< John 13 >

1 Before now the feast of the Passover knowing Jesus that (came *N(k)O*) to him hour that He may depart out of world this to the Father, having loved [his] own who [were] in the world to [the] end He loved them.
nistārotsavasya kiñcitkālāt pūrvvaṁ pṛthivyāḥ pituḥ samīpagamanasya samayaḥ sannikarṣobhūd iti jñātvā yīśurāprathamād yeṣu jagatpravāsiṣvātmīyalokeṣa prema karoti sma teṣu śeṣaṁ yāvat prema kṛtavān|
2 And supper (taking place, *N(k)O*) the devil already having put into the heart that he may betray Him (Judas *N(k)O*) [son] of Simon (Iscariot *NK(o)*)
pitā tasya haste sarvvaṁ samarpitavān svayam īśvarasya samīpād āgacchad īśvarasya samīpaṁ yāsyati ca, sarvvāṇyetāni jñātvā rajanyāṁ bhojane sampūrṇe sati,
3 knowing (*k*) (Jesus *K*) that all things (has given *N(k)O*) to Him the Father into the hands, and that from God He came forth and to God He is going,
yadā śaitān taṁ parahasteṣu samarpayituṁ śimonaḥ putrasya īṣkāriyotiyasya yihūdā antaḥkaraṇe kupravṛttiṁ samārpayat,
4 He rises from the supper and lays aside the garments, And having taken a towel He girded Himself.
tadā yīśu rbhojanāsanād utthāya gātravastraṁ mocayitvā gātramārjanavastraṁ gṛhītvā tena svakaṭim abadhnāt,
5 After that He pours water into the basin and He began to wash the feet of the disciples and to wipe [them] with the towel with which He was having girded himself.
paścād ekapātre jalam abhiṣicya śiṣyāṇāṁ pādān prakṣālya tena kaṭibaddhagātramārjanavāsasā mārṣṭuṁ prārabhata|
6 He comes then to Simon Peter; (and *k*) who says to Him (that [question]; *ko*) Lord, You yourself my do wash feet?
tataḥ śimonpitarasya samīpamāgate sa uktavān he prabho bhavān kiṁ mama pādau prakṣālayiṣyati?
7 Answered Jesus and said to him; What I myself do you yourself not know presently, you will know however after these things.
yīśuruditavān ahaṁ yat karomi tat samprati na jānāsi kintu paścāj jñāsyasi|
8 Says to Him Peter; certainly not shall You wash my feet to the age. Answered (*k*) Jesus to him; only unless I shall wash you, not you have part with Me. (aiōn g165)
tataḥ pitaraḥ kathitavān bhavān kadāpi mama pādau na prakṣālayiṣyati| yīśurakathayad yadi tvāṁ na prakṣālaye tarhi mayi tava kopyaṁśo nāsti| (aiōn g165)
9 Says to Him Simon Peter; Lord, not the feet of me only but also the hands and the head.
tadā śimonpitaraḥ kathitavān he prabho tarhi kevalapādau na, mama hastau śiraśca prakṣālayatu|
10 Says to him Jesus; The [one] having bathed himself not has need (only *no*) (except *N(K)O*) the feet to wash, but is clean wholly; and you yourselves clean are but not all.
tato yīśuravadad yo jano dhautastasya sarvvāṅgapariṣkṛtatvāt pādau vinānyāṅgasya prakṣālanāpekṣā nāsti| yūyaṁ pariṣkṛtā iti satyaṁ kintu na sarvve,
11 He knew for the [one who] was betraying Him; on account of this He said (that *no*) Not all clean you are.
yato yo janastaṁ parakareṣu samarpayiṣyati taṁ sa jñātavāna; ataeva yūyaṁ sarvve na pariṣkṛtā imāṁ kathāṁ kathitavān|
12 When therefore He had washed the feet of them and taken the garments of Him and (he reclined *N(k)O*) again, He said to them; Do you know what I have done to you?
itthaṁ yīśusteṣāṁ pādān prakṣālya vastraṁ paridhāyāsane samupaviśya kathitavān ahaṁ yuṣmān prati kiṁ karmmākārṣaṁ jānītha?
13 You yourselves call Me: Teacher and Lord, and rightly you say; I am for.
yūyaṁ māṁ guruṁ prabhuñca vadatha tat satyameva vadatha yatohaṁ saeva bhavāmi|
14 If therefore I myself washed your feet the Lord and the Teacher, also you yourselves ought of one another to wash the feet;
yadyahaṁ prabhu rguruśca san yuṣmākaṁ pādān prakṣālitavān tarhi yuṣmākamapi parasparaṁ pādaprakṣālanam ucitam|
15 A pattern for I gave you, that even as I myself did to you also you yourselves may do.
ahaṁ yuṣmān prati yathā vyavāharaṁ yuṣmān tathā vyavaharttum ekaṁ panthānaṁ darśitavān|
16 Amen Amen I say to you; not is a servant greater than the master of him nor [is] a messenger greater than the [one who] having sent him.
ahaṁ yuṣmānatiyathārthaṁ vadāmi, prabho rdāso na mahān prerakācca prerito na mahān|
17 If these things you know, blessed are you if you shall do them.
imāṁ kathāṁ viditvā yadi tadanusārataḥ karmmāṇi kurutha tarhi yūyaṁ dhanyā bhaviṣyatha|
18 Not about all of you I speak; I myself know (whom *N(k)O*) I chose; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled: The [one] eating (with *k*) (Me *N(k)O*) the bread lifted up against Me myself the heel of him.’

19 From now I am telling you before it comes to pass, so that (you may believe *NK(o)*) when it may happen that I myself am [He].
ahaṁ sa jana ityatra yathā yuṣmākaṁ viśvāso jāyate tadarthaṁ etādṛśaghaṭanāt pūrvvam ahamidānīṁ yuṣmabhyamakathayam|
20 Amen Amen I say to you; the [one] receiving (maybe *N(k)O*) any I shall send, Me myself receives; the [one] now Me myself receiving, receives the [One] having sent Me.
ahaṁ yuṣmānatīva yathārthaṁ vadāmi, mayā preritaṁ janaṁ yo gṛhlāti sa māmeva gṛhlāti yaśca māṁ gṛhlāti sa matprerakaṁ gṛhlāti|
21 These things having said Jesus was troubled in spirit and He testified and said; Amen Amen I say to you that one of you will betray Me.
etāṁ kathāṁ kathayitvā yīśu rduḥkhī san pramāṇaṁ dattvā kathitavān ahaṁ yuṣmānatiyathārthaṁ vadāmi yuṣmākam eko jano māṁ parakareṣu samarpayiṣyati|
22 Were looking (therefore *KO*) upon one another the disciples, being uncertain of whom He is speaking.
tataḥ sa kamuddiśya kathāmetāṁ kathitavān ityatra sandigdhāḥ śiṣyāḥ parasparaṁ mukhamālokayituṁ prārabhanta|
23 There was (now *k*) reclining one (of *no*) the disciples of Him in the bosom of Jesus whom was loving Jesus;
tasmin samaye yīśu ryasmin aprīyata sa śiṣyastasya vakṣaḥsthalam avālambata|
24 Motions therefore to him Simon Peter (and says to him *o*) (to ask *NK(o)*) who maybe (it would be *NK(o)*) about whom He is speaking.
śimonpitarastaṁ saṅketenāvadat, ayaṁ kamuddiśya kathāmetām kathayatīti pṛccha|
25 (Having leaned then *N(k)O*) he (thus *NO*) on the breast of Jesus he says to Him; Lord, who is it?
tadā sa yīśo rvakṣaḥsthalam avalambya pṛṣṭhavān, he prabho sa janaḥ kaḥ?
26 Answers (therefore *O*) Jesus; He it is to whom I myself (will dip *N(k)O*) the morsel (and *no*) (will give *N(k)O*) (to him. *no*) (And *k*) (having dipped *N(k)O*) (then *NO*) the morsel (He takes [it] and *NO*) gives [it] to Judas [son] of Simon (Iscariot. *N(k)O*)
tato yīśuḥ pratyavadad ekakhaṇḍaṁ pūpaṁ majjayitvā yasmai dāsyāmi saeva saḥ; paścāt pūpakhaṇḍamekaṁ majjayitvā śimonaḥ putrāya īṣkariyotīyāya yihūdai dattavān|
27 And after the morsel, then entered into him Satan. Says therefore to him Jesus; What you enact, do enact quicker.
tasmin datte sati śaitān tamāśrayat; tadā yīśustam avadat tvaṁ yat kariṣyasi tat kṣipraṁ kuru|
28 This now no [one] knew of those reclining to what He spoke to him.
kintu sa yenāśayena tāṁ kathāmakathāyat tam upaviṣṭalokānāṁ kopi nābudhyata;
29 Some for were thinking, since the money bag had (*k*) Judas, for is saying to him Jesus; do buy what things need [of] we have for the feast, or to the poor that something he may give.

30 Having received therefore the morsel he went out immediately; it was now night.
tadā pūpakhaṇḍagrahaṇāt paraṁ sa tūrṇaṁ bahiragacchat; rātriśca samupasyitā|
31 When therefore he had gone out, says (*k*) Jesus; Now has been glorified the Son of Man, and God has been glorified in Him,
yihūde bahirgate yīśurakathayad idānīṁ mānavasutasya mahimā prakāśate teneśvarasyāpi mahimā prakāśate|
32 If God is glorified in Him also God will glorify Him in (Him[self] *N(k)O*) and immediately will glorify Him.
yadi teneśvarasya mahimā prakāśate tarhīśvaropi svena tasya mahimānaṁ prakāśayiṣyati tūrṇameva prakāśayiṣyati|
33 Little children, yet a little while with you I am. You will seek Me, and even as I said to the Jews that Where I myself go you yourselves not are able to come, also to you I say now.
he vatsā ahaṁ yuṣmābhiḥ sārddhaṁ kiñcitkālamātram āse, tataḥ paraṁ māṁ mṛgayiṣyadhve kintvahaṁ yatsthānaṁ yāmi tatsthānaṁ yūyaṁ gantuṁ na śakṣyatha, yāmimāṁ kathāṁ yihūdīyebhyaḥ kathitavān tathādhunā yuṣmabhyamapi kathayāmi|
34 A commandment new I give to you that you may love one another, even as I have loved you so also you yourselves may love one another.

35 By this will know all that to Me disciples you are, if love you shall have among one another.

36 Says to Him Simon Peter; Lord, where go You? Answered to him (*k*) Jesus; Where I go not you are able Me now to follow; you will follow however afterward (to me. *k*)

37 Says to Him Peter; Lord, because of why not am I able You (to follow *NK(o)*) presently? The life of mine for You I will lay down.
tadā pitaraḥ pratyuditavān, he prabho sāmprataṁ kuto hetostava paścād gantuṁ na śaknomi? tvadarthaṁ prāṇān dātuṁ śaknomi|
38 (answers *N(k)O*) (to him *k*) Jesus; The life of you for Me will you lay down? Amen Amen I say to you; certainly not [the] rooster (may crow *N(k)O*) until that (you will deny *N(k)O*) Me three times.
