Judges 9
1 And he went Abimelech [the] son of Jerub-Baal Shechem towards to [the] brothers of mother his and he spoke to them and to all [the] clan of [the] house of [the] father of mother his saying.
Abimélec, fils de Jerubbaal, se rendit à Sichem, chez les frères de sa mère, et leur parla, ainsi qu'à toute la famille de la maison du père de sa mère, en disant:
2 Speak please in [the] ears of all [the] citizens of Shechem what? [is] good for you ¿ to rule over you seventy man all [the] sons of Jerub-Baal or? to rule over you a man one and you will remember that [am] bone your and flesh your I.
« Parle, je te prie, aux oreilles de tous les hommes de Sichem: « Vaut-il mieux pour vous que tous les fils de Jerubbaal, qui sont soixante-dix personnes, dominent sur vous, ou qu'un seul domine sur vous? ». Souvenez-vous aussi que je suis votre os et votre chair. »
3 And they spoke [the] brothers of mother his on him in [the] ears of all [the] citizens of Shechem all the words these and it turned aside heart their after Abimelech for they said [is] brother our he.
Les frères de sa mère rapportèrent de lui toutes ces paroles aux oreilles de tous les hommes de Sichem. Leur cœur penchait pour suivre Abimélec, car ils disaient: « C'est notre frère. »
4 And they gave to him seventy silver (from [the] house of Baal-*L(abh)*) Berith and he hired for them Abimelech men unprincipled and undisciplined and they went after him.
Ils lui donnèrent soixante-dix pièces d'argent provenant de la maison de Baal Berith, avec laquelle Abimélec engageait des hommes vains et imprudents qui le suivaient.
5 And he went [the] house of father his Ophrah towards and he killed brothers his [the] sons of Jerub-Baal (seventy *L(abh)*) man on stone one and he was left Jotham [the] son of Jerub-Baal young for he hid himself.
Il se rendit à la maison de son père, à Ophra, et tua ses frères, les fils de Jerubbaal, soit soixante-dix personnes, sur une seule pierre; mais il resta Jotham, le plus jeune des fils de Jerubbaal, car il se cacha.
6 And they gathered all [the] citizens of Shechem and all Beth Millo and they went and they made king Abimelech to king near [the] great tree set up which [was] in Shechem.
Tous les hommes de Sichem se rassemblèrent avec toute la maison de Millo, et ils allèrent établir roi Abimélec près du chêne de la colonne qui était à Sichem.
7 And people told to Jotham and he went and he stood on [the] top of [the] mountain of Gerizim and he lifted up voice his and he called out and he said to them listen to me O citizens of Shechem so he may listen to you God.
Lorsqu'ils racontèrent cela à Jotham, celui-ci alla se placer sur le sommet du mont Garizim, éleva la voix, cria et leur dit: « Ecoutez-moi, hommes de Sichem, afin que Dieu vous écoute.
8 Certainly they went the trees to anoint over them a king and they said to the olive tree (reign! *Q(k)*) over us.
Les arbres se mirent à oindre un roi sur eux. Ils dirent à l'olivier: « Règne sur nous ».
9 And it said to them the olive tree ¿ will I cease fatness my which by me people honor gods and men and will I go to sway over the trees.
« Mais l'olivier leur dit: « Dois-je cesser de produire mon huile, avec laquelle on honore Dieu et les hommes par moi, et aller m'agiter de long en large sur les arbres? ».
10 And they said the trees to the fig tree come you reign over us.
« Les arbres dirent au figuier: « Viens et règne sur nous ».
11 And it said to them the fig tree ¿ will I cease sweetness my and fruit my good and will I go to sway over the trees.
« Mais le figuier leur dit: « Dois-je laisser ma douceur et mon bon fruit, et aller m'agiter sur les arbres? ».
12 And they said the trees to the vine come you (reign *Q(k)*) over us.
« Les arbres dirent à la vigne: « Viens et règne sur nous ».
13 And it said to them the vine ¿ will I cease new wine my which makes glad gods and men and will I go to sway over the trees.
« La vigne leur dit: « Dois-je laisser mon vin nouveau, qui réjouit Dieu et les hommes, et aller m'agiter sur les arbres? ».
14 And they said all the trees to the thorn bush come you reign over us.
« Alors tous les arbres dirent à la ronce: « Viens et règne sur nous ».
15 And it said the thorn bush to the trees if in truth you [are] anointing me to king over you come take refuge in shade my and if not let it go out a fire from the thorn bush and let it consume [the] cedars of Lebanon.
« La ronce dit aux arbres: 'Si vous m'oignez vraiment comme roi, venez vous réfugier à mon ombre; sinon, que le feu sorte de la ronce et dévore les cèdres du Liban'.
16 And now if in faithfulness and in integrity you have acted and you have made king Abimelech and if good you have done with Jerub-Baal and with house his and if according to [the] dealing of hands his you have done to him.
« Maintenant, si vous avez agi avec vérité et droiture, en faisant régner Abimélec, et si vous avez bien traité Jerubbaal et sa maison, et si vous l'avez traité selon le mérite de ses mains
17 That he fought father my on you and he threw life his from in front and he delivered you from [the] hand of Midian.
(car mon père a combattu pour vous, a risqué sa vie, et vous a délivrés de la main de Madian;
18 And you you have risen up on [the] house of father my this day and you have killed sons his seventy man on stone one and you have made king Abimelech [the] son of female slave his over [the] citizens of Shechem for [is] brother your he.
et aujourd'hui, vous vous êtes levés contre la maison de mon père, vous avez tué ses fils, soixante-dix personnes, sur une seule pierre, et vous avez fait d'Abimélec, fils de sa servante, le roi des hommes de Sichem, parce qu'il est votre frère);
19 And if in faithfulness and in integrity you have acted with Jerub-Baal and with house his the day this rejoice in Abimelech so he may rejoice also he in you.
Si donc tu as traité aujourd'hui Jerubbaal et sa maison avec fidélité et justice, réjouis-toi en Abimélec, et que lui aussi se réjouisse en toi;
20 And if not let it go out a fire from Abimelech and let it consume [the] citizens of Shechem and Beth Millo and let it go out a fire from [the] citizens of Shechem and from Beth Millo and let it consume Abimelech.
sinon, que le feu sorte d'Abimélec et dévore les hommes de Sichem et de la maison de Millo; et que le feu sorte des hommes de Sichem et de la maison de Millo et dévore Abimélec. »
21 And he fled Jotham and he ran away and he went Beer towards and he dwelt there [away] from before Abimelech brother his.
Jotham s'est enfui et a fui, il est allé à Beer et y a vécu, par crainte d'Abimélec, son frère.
22 And he ruled Abimelech over Israel three years.
Abimélec fut prince sur Israël pendant trois ans.
23 And he sent God a spirit evil between Abimelech and between [the] citizens of Shechem and they dealt treacherously [the] citizens of Shechem with Abimelech.
Alors Dieu envoya un mauvais esprit entre Abimélec et les hommes de Sichem; et les hommes de Sichem trahirent Abimélec,
24 To come [the] violence of seventy [the] sons of Jerub-Baal and blood their to put on Abimelech brother their who he killed them and on [the] citizens of Shechem who they strengthened hands his to kill brothers his.
afin que la violence faite aux soixante-dix fils de Jerubbaal arrive, et que leur sang retombe sur Abimélec, leur frère, qui les a tués, et sur les hommes de Sichem, qui ont fortifié ses mains pour tuer ses frères.
25 And they set to him [the] citizens of Shechem ambushers on [the] tops of the mountains and they robbed every [one] who he passed by on them on the road and it was told to Abimelech.
Les hommes de Sichem lui tendirent une embuscade sur les sommets des montagnes et ils dévalisèrent tous ceux qui passaient par là; Abimélec en fut informé.
26 And he came Gaal [the] son of Ebed and brothers his and they passed on in Shechem and they trusted in him [the] citizens of Shechem.
Gaal, fils d'Ebed, vint avec ses frères et passa à Sichem, et les hommes de Sichem se confièrent en lui.
27 And they went out the field and they gathered grapes vineyards their and they trod [them] and they made rejoicings and they went [the] house of god their and they ate and they drank and they cursed Abimelech.
Ils sortirent dans les champs, moissonnèrent leurs vignes, foulèrent le raisin, firent la fête, entrèrent dans la maison de leur dieu, mangèrent et burent, et maudirent Abimélec.
28 And he said - Gaal [the] son of Ebed who? [is] Abimelech and who? [is] Shechem that we will serve him ¿ not [is he] [the] son of Jerub-Baal and [is] Zebul? deputy his serve [the] men of Hamor [the] father of Shechem and why? will we serve him we.
Gaal, fils d'Ebed, dit: « Qui est Abimélec et qui est Sichem, pour que nous le servions? N'est-il pas le fils de Jerubbaal? Zebul n'est-il pas son officier? Servez les hommes de Hamor, le père de Sichem, mais pourquoi devrions-nous le servir?
29 And who? will he give the people this in hand my and I will remove Abimelech and he said of Abimelech make numerous army your and come out!
Je voudrais que ce peuple soit sous ma main! Alors je supprimerais Abimélek. » Il dit à Abimélec: « Augmente ton armée et sors! »
30 And he heard Zebul [the] official of the city [the] words of Gaal [the] son of Ebed and it burned anger his.
Lorsque Zebul, chef de la ville, entendit les paroles de Gaal, fils d'Ebed, sa colère s'enflamma.
31 And he sent messengers to Abimelech in treachery saying here! Gaal [the] son of Ebed and brothers his [are] coming Shechem towards and here they [are] shutting up the city on you.
Il envoya des messagers à Abimélec avec ruse, en disant: « Voici que Gaal, fils d'Ebed, et ses frères sont venus à Sichem, et voici qu'ils excitent la ville contre toi.
32 And therefore arise night you and the people which [is] with you and lie in wait in the field.
Maintenant, monte de nuit, toi et le peuple qui est avec toi, et va te mettre à l'affût dans les champs.
33 And it will be in the morning when rises the sun you will rise early and you will make a raid on the city and there! he and the people which [is] with him [are] going out against you and you will do to him just as it will find hand your.
Le matin, dès que le soleil sera levé, tu te lèveras de bonne heure et tu te précipiteras sur la ville. Voici, quand lui et le peuple qui est avec lui sortiront contre toi, alors tu pourras leur faire ce que tu trouveras à faire. »
34 And he arose Abimelech and all the people which [was] with him night and they lay in wait on Shechem four companies.
Abimélec se leva de nuit, avec tout le peuple qui était avec lui, et ils se mirent en embuscade contre Sichem en quatre compagnies.
35 And he went out Gaal [the] son of Ebed and he stood [the] entrance of [the] gate of the city and he arose Abimelech and the people which [was] with him from the ambush.
Gaal, fils d'Ebed, sortit et se tint à l'entrée de la porte de la ville. Abimélec se leva de l'embuscade, avec le peuple qui était avec lui.
36 And he saw Gaal the people and he said to Zebul there! a people [is] coming down from [the] tops of the mountains and he said to him Zebul [the] shadow of the mountains you [are] seeing like men.
Lorsque Gaal vit le peuple, il dit à Zebul: « Voici que des gens descendent des sommets des montagnes. » Zebul lui dit: « Tu vois les ombres des montagnes comme si elles étaient des hommes. »
37 And he repeated again Gaal to speak and he said there! a people [are] coming down from with [the] center of the land and a company one [is] coming from [the] direction of [the] great tree of [the] soothsayer.
Gaal parla encore et dit: « Voici que des gens descendent par le milieu du pays, et une troupe vient par le chemin du chêne de Meonenim. »
38 And he said to him Zebul where? then [is] mouth your O [you] who you said who? [is] Abimelech that we will serve him ¿ not [is] this the people which you rejected it go out please now and fight against him.
Alors Zebul lui dit: « Où est ta bouche, maintenant, pour que tu dises: « Qui est Abimélec, pour que nous le servions? ». N'est-ce pas là le peuple que tu as méprisé? Sors maintenant et va te battre avec eux. »
39 And he went out Gaal before [the] citizens of Shechem and he fought against Abimelech.
Gaal sortit devant les gens de Sichem, et il combattit Abimélec.
40 And he pursued him Abimelech and he fled from before him and they fell [those] fatally wounded many to [the] entrance of the gate.
Abimélec le poursuivit; il s'enfuit devant lui, et beaucoup de gens furent blessés, jusqu'à l'entrée de la porte.
41 And he dwelt Abimelech at Arumah and he drove out Zebul Gaal and brothers his from dwelling at Shechem.
Abimélec habitait à Aruma, et Zébul chassa Gaal et ses frères, pour qu'ils n'habitent pas à Sichem.
42 And it was from [the] next day and it went out the people the field and people told to Abimelech.
Le lendemain, le peuple sortit dans les champs, et on en informa Abimélec.
43 And he took the people and he divided them into three companies and he lay in wait in the field and he saw and there! the people [was] going out from the city and he rose up on them and he struck down them.
Celui-ci prit le peuple et le divisa en trois groupes, puis il attendit dans les champs. Il regarda, et voici que le peuple sortait de la ville. Il se leva contre eux et les frappa.
44 And Abimelech and the companies which [were] with him they made a raid and they stood [the] entrance of [the] gate of the city and [the] two the companies they made a raid on all [those] who [were] in the field and they struck down them.
Abimélec et les compagnies qui étaient avec lui se précipitèrent en avant et se tinrent à l'entrée de la porte de la ville; les deux compagnies se précipitèrent sur tous ceux qui étaient dans les champs et les frappèrent.
45 And Abimelech [was] fighting against the city all the day that and he captured the city and the people which [was] in it he killed and he pulled down the city and he sowed it salt.
Abimélec combattit la ville tout ce jour-là; il prit la ville et tua le peuple qui s'y trouvait. Il battit la ville et la sema de sel.
46 And they heard all [the] citizens of [the] tower of Shechem and they went into [the] underground chamber of [the] house of El-Berith.
Lorsque tous les hommes de la tour de Sichem l'apprirent, ils entrèrent dans la forteresse de la maison d'Elberith.
47 And it was told to Abimelech that they had gathered together all [the] citizens of [the] tower of Shechem.
On informa Abimélec que tous les hommes de la tour de Sichem étaient rassemblés.
48 And he went up Abimelech [the] mountain of Zalmon he and all the people which [was] with him and he took Abimelech the axes in hand his and he cut off a branch of wood and he lifted up it and he put [it] on shoulder his and he said to the people which [was] with him whatever you have seen I have done hurry do like me.
Abimélec monta sur la montagne de Zalmon, lui et tout le peuple qui était avec lui. Abimélec prit une hache dans sa main, abattit un rameau des arbres, l'emporta et le posa sur son épaule. Puis il dit au peuple qui était avec lui: « Ce que vous m'avez vu faire, hâtez-vous de le faire, et faites comme moi! ».
49 And they cut off also all the people everyone own branch his and they went after Abimelech and they put [them] over the underground chamber and they set on fire over them the underground chamber with fire and they died also all [the] men of [the] tower of Shechem about a thousand man and woman.
Tout le peuple de même, chacun coupa sa branche, suivit Abimélec, les plaça au pied de la forteresse et mit le feu à la forteresse par-dessus, de sorte que tous les gens de la tour de Sichem moururent aussi, environ mille hommes et femmes.
50 And he went Abimelech to Thebez and he encamped at Thebez and he captured it.
Alors Abimélec alla à Thèbes et campa contre Thèbes, et il la prit.
51 And a tower of strength it was in [the] middle of the city and they fled there towards all the men and the women and all [the] citizens of the city and they shut [the] door behind them and they went up on [the] roof of the tower.
Mais il y avait une tour forte dans la ville, et tous les hommes et les femmes de la ville s'y réfugièrent, s'y enfermèrent et montèrent sur le toit de la tour.
52 And he came Abimelech to the tower and he fought against it and he drew near to [the] entrance of the tower to burn it with fire.
Abimélec vint à la tour et la combattit; il s'approcha de la porte de la tour pour la brûler par le feu.
53 And she threw a woman one a mill-stone of an upper mill-stone on [the] head of Abimelech and it crushed skull his.
Une femme jeta une meule supérieure sur la tête d'Abimélec, et lui brisa le crâne.
54 And he called quickly to the young man - [who] carried armor his and he said to him draw sword your and kill me lest people should say of me a woman she killed him and he pierced through him young man his and he died.
Alors il appela en hâte le jeune homme qui portait son armure et lui dit: « Tire ton épée et tue-moi, afin qu'on ne dise pas de moi: « Une femme l'a tué ». Le jeune homme le transperça, et il mourut. »
55 And they saw [the] man of Israel that he was dead Abimelech and they went everyone to own place his.
Lorsque les hommes d'Israël virent qu'Abimélec était mort, ils s'en allèrent chacun à sa place.
56 And he repaid God [the] evil of Abimelech which he had done to father his by killing seventy brothers his.
C'est ainsi que Dieu rendit à Abimélec la méchanceté qu'il avait commise envers son père en tuant ses soixante-dix frères.
57 And all [the] evil of [the] men of Shechem he repaid God on head their and it came to them [the] curse of Jotham [the] son of Jerub-Baal.
Dieu fit retomber sur leur tête toute la méchanceté des hommes de Sichem, et la malédiction de Jotham, fils de Jerubbaal, tomba sur eux.
