Joshua 8
1 And he said Yahweh to Joshua may not you fear and may not you be dismayed take with you all [the] people of war and arise go up Ai see - I have given in hand your [the] king of Ai and people his and city his and land his.
Hierauf sagte der HERR zu Josua: »Fürchte dich nicht und sei ohne Angst! Nimm das gesamte Kriegsvolk mit dir und mache dich auf, ziehe gegen Ai hinauf: hiermit gebe ich den König von Ai samt seinem Volk, seiner Stadt und seinem Lande in deine Gewalt.
2 And you will do to Ai and to king its just as you did to Jericho and to king its only booty its and livestock its you will plunder for yourselves set for yourself an ambush for the city behind it.
Du sollst mit Ai und seinem König so verfahren, wie du mit Jericho und seinem König verfahren bist; jedoch die dortige Beute und das Vieh dürft ihr für euch behalten. Lege dir einen Hinterhalt gegen die Stadt auf ihrer Westseite!«
3 And he arose Joshua and all [the] people of war to go up Ai and he chose Joshua thirty thousand man [the] mighty [men] of strength and he sent out them night.
Da machte sich Josua mit dem gesamten Kriegsvolk auf, um gegen Ai hinaufzuziehen. Er wählte aber 30000 Mann tapfere Krieger aus und sandte sie bei Nacht ab,
4 And he commanded them saying see you [are] lying in wait for the city behind the city may not you go far away from the city very and you will be all of you prepared.
nachdem er ihnen folgenden Befehl gegeben hatte: »Wisset wohl: ihr sollt euch gegen die Stadt in den Hinterhalt legen, und zwar auf der Westseite der Stadt; entfernt euch nicht zu weit von der Stadt und haltet euch allesamt bereit!
5 And I and all the people which [is] with me we will draw near to the city and it will be that they will come out to meet us just as at the first [time] and we will flee before them.
Ich aber und das ganze Kriegsvolk, das bei mir ist, werden gegen die Stadt anrücken, und wenn sie dann wie das vorige Mal einen Ausfall gegen uns machen, wollen wir vor ihnen fliehen.
6 And they will come out after us until have drawn out we them from the city for they will say [they are] fleeing before us just as at the first [time] and we will flee before them.
Sie werden dann herauskommen, um uns zu verfolgen, bis wir sie von der Stadt ganz abgezogen haben; denn sie werden denken: ›Die fliehen vor uns wie das vorige Mal‹; und wir wollen ja auch wirklich vor ihnen fliehen.
7 And you you will arise from the ambush and you will take possession of the city and he will give it Yahweh God your in hand your.
Dann müßt ihr aus dem Hinterhalt hervorbrechen und euch der Stadt bemächtigen; denn der HERR, euer Gott, wird sie in eure Gewalt geben.
8 And it will be when have captured you the city you will set on fire the city with fire according to [the] word of Yahweh you will do see I have commanded you.
Wenn ihr aber die Stadt eingenommen habt, so steckt sie in Brand: nach dem Gebot des HERRN sollt ihr verfahren! Das sind meine Befehle für euch.«
9 And he sent out them Joshua and they went to the ambush and they remained between Beth-el and between Ai from [the] west of Ai and he stayed Joshua in the night that in among the people.
Als Josua sie so entlassen hatte, zogen sie in den Hinterhalt und nahmen Stellung zwischen Bethel und Ai, und zwar auf der Westseite von Ai, während Josua jene Nacht inmitten des übrigen Kriegsvolkes verbrachte.
10 And he rose early Joshua in the morning and he mustered the people and he went up he and [the] elders of Israel before the people Ai.
Josua machte sich dann am folgenden Morgen früh auf und zog, nachdem er das Kriegsvolk gemustert hatte, mit den Ältesten der Israeliten an der Spitze des Heeres gegen Ai hinauf.
11 And all the people of war which [was] with him they went up and they approached and they came before the city and they encamped from [the] north of Ai and the valley ([was] between it *Q(k)*) and between Ai.
Das gesamte Kriegsvolk, das bei ihm war, zog hinauf und rückte heran und kam vor der Stadt an; sie lagerten nördlich von Ai, so daß das Tal zwischen ihnen und Ai lag.
12 And he took about five thousand man and he set them an ambush between Beth-el and between Ai from [the] west of the city.
[Er hatte aber etwa fünftausend Mann genommen und sie als Hinterhalt zwischen Bethel und Ai, auf der Westseite der Stadt, Stellung nehmen lassen.
13 And they set the people all the camp which [was] from [the] north of the city and rearguard its from [the] west of the city and he went Joshua in the night that in [the] middle of the valley.
Dann stellten sie das Volk auf, das ganze Heer, das sich nördlich von der Stadt befand, und dessen Hinterhalt westlich von der Stadt; Josua aber begab sich in jener Nacht mitten in das Tal.]
14 And it was when saw [the] king of Ai and they hurried and they rose early and they went out [the] men of the city to meet Israel for battle he and all people his to the appointed place before the Arabah and he not he knew that an ambush for him [was] behind the city.
Als nun der König von Ai dies sah, machten sich die Männer der Stadt in der Frühe eilends auf und zogen aus, den Israeliten zum Kampf entgegen, er und sein ganzes Volk, an den bestimmten Ort vor der Steppe, ohne zu wissen, daß ihm auf der Westseite der Stadt ein Hinterhalt gelegt war.
15 And they were struck Joshua and all Israel before them and they fled [the] direction of the wilderness.
Da ließen sich Josua und ganz Israel von ihnen schlagen und flohen in der Richtung nach der Steppe zu.
16 And they were called together all the people which ([was] in Ai *Q(K)*) to pursue after them and they pursued after Joshua and they were drawn out from the city.
Darauf wurde das gesamte Volk, das noch in der Stadt war, zu ihrer Verfolgung aufgeboten, und sie verfolgten Josua und ließen sich so von der Stadt weglocken:
17 And not he remained anyone in Ai and Beth-el who not they went out after Israel and they left the city open and they pursued after Israel.
kein Mann blieb in Ai [und Bethel] zurück, der nicht zur Verfolgung der Israeliten ausgezogen wäre; die Stadt aber ließen sie hinter sich offen stehen und verfolgten die Israeliten.
18 And he said Yahweh to Joshua stretch out with the javelin which [is] in hand your to Ai for in hand your I will give it and he stretched out Joshua with the javelin which [was] in hand his to the city.
Da sagte der HERR zu Josua: »Strecke die Lanze, die du in der Hand hast, gegen Ai aus, denn ich gebe es in deine Gewalt.« Da streckte Josua die Lanze, die er in der Hand hatte, gegen die Stadt aus.
19 And the ambush it arose quickly from place its and they ran when stretched out hand his and they went the city and they captured it and they hurried and they set on fire the city with fire.
Nun verließ der Hinterhalt in aller Eile seinen Standort und gelangte, als Josua seine Hand ausgestreckt hatte, im Lauf zur Stadt, die sie einnahmen und sofort in Brand steckten.
20 And they turned [the] men of Ai behind them and they saw and there! it went up [the] smoke of the city the heavens towards and not it was in them hands to flee hither and hither and the people which was fleeing the wilderness it turned back against the pursuer.
Als nun die Aiten sich umwandten und den Rauch von der Stadt zum Himmel aufsteigen sahen, hatten sie keine Möglichkeit mehr, hierhin oder dorthin zu fliehen; denn das israelitische Heer, das nach der Wüste hin geflohen war, wandte sich gegen seine Verfolger um.
21 And Joshua and all Israel they saw that it had captured the ambush the city and that it went up [the] smoke of the city and they turned back and they attacked [the] men of Ai.
Denn als Josua und alle Israeliten sahen, daß der Hinterhalt die Stadt eingenommen hatte und daß der Rauch von der Stadt aufstieg, machten sie kehrt und schlugen die Aiten.
22 And these [men] they came out from the city to meet them and they were to Israel in the middle these from this and these from this and they struck down them until not he had left to him a survivor and a fugitive.
Jene anderen aber waren ihnen aus der Stadt entgegengezogen, so daß sich die Aiten mitten zwischen den Israeliten befanden, da die einen von dieser, die anderen von jener Seite kamen; und sie machten sie nieder, bis kein einziger von ihnen übrig war, der sich hätte retten oder entfliehen können.
23 And [the] king of Ai they captured alive and they brought near him to Joshua.
Den König von Ai aber nahmen sie lebendig gefangen und brachten ihn zu Josua.
24 And it was when had finished Israel to kill all [the] inhabitants of Ai in the open country in the wilderness which they had pursued them in it and they had fallen all of them to [the] mouth of [the] sword until were finished they and they returned all Israel Ai and they attacked it to [the] mouth of [the] sword.
Als nun die Israeliten alle Bewohner von Ai auf dem freien Felde und in der Wüste, wohin die sie verfolgt hatten, niedergemacht hatten und diese alle bis auf den letzten Mann durch das Schwert gefallen waren, da wandten sich alle Israeliten wieder gegen Ai und machten alle Einwohner ohne Gnade nieder.
25 And it was all those [who] fell on the day that from man and unto woman two [plus] ten thousand all [the] people of Ai.
Die Zahl aller, die an diesem Tage fielen, Männer und Weiber, betrug zwölftausend, die ganze Einwohnerschaft von Ai.
26 And Joshua not he drew back hand his which he had stretched out with the javelin until that he had totally destroyed all [the] inhabitants of Ai.
Josua hatte nämlich seine Hand, die er mit der Lanze ausgestreckt hatte, nicht eher zurückgezogen, als bis der Bann an allen Bewohnern von Ai vollstreckt war.
27 Only the livestock and [the] booty of the city that they plundered for themselves Israel according to [the] word of Yahweh which he had commanded Joshua.
Nur das Vieh und die Beute dieser Stadt behielten die Israeliten für sich, nach der Weisung, die der HERR dem Josua erteilt hatte.
28 And he burned Joshua Ai and he made it a mound of perpetuity a desolation until the day this.
Josua verbrannte dann Ai und machte es für ewige Zeiten zu einem Schutthaufen, zu einer wüsten Stätte, bis auf den heutigen Tag.
29 And [the] king of Ai he hanged on the tree until [the] time of the evening and just as went the sun he commanded Joshua and they took down corpse his from the tree and they threw it to [the] entrance of [the] gate of the city and they set up over him a heap of stones great until the day this.
Den König von Ai aber ließ er bis zur Abendzeit an einen Baum hängen; doch bei Sonnenuntergang nahm man seinen Leichnam auf Befehl Josuas von dem Baume ab und warf ihn an den Eingang des Stadttores, wo man über ihm einen großen Steinhaufen errichtete, der dort noch bis zum heutigen Tage vorhanden ist.
30 Then he built Joshua an altar to Yahweh [the] God of Israel on [the] mountain of Ebal.
Damals baute Josua dem HERRN, dem Gott Israels, einen Altar auf dem Berge Ebal,
31 Just as he had commanded Moses [the] servant of Yahweh [the] people of Israel according to [what] is written in [the] book of [the] law of Moses an altar of stones complete which not anyone has wielded on them iron and they offered up on it burnt offerings to Yahweh and they sacrificed peace offerings.
wie Mose, der Knecht des HERRN, den Israeliten geboten hatte, wie im Gesetzbuch Moses geschrieben steht, einen Altar aus unbehauenen Steinen, an die noch kein eisernes Werkzeug gekommen war; und sie brachten auf ihm dem HERRN Brandopfer dar und schlachteten Dankopfer.
32 And he wrote there on the stones copy of [the] law of Moses which he had written before [the] people of Israel.
Dann schrieb er dort auf Steine eine Abschrift des mosaischen Gesetzes, das (Mose) einst in Gegenwart der Israeliten geschrieben hatte.
33 And all Israel and elders its and officials - and judges its [were] standing from this - and from this - of the ark before the priests the Levites [the] bearers of - [the] ark of [the] covenant of Yahweh as the sojourner as the native half of it to [the] front of [the] mountain of Gerizim and half of it to [the] front of [the] mountain of Ebal just as he had commanded Moses [the] servant of Yahweh to bless the people Israel at the former [time].
Und ganz Israel mit seinen Ältesten und Obmännern und seinen Richtern stand zu beiden Seiten der Lade den levitischen Priestern gegenüber, welche die Bundeslade des HERRN zu tragen hatten, sowohl die Fremdlinge als auch die Einheimischen, die eine Hälfte von ihnen nach dem Berge Garizim zu, die andere Hälfte nach dem Berge Ebal hin, wie Mose, der Knecht des HERRN, einstmals geboten hatte, das Volk Israel zu segnen.
34 And after thus he read aloud all [the] words of the law the blessing and the curse according to every [thing] written in [the] book of the law.
Darnach las Josua alle Worte des Gesetzes laut vor, den Segen wie den Fluch, genau so, wie es im Gesetzbuch geschrieben steht:
35 Not it was anything from all that he had commanded Moses which not he read aloud Joshua before all [the] assembly of Israel and the women and the little one[s] and the sojourner[s] who went in midst their.
es gab kein Wort von allem, was Mose geboten hatte, das Josua nicht vor der ganzen Versammlung der Israeliten, auch vor den Frauen und Kindern und den Fremdlingen, die unter ihnen mitzogen, laut vorgelesen hätte.
