔλεγον· Μήτι οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς Δαυίδ;
24 And the Pharisees having heard said; This [man] not casts out the demons only except by Beelzebul prince of the demons.
οἱ δὲ Φαρισαῖοι ἀκούσαντες εἶπον· Οὗτος οὐκ ἐκβάλλει τὰ δαιμόνια εἰ μὴ ἐν τῷ Βεελζεβοὺλ ἄρχοντι τῶν δαιμονίων.
25 knowing now (Jesus *k*) the thoughts of them He said to them; Every kingdom having been divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house having been divided against itself not will stand.
εἰδὼς ⸀δὲτὰς ἐνθυμήσεις αὐτῶν εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Πᾶσα βασιλεία μερισθεῖσα καθʼ ἑαυτῆς ἐρημοῦται, καὶ πᾶσα πόλις ἢ οἰκία μερισθεῖσα καθʼ ἑαυτῆς οὐ σταθήσεται.
26 And if Satan Satan casts out, against himself he is divided; How then will stand the kingdom of him?
καὶ εἰ ὁ Σατανᾶς τὸν Σατανᾶν ἐκβάλλει, ἐφʼ ἑαυτὸν ἐμερίσθη· πῶς οὖν σταθήσεται ἡ βασιλεία αὐτοῦ;
27 And if I myself by Beelzebul cast out demons, the sons of you by whom do they cast out? On account of this they themselves judges will be of you.
καὶ εἰ ἐγὼ ἐν Βεελζεβοὺλ ἐκβάλλω τὰ δαιμόνια, οἱ υἱοὶ ὑμῶν ἐν τίνι ἐκβάλλουσιν; διὰ τοῦτο αὐτοὶ ⸂κριταὶ ἔσονται ὑμῶν.
28 If however by [the] Spirit of God I myself cast out demons, then has come upon you the kingdom of God.
εἰ δὲ ἐν πνεύματι θεοῦ ἐγὼ ἐκβάλλω τὰ δαιμόνια, ἄρα ἔφθασεν ἐφʼ ὑμᾶς ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ.
29 Or how is able anyone to enter into the house of the strong [man] and the goods of him (to plunder, *N(k)O*) only unless first he shall bind the strong [man]? And then the house of him (he will rob. *NK(O)*)
ἢ πῶς δύναταί τις εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν τοῦ ἰσχυροῦ καὶ τὰ σκεύη αὐτοῦ ⸀ἁρπάσαι ἐὰν μὴ πρῶτον δήσῃ τὸν ἰσχυρόν; καὶ τότε τὴν οἰκίαν αὐτοῦ ⸀διαρπάσει
30 The [one] not being with Me against Me is, and the [one] not gathering with Me scatters.
ὁ μὴ ὢν μετʼ ἐμοῦ κατʼ ἐμοῦ ἐστιν, καὶ ὁ μὴ συνάγων μετʼ ἐμοῦ σκορπίζει.
31 Because of this I say to you; every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven to men, however against the Spirit blasphemy not will be forgiven (to the men. *k*)
διὰ τοῦτο λέγω ὑμῖν, πᾶσα ἁμαρτία καὶ βλασφημία ἀφεθήσεταιτοῖς ἀνθρώποις, ἡ δὲ τοῦ πνεύματος βλασφημία οὐκ ⸀ἀφεθήσεται.
32 And who[ever] (if *N(k)O*) shall speak a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven to him; who[ever] now maybe shall speak against Spirit the Holy, not it will be forgiven to him neither in this (present *O*) age nor in the [one] coming. (aiōn )
καὶ ὃς ἐὰν εἴπῃ λόγον κατὰ τοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου, ἀφεθήσεται αὐτῷ· ὃς δʼ ἂν εἴπῃ κατὰ τοῦ πνεύματος τοῦ ἁγίου, οὐκ ἀφεθήσεται αὐτῷ οὔτε ἐν ⸂τούτῳ τῷ αἰῶνι οὔτε ἐν τῷ μέλλοντι. (aiōn )
33 Either do make the tree good and the fruit of it good, or do make the tree bad and the fruit of it bad; by for the fruit the tree is known.
Ἢ ποιήσατε τὸ δένδρον καλὸν καὶ τὸν καρπὸν αὐτοῦ καλόν, ἢ ποιήσατε τὸ δένδρον σαπρὸν καὶ τὸν καρπὸν αὐτοῦ σαπρόν· ἐκ γὰρ τοῦ καρποῦ τὸ δένδρον γινώσκεται.
34 Offspring of vipers, how are you able good things to speak evil being? Out of for the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.
γεννήματα ἐχιδνῶν, πῶς δύνασθε ἀγαθὰ λαλεῖν πονηροὶ ὄντες; ἐκ γὰρ τοῦ περισσεύματος τῆς καρδίας τὸ στόμα λαλεῖ.
35 The good man out of good treasure (of [his] heart *K*) puts forth (*k*) good things, and the evil man out of [his] evil treasure puts forth evil things.
ὁ ἀγαθὸς ἄνθρωπος ἐκ τοῦ ἀγαθοῦ θησαυροῦ ἐκβάλλει ἀγαθά, καὶ ὁ πονηρὸς ἄνθρωπος ἐκ τοῦ πονηροῦ θησαυροῦ ἐκβάλλει πονηρά.
36 I say now to you that every declaration careless that (if *k*) (will speak *N(k)O*) men, they will give of it an account in day of judgment.
λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν ὅτι πᾶν ῥῆμα ἀργὸν ὃ ⸀λαλήσουσινοἱ ἄνθρωποι, ἀποδώσουσιν περὶ αὐτοῦ λόγον ἐν ἡμέρᾳ κρίσεως·
37 By for the words of you you will be justified and by the words of you you will be condemned.
ἐκ γὰρ τῶν λόγων σου δικαιωθήσῃ, καὶ ἐκ τῶν λόγων σου καταδικασθήσῃ.
38 Then answered (to him *no*) some of the scribes and Pharisees saying; Teacher, we wish from You a sign to see.
Τότε ἀπεκρίθησαν ⸀αὐτῷτινες τῶν γραμματέων καὶ Φαρισαίων λέγοντες· Διδάσκαλε, θέλομεν ἀπὸ σοῦ σημεῖον ἰδεῖν.
39 And answering He said to them; A generation evil and adulterous a sign seeks for; and a sign not will be given to it only except the sign of Jonah the prophet.
ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Γενεὰ πονηρὰ καὶ μοιχαλὶς σημεῖον ἐπιζητεῖ, καὶ σημεῖον οὐ δοθήσεται αὐτῇ εἰ μὴ τὸ σημεῖον Ἰωνᾶ τοῦ προφήτου.
40 Just as for was Jonah in the belly of the great fish three days and three nights, so will be the Son of Man in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.
ὥσπερ γὰρ ἦν Ἰωνᾶς ἐν τῇ κοιλίᾳ τοῦ κήτους τρεῖς ἡμέρας καὶ τρεῖς νύκτας, οὕτως ἔσται ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ τῆς γῆς τρεῖς ἡμέρας καὶ τρεῖς νύκτας.
41 [The] men of Nineveh will stand up in the judgment with generation this and will condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold greater than Jonah here.
ἄνδρες Νινευῖται ἀναστήσονται ἐν τῇ κρίσει μετὰ τῆς γενεᾶς ταύτης καὶ κατακρινοῦσιν αὐτήν· ὅτι μετενόησαν εἰς τὸ κήρυγμα Ἰωνᾶ, καὶ ἰδοὺ πλεῖον Ἰωνᾶ ὧδε.
42 [The] queen of [the] south will rise up in the judgment with generation this and will condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold greater than Solomon here.
βασίλισσα νότου ἐγερθήσεται ἐν τῇ κρίσει μετὰ τῆς γενεᾶς ταύτης καὶ κατακρινεῖ αὐτήν· ὅτι ἦλθεν ἐκ τῶν περάτων τῆς γῆς ἀκοῦσαι τὴν σοφίαν Σολομῶνος, καὶ ἰδοὺ πλεῖον Σολομῶνος ὧδε.
43 When now the unclean spirit may go out from the man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest and none finds.
Ὅταν δὲ τὸ ἀκάθαρτον πνεῦμα ἐξέλθῃ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου, διέρχεται διʼ ἀνύδρων τόπων ζητοῦν ἀνάπαυσιν, καὶ οὐχ εὑρίσκει.
44 Then it says; To the house of mine I will return from where I came out. And having come it finds [it] being unoccupied, (and *o*) swept and ordered.
τότε λέγει· ⸂Εἰς τὸν οἶκόν μου ἐπιστρέψω ὅθεν ἐξῆλθον· καὶ ἐλθὸν ⸀εὑρίσκει⸀σχολάζοντασεσαρωμένον καὶ κεκοσμημένον.
45 Then it goes and it takes with itself seven other spirits more evil than itself, and having entered in they dwell there; and becomes the last man of that worse than the first. So it will be also to generation this the evil.
τότε πορεύεται καὶ παραλαμβάνει μεθʼ ἑαυτοῦ ἑπτὰ ἕτερα πνεύματα πονηρότερα ἑαυτοῦ, καὶ εἰσελθόντα κατοικεῖ ἐκεῖ· καὶ γίνεται τὰ ἔσχατα τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐκείνου χείρονα τῶν πρώτων. οὕτως ἔσται καὶ τῇ γενεᾷ ταύτῃ τῇ πονηρᾷ.
46 While (now *ko*) when He is speaking to the crowds behold the mother and the brothers of Him had been standing outside seeking to Him to speak.
Ἔτι ⸀δὲαὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος τοῖς ὄχλοις ἰδοὺ ἡ μήτηρ καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ εἱστήκεισαν ἔξω ζητοῦντες αὐτῷ λαλῆσαι.
47 Said now someone to Him; Behold the mother of You and the brothers of you outside have stood seeking to You to speak.
⸂εἶπεν δέ τις αὐτῷ· Ἰδοὺ ἡ μήτηρ σου καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί σου ἔξω ἑστήκασιν, ζητοῦντές σοι λαλῆσαι⸃
48 And answering He said to the [one] (telling *N(k)O*) to Him; Who is the mother of Mine and who are the brothers of Mine?
ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν τῷ ⸀λέγοντιαὐτῷ· Τίς ἐστιν ἡ μήτηρ μου, καὶ τίνες εἰσὶν οἱ ἀδελφοί μου;
49 And having stretched out the hand of Him to the disciples of Him He said; Behold the mother of Mine and the brothers of Mine.
καὶ ἐκτείνας τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ εἶπεν· Ἰδοὺ ἡ μήτηρ μου καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί μου·
50 Whoever for maybe may do the will the Father of Mine who [is] in [the] heavens, he himself My brother and sister and mother is.
ὅστις γὰρ ἂν ποιήσῃ τὸ θέλημα τοῦ πατρός μου τοῦ ἐν οὐρανοῖς, αὐτός μου ἀδελφὸς καὶ ἀδελφὴ καὶ μήτηρ ἐστίν.
