Genesis 37
1 And he dwelt Jacob in [the] land of [the] sojournings of father his in [the] land of Canaan.
Jakob bleef in het land Kanaän wonen, waar ook zijn vader had vertoefd.
2 These - [are] [the] accounts of Jacob Joseph [was] a son of seven-teen year[s] he was shepherding with brothers his the flock and he [was] a youth with [the] sons of Bilhah and with [the] sons of Zilpah [the] wives of father his and he brought Joseph report their bad to father their.
En dit is de familiegeschiedenis van Jakob: Toen Josef zeventien jaar oud en dus nog een knaap was, en hij met zijn broers, met de zonen van Bilha en de zonen van Zilpa, de vrouwen van zijn vader, de kudde weidde, bracht hij de kwade geruchten, die over hen liepen, aan hun vader over.
3 And Israel he loved Joseph more than all sons his for [was] a son of old age he for him and he made for him a long garment of palms and soles.
Ook hield Israël meer van Josef dan van zijn andere zonen, omdat hij hem nog op zijn oude dag geboren was; daarom liet hij hem een kleurig gewaad maken.
4 And they saw brothers his that him he loved father their more than all brothers his and they hated him and not they were able to speak to him to welfare.
Toen zijn broeders dus bemerkten, dat hun vader hem meer beminde dan al zijn broers, begonnen zij hem te haten, en gunden hem geen vriendelijk woord meer.
5 And he dreamed Joseph a dream and he told [it] to brothers his and they increased again to hate him.
Bovendien had Josef eens een droom, die hij aan zijn broers vertelde, met het gevolg, dat zij hem nog meer gingen haten.
6 And he said to them hear please the dream this which I have dreamed.
Hij sprak tot hen: Luistert eens naar de droom, die ik heb gehad.
7 And there! we [were] binding sheaves in [the] middle of the field and there! it arose sheaf my and also it stood upright and there! they gathered round sheaves your and they bowed down to sheaf my.
Ziet, wij waren op het veld aan het schoven binden, toen mijn schoof overeind rees en recht bleef staan, terwijl uw schoven zich er omheen plaatsten, en voor de mijne begonnen te buigen.
8 And they said to him brothers his ¿ really will you reign over us or? certainly will you rule over us and they increased again to hate him on dreams his and on words his.
Maar zijn broers zeiden tot hem: Wilt ge soms koning over ons worden, of over ons heersen? En ze haatten hem nog meer om die droom, die hij had verhaald.
9 And he dreamed again a dream another and he recounted it to brothers his and he said here! I have dreamed a dream again and there! the sun and the moon and one [plus] ten stars [were] bowing down to me.
Later had hij nog een andere droom, die hij eveneens aan zijn broers vertelde. Hij sprak: Ik heb een nieuwe droom gehad. Zie, de zon, de maan en elf sterren bogen zich voor mij neer.
10 And he recounted [it] to father his and to brothers his and he rebuked him father his and he said to him what? [is] the dream this which you have dreamed ¿ really will we come I and mother your and brothers your to bow down to you [the] ground towards.
Maar toen hij dit aan zijn vader en zijn broers vertelde, berispte hem zijn vader en zei: Wat moet dat met die droom, die ge gehad hebt; moeten ik, uw moeder en broers ons soms voor u ter aarde komen buigen?
11 And they were jealous of him brothers his and father his he kept the matter.
Maar terwijl zijn broers nijdig op hem bleven, prentte zijn vader dat verhaal in zijn geheugen.
12 And they went brothers his to pasture [the] flock of father their at Shechem.
Nu gebeurde het eens, dat zijn broers naar Sikem waren gegaan, om de kudden van hun vader te weiden.
13 And he said Israel to Joseph ¿ not [are] brothers your pasturing at Shechem come! and I will send you to them and he said to him here [am] I.
Toen sprak Israël tot Josef: De broers zijn in Sikem de kudden aan het weiden; ik wilde u er wel eens heen zenden. Hij antwoordde: Heel goed!
14 And he said to him go please see [the] welfare of brothers your and [the] welfare of the flock and bring to me word and he sent him from [the] valley of Hebron and he came Shechem towards.
Hij hernam: Ga dan eens zien, of alles in orde is met uw broers en ook met het vee, en kom het mij dan vertellen. Zo zond hij hem uit de vallei van Hebron op pad. Toen hij bij Sikem was gekomen,
15 And he found him a man and there! [he was] wandering in the open country and he asked him the man saying what? are you seeking.
en daar in de velden ronddoolde, ontmoette hem iemand, die hem vroeg, wat hij zocht.
16 And he said brothers my I [am] seeking tell! please to me where? [are] they pasturing.
Hij antwoordde: Ik ben op zoek naar mijn broers; kunt ge me zeggen, waar zij hun kudde weiden?
17 And he said the man they have departed from here for I heard [them] saying let us go Dothan towards and he went Joseph after brothers his and he found them at Dothan.
De man gaf ten antwoord: Zij zijn van hier weg; want ik heb ze horen zeggen, dat ze naar Dotan wilden gaan. Josef ging dus zijn broers achterna, en trof hen in Dotan.
18 And they saw him from a distance and just before he drew near to them and they dealt deceptively with him to kill him.
Zij zagen hem al uit de verte. En eer hij hen nog had bereikt, hadden ze al het plan beraamd, hem te doden.
19 And they said each to brother his there! [the] master of dreams this [is] coming.
Ze zeiden tot elkander: Zie, daar komt de dromer aan!
20 And now - come and let us kill him and let us throw him in one of the pits and we will say an animal wild it has eaten him and we may see what? will be dreams his.
Vooruit nu, laten we hem vermoorden, in een van de putten gooien, en zeggen, dat een wild beest hem heeft verslonden; dan zullen we eens zien, wat er van zijn dromen terecht komt.
21 And he heard Reuben and he rescued him from hand their and he said not let us strike him life.
Toen Ruben dit hoorde, wilde hij hem uit hun handen redden. Daarom zei hij: We moeten hem niet om het leven brengen.
22 And he said to them - Reuben may not you shed blood throw him into the pit this which [is] in the wilderness and a hand may not you stretch out on him so as to rescue him from hand their to restore him to father his.
En Ruben vervolgde: Ge moet geen bloed vergieten; werpt hem liever in die put daar, in de woestijn, maar raakt hem niet aan. Zo wilde hij hem aan hun handen onttrekken, om hem naar zijn vader terug te brengen.
23 And it was just when he came Joseph to brothers his and they stripped Joseph long garment his [the] long garment of the palms and soles which [was] on him.
Toen Josef dan bij zijn broers was gekomen, trokken zij hem het veelkleurig kleed uit, dat hij aanhad,
24 And they took him and they threw him the pit towards and the pit [was] empty there not in it [was] water.
grepen hem vast, en wierpen hem in de put. De put was leeg, en er stond geen water in.
25 And they sat down to eat bread and they lifted up eyes their and they saw and there! a caravan of Ishmaelites [was] coming from Gilead and camels their [were] carrying spice and balm and myrrh traveling to take [them] down Egypt towards.
Terwijl ze daarna zaten te eten, keken ze op, en bemerkten een karavaan van Jisjmaëlieten, die van Gilad kwam; hun kamelen waren belast met gom, balsem en hars, en waren op weg naar Egypte.
26 And he said Judah to brothers his what? [is the] profit if we will kill brother our and we will conceal blood his.
Nu zei Juda tot zijn broers: Wat hebben we er aan, onzen broer te vermoorden en zijn bloed te bedekken?
27 Come and let us sell him to the Ishmaelites and hand our may not it be on him for [is] brother our flesh our he and they listened brothers his.
Laten we hem liever aan de Jisjmaëlieten verkopen en niet onze handen aan hem slaan; want hij is toch onze broer en ons eigen vlees. Zijn broers stemden er in toe.
28 And they passed by men Midianite[s] traders and they drew and they brought up Joseph from the pit and they sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty silver and they brought Joseph Egypt towards.
En toen de midjanietische kooplieden voorbijkwamen, trokken zij Josef uit de put omhoog, en verkochten hem voor twintig zilverstukken aan de Jisjmaëlieten, die Josef naar Egypte voerden.
29 And he returned Reuben to the pit and there! not Joseph [was] in the pit and he tore clothes his.
Toen Ruben weer naar de put kwam, maar Josef niet meer in de put was, scheurde hij zijn kleren.
30 And he returned to brothers his and he said the boy not [is] he and I where? [am] I going.
Hij liep terug naar zijn broers, en riep: De jongen is weg, wat moet ik nu gaan beginnen!
31 And they took [the] long garment of Joseph and they slaughtered a male goat of goats and they dipped the long garment in the blood.
Nu namen zij het kleed van Josef, slachtten een geitebokje, en doopten het kleed in het bloed.
32 And they sent [the] long garment of the palms and soles and they brought [it] to father their and they said this we have found investigate please ¿ [the] long garment of son your [is] it or? not.
Ze stuurden het kleurige kleed naar hun vader, en lieten hem zeggen: Dit hebben we gevonden; zie eens, of dit het kleed van uw zoon is, of niet?
33 And he recognized it and he said [it is] [the] long garment of son my an animal wild it has eaten him certainly he has been torn to pieces Joseph.
Hij herkende het en zei: Het is het kleed van mijn zoon; een wild beest heeft hem verslonden; ach, Josef is in stukken gescheurd!
34 And he tore Jacob clothes his and he put sackcloth on loins his and he mourned on son his days many.
En Jakob scheurde zijn kleren, deed een zak om zijn lenden, en treurde lange tijd om zijn zoon.
35 And they arose all sons his and all daughters his to comfort him and he refused to be comforted and he said that I will go down to son my mourning Sheol towards and he wept for him father his. (Sheol h7585)
Al zijn zonen en dochters kwamen hem troosten; maar hij wilde geen troost. Want hij sprak: Treurend daal ik naar mijn zoon in het dodenrijk af. Zo bleef zijn vader om hem wenen. (Sheol h7585)
36 (And the Medanites *L(E)*) they sold him into Egypt to Potiphar an official of Pharaoh [the] commander of the bodyguards.
Intussen hadden de Midjanieten Josef in Egypte verkocht aan Potifar, een hoveling van Farao, en overste van de lijfwacht.
