Job 31
1 A covenant I made to eyes my and what? will I look carefully on a virgin.
Med augo hev eg gjort ei pakt; eg skal’kje skygna etter møy.
2 And what? - [is] [the] portion of God above and [the] inheritance of [the] Almighty from high places.
Kva gav meg elles Gud der uppe? Kva arv gav Allvald frå det høge?
3 ¿ Not [does] calamity [belong] to an evil-doer and misfortune to [those who] do wickedness.
Kjem ikkje udådsmann i naud? Og illgjersmenn i ulukka?
4 ¿ Not he does he see ways my and all steps my does he count?
Ser ikkje han på mine vegar? Tel ikkje han kvart stig eg gjeng?
5 If I have walked with falsehood and it has made haste to deceit foot my.
Dersom eg fram med fals hev fare, og foten sprunge etter svik
6 Let him weigh me in balances of righteousness and let him acknowledge God integrity my.
- Gud vege meg på rettferds vegt, so han kann sjå eg skuldlaus er! -
7 If it turned aside step my from the way and after eyes my it has gone heart my and to hands my it has stuck a blemish.
Veik mine stig frå vegen av, hev hjarta etter augo gjenge, var det ein flekk på mine hender,
8 Let me sow and another let him eat and produce my let them be rooted up.
so gjev ein annan et mitt såd, og riv mi planting upp med rot!
9 If it has been deceived heart my on a woman and at [the] doorway of neighbor my I have lain in wait.
Let eg min hug av kvinna dåra, sneik eg til grannens dør meg fram,
10 Let her grind for another wife my and over her let them bow down! others.
so lat mitt viv åt andre mala, og andre yver ho seg bøygje!
11 For (that *Q(K)*) [is] wickedness (and that *Q(k)*) [is] iniquity judges.
For dette er ei skjemdarferd, eit brot som dom og straff fortener,
12 For [is] a fire that [which] to Abaddon it will devour and all produce my it will root up.
ein eld som eta vil til avgrunns og øydeleggja all mi eiga.
13 If I rejected [the] cause of male servant my and female servant my in complaint their with me.
Vanvyrd’ eg retten åt min træl og trælkvinna i trætta med deim?
14 And what? will I do if he will arise God and if he will visit what? will I respond to him.
- Kva gjord’ eg då, når Gud reis upp? Kva svara eg, når han meg klaga?
15 ¿ Not in the belly [the one who] made me did he make him and did prepare us? he in the womb one.
Dei er som meg i morsliv skapte; ein forma oss i moderfang -
16 If I withheld any of [the] desire of poor [people] and [the] eyes of a widow I caused to fail.
Um eg sagde nei når arming bad, og let enkja gråtande gå burt,
17 And I may eat morsel of bread my to alone me and not he ate a fatherless one some of it.
hev eg mitt brød åleine ete, so farlaus inkje fekk ein bit,
18 For since youth my he grew up with me like a father and from [the] womb of mother my I guided her.
- nei, far for han eg var frå yngdi, frå morsliv var eg hennar førar -
19 If I saw [one who] was perishing because not clothing and not covering [belonged] to the needy [person].
Såg eg ein stakar utan klæde, ein fatig utan yverplagg,
20 If not they blessed me (loins his *Q(K)*) and from [the] fleece of lambs my he warmed himself.
og so hans lender ei meg signa, og ei mi saueull han vermde,
21 If I brandished on a fatherless one hand my for I saw in the gate help my.
hev eg mot farlaus handi lyft, av di eg medhald fekk i retten:
22 Shoulder my from its shoulder let it fall and arm my from arm its let it be broken.
Let herdi mi or led då losna, og armen brotna frå sitt bein!
23 For [was] a fear to me calamity of God and from majesty his not I am able.
For eg var ovleg rædd Guds straff, eg magtlaus stod framfor hans velde.
24 If I have made gold confidence my and to pure gold I have said security my.
Um eg mi lit til gullet sette, og voni til det fine gull,
25 If I rejoiced for [was] great wealth my and for much it had found hand my.
Gledde eg meg ved auka rikdom, og alt eg vann meg med mi hand,
26 If I saw a light that it shone and [the] moon splendid [was] going.
såg eg på ljoset når det stråla, på månen der han skreid i glans,
27 And it was gullible in secrecy heart my and it kissed hand my mouth my.
vart hjarta mitt i løyndom dåra, so kyss på hand til deim eg sende,
28 Also that [is] iniquity calling for judgment for I denied God above.
so var det og straffande brot, då neitta eg min Gud der uppe.
29 If I rejoiced in [the] disaster of [one who] hated me and I excited myself if it had found him calamity.
Hev eg meg gledt ved uvens uferd, og jubla når han kom i skade,
30 And not I have permitted to sin palate my by asking for by a curse life his.
- men eg let ikkje munnen synda og banna honom ifrå livet -
31 If not they have said [the] men of tent my who? will he give from meat his not [one who] is satisfied.
hev ei mitt husfolk stendigt sagt: «Kven gjekk vel svolten frå hans bord?»
32 In the street not he passed [the] night a sojourner doors my to the path I opened.
- Eg let’kje framand natta ute; for ferdamann eg opna døri -
33 If I have concealed like Adam transgressions my by hiding in bosom my iniquity my.
hev eg som Adam dult mi synd, og løynt mi misgjerd i min barm,
34 For I feared - a multitude great and [the] contempt of clans it caused to be dismayed me and I was silent not I went outside [the] door.
di eg var rædd den store hop og ottast spott frå ættefrendar, so stilt eg heldt meg innum dører?
35 Who? will he give [will belong] to me - [one who] listens to me here! mark my [the] Almighty let him answer me and a document [which] he had written [the] person of case my.
Å, vilde nokon høyra på meg! Sjå her er underskrifti mi, lat berre Allvald svara meg! Fekk eg den skrift min motpart skreiv,

den skulde eg på oksli bera og binda på meg som ein krans

Dersom min åker klagar meg, og um plogforerne lyt gråta,

åt eg hans grøda ubetalt, tok livet eg av eigarmannen:
40 In place of wheat - let it come forth thorn[s] and in place of barley foul weed[s] they are finished [the] words of Job.
