Joshua 4
1 And it was just when they had finished all the nation to pass over the Jordan. And he said Yahweh to Joshua saying.
Nadat dan het hele volk over de Jordaan was getrokken, sprak Jahweh tot Josuë:
2 Take for yourselves from the people two [plus] ten men a man one a man one from a tribe.
Kiest u uit dit volk twaalf mannen, één uit iedere stam,
3 And command them saying take up for yourselves from here from [the] middle of the Jordan from [the] standing-place of [the] feet of the priests to make firm two [plus] ten stones and you will take over them with you and you will set down them at the lodging place which you will stay at it this night.
en beveelt hun: Neemt hier midden uit de Jordaan, waar de voeten van de priesters hebben gestaan, twaalf stenen; draagt ze met u mee naar de plek, waar ge vannacht verblijven zult, en richt ze daar op.
4 And he called Joshua to two [plus] the ten man whom he had appointed from [the] people of Israel a man one a man one from a tribe.
Josuë riep dus twaalf mannen, die hij onder de Israëlieten aanwees, uit elke stam één,
5 And he said to them Joshua pass over before [the] ark of Yahweh God your into [the] middle of the Jordan and take up for yourselves each a stone one on shoulder his to [the] number of [the] tribes of [the] people of Israel.
en sprak tot hen: Trekt op tot bij de ark van Jahweh, uw God, in het midden van de Jordaan, en neemt ieder één steen op uw schouders, naar het getal van de stammen van Israëls kinderen,
6 So that it may be this a sign in midst your if they will ask! children your tomorrow saying what? [are] the stones these to you.
opdat die onder u ten teken zijn. En wanneer dan later uw zonen vragen: "Wat beduiden die stenen voor u?"
7 And you will say to them that they were cut off [the] waters of the Jordan from before [the] ark of [the] covenant of Yahweh when passed on it in the Jordan they were cut off [the] waters of the Jordan and they will become the stones these a reminder to [the] people of Israel until perpetuity.
zult ge hun antwoorden: "Omdat het water van de Jordaan voor de ark van Jahweh’s Verbond verdween, toen de ark de Jordaan overtrok: omdat het water van de Jordaan verdween, daarom zijn deze stenen een altijddurend gedenkteken voor de kinderen Israëls".
8 And they did thus [the] people of Israel just as he had commanded Joshua and they took up two [plus] ten stones from [the] middle of the Jordan just as he had said Yahweh to Joshua to [the] number of [the] tribes of [the] people of Israel and they took over them with them to the lodging place and they set down them there.
De Israëlieten deden dus, zoals Josuë hun had bevolen; ze namen uit het midden van de Jordaan twaalf stenen op naar het getal der israëlietische stammen, zoals Jahweh het Josuë bevolen had, droegen ze mee naar het nachtkwartier en richtten ze daar op.
9 And two [plus] ten stones he set up Joshua in [the] middle of the Jordan in [the] standing-place of [the] feet of the priests [the] bearers of [the] ark of the covenant and they have been there until the day this.
Tevens plaatste Josuë twaalf stenen midden in de Jordaan op de plaats, waar de voeten van de priesters, die de ark des Verbonds droegen, hadden gerust; ze zijn daar nog tot op de dag van heden.
10 And the priests [the] bearers of the ark [were] standing in [the] middle of the Jordan until was finished every thing which he had commanded Yahweh Joshua to speak to the people according to all that he had commanded Moses Joshua and they hurried the people and they passed over.
Intussen waren de priesters, die de ark droegen, midden in de Jordaan blijven staan, totdat alles geschied was, wat Jahweh Josuë had opgedragen, aan het volk te bevelen. In aller ijl trok het volk naar de andere kant;
11 And it was just when it had finished all the people to pass over and it passed over [the] ark of Yahweh and the priests before the people.
en toen het hele volk over was, trok ook de ark van Jahweh over, en gingen de priesters weer aan de spits van het volk.
12 And they passed over [the] descendants of Reuben and [the] descendants of Gad and [the] half of [the] tribe of Manasseh arrayed for battle before [the] people of Israel just as he had spoken to them Moses.
Ook de Rubenieten, de Gadieten en de halve stam van Manasse trokken over, en gingen gewapend voor Israël uit, zoals Moses het hun had bevolen;
13 About forty thousand armed [men] of war they passed over before Yahweh for battle to [the] plains of Jericho.
ze telden veertigduizend man ongeveer, die voor Jahweh ten strijde uittrokken naar de vlakte van Jericho.
14 On the day that he made great Yahweh Joshua in [the] eyes of all Israel and they feared him just as they had feared Moses all [the] days of life his.
Die dag verheerlijkte Jahweh Josuë in de ogen van heel Israël, zodat ze hem heel zijn leven vreesden, zoals ze Moses hadden gevreesd.
15 And he said Yahweh to Joshua saying.
Nu sprak Jahweh tot Josuë:
16 Command the priests [the] bearers of [the] ark of the testimony so they may come up from the Jordan.
Beveel de priesters, die de ark des Verbonds dragen, dat ze uit de Jordaan komen.
17 And he commanded Joshua the priests saying come up from the Jordan.
En Josuë beval de priesters: Komt de Jordaan uit.
18 And it was (just as came up *Q(K)*) the priests [the] bearers of [the] ark of [the] covenant of Yahweh from [the] middle of the Jordan they were drawn out [the] soles of [the] feet of the priests to the dry ground and they returned [the] waters of the Jordan to place their and they went as yesterday three days ago over all banks its.
Zodra nu de priesters, die de ark van Jahweh’s Verbond droegen, uit het midden van de Jordaan waren gekomen, en de voetzolen der priesters het droge hadden bereikt, hernam het water van de Jordaan zijn loop, en trad weer buiten zijn oevers als vroeger.
19 And the people they went up from the Jordan on the ten of the month first and they encamped at Gilgal on [the] edge of [the] east of Jericho.
Op de tiende dag van de eerste maand trok het volk van de Jordaan weg, en sloeg zijn legerplaats te Gilgal op, aan de oostelijke grens van Jericho.
20 And two [plus] ten the stones these which they had taken from the Jordan he set up Joshua at Gilgal.
De twaalf stenen, die men uit de Jordaan had meegenomen, liet Josuë nu te Gilgal oprichten,
21 And he said to [the] people of Israel saying that they will ask! children your tomorrow fathers their saying what? [are] the stones these.
terwijl hij tot de Israëlieten sprak: Als later uw zonen aan hun vaders vragen: "Wat hebben deze stenen te beduiden?"
22 And you will make known to children your saying on the dry ground it passed over Israel the Jordan this.
moet ge uw zonen vertellen: "Droogvoets trok Israël hier over de Jordaan!"
23 That he dried up Yahweh God your [the] waters of the Jordan from before you until had passed over you just as he did Yahweh God your to [the] sea of reed[s] which he dried up from before us until had passed over we.
Want Jahweh, uw God, heeft het water van de Jordaan voor u doen opdrogen, totdat ge er over waart, zoals Jahweh, uw God, met de Rode Zee heeft gedaan, die Hij voor ons heeft drooggelegd, totdat wij er over waren:
24 So as to know all [the] peoples of the earth [the] hand of Yahweh that [is] mighty it so that you may fear Yahweh God your all the days.
opdat alle volken der aarde zouden weten, dat de hand van Jahweh machtig is, en gij Jahweh, uw God, voor altijd zoudt vrezen!
